Well, turning from standstill on grippy surface makes your clutch (or belt) burn easily. I recommend turning when it’s already moving and only for small curves at one time, then it works better. The turning radius is not the best then, but it kinda works. I also often use the high/low transfercase and putting it on low for sharp turns or turns from standstill, so the clutch / belt lives longer. Also you can remove some of its wheels, so it has only two than four wheels on one side, so less grip means better turning. But you have to be carefull, because you can‘t remove any of the wheels you like, because if you remove one specific wheel (i don‘t know which one anymore, you have to try yourself) you may have no drive. I think it‘s a differential thing or bug, but i don‘t know. Also the problem of difficult turning is how the differential works. Because when braking one side to standstill, the other side would turn (i think) twice as fast, as it normally would, when the tire on left and right turn freely. So the engine and drivetrain needs more power to turn the wheel (even when not to overcome friction and brakeforce from the other side). If some of you have lego technic or something like that, you can try it for yourself: built a little setup with a motor, which drives a open differential coupled to a tire on each side and watch the speed of both tires. The left tire should spin as fast as the right tire. Then try to stop one of the tires (of course without hurting yourself), then you will see a increase in speed on the tire, which turns freely even without changing the speed of the Motor or changing gears. But speeding up one side by braking the other means less torque output on the wheel, which turns freely, and that is the problem why the wydra can‘t turn well on grippy surfaces.

I think the Wydra would profit from a cross-drive steering transmission like those found on tanks and some tracked tractors. It would be a bit unrealistic on such a small vehicle, but provide smooth steering and constant power to all wheels. Basically instead of locking up the wheels at one side it subtracts an amount of rpm one one side and adds the same amount of rpm on the other side
@FerralVideoАй бұрын
There's actually a mod for that. A torque-vectoring differential. It also adds a torque converter.

Honestly I’m surprised people where complaining about it. In my limited time of using it, I knew it was to handle off-road/muddy terrain. I didnt think that the 8x8 drive and tank steering wasn’t a dead giveaway. Because of that I have never ran into any issues and its incredibly fun driving that thing in muddy marshlands as a trailblazer. Sad to see how people run to blame a machine then look into what it’s actually designed for.

That's actually not how a clutch in a CVT works, CVT's use centrifugal clutches that have weirdly shaped arms, connected to spring that swing outwards from g-forces of the thing spinning, which at high enough revs, pushes against the wall causing the thing to turn. It's not related to the belt in this case.
@FerralVideoАй бұрын

the Wydra is actually my guilty pleasure when it comes to exploring maps in BeamNG. Fairly durable and can conquer most terrain and its not crazy fast to where im afraid to drive it!
@hawkstable8889Ай бұрын
Counterpoint. Why not just design it in a way that wide radius turns aren't possible if it causes the brakes to fade so fast? Or better yet it could use a clutch-braking system like some tanks where wide radius turns simply cut power to the inside wheels and full steering lock causes the brakes to kick in to fully lock the wheels. The best, though most complicated solution would be to use a double differential or hydrostatic system, allowing regenerative steering. This means that the inside wheels slow down and the outside wheels speed up to achieve a wide radius turn without losing speed. In addition these systems would allow neutral steering, where the wheels turn in opposite directions to turn in place.

It’s hard to make all those linkages water proof. Obviously that doesn’t matter much in a game but from a realism standpoint you’re better off with as few holes as possible in an amphibious vehicle

The true measure of a car's reliability is its ability to tolerate occasional improper use and lax maintenance. Instead, these fail if you go even slightly outside the scope of their intended use. Even conventional trucks can handle being driven on pavement with 4WD engaged for short distances without shredding the transfer case. Personally, I still get clutch temperature warnings when driving the Wydra in a straight line offroad, so it can't even get that right.

Wigeon is one of my favorite vehicles! The Mantis is HILARIOUSLY zippy and grippy, and with a few tweaks to work around an aerodynamics bug even the base models are solid fun - and get absurd fuel economy too. In my "bug-fixed" variant I still get 30MPGs at full whack in 5th, and over 60 doing 60. The bug: The tailgate and rear glass assembly poses a MASSIVE aerodynamic drag, and a very slight amount of downforce. Removing the glass alone does not fix it. The fix: Remove the entire "tailgate" assembly group. Put the Naomi Adjustable Wing (default angle works great on the "base" tier car) back on to cover the slight amount of downforce and settle the car back down. It'll be VERY frisky if you leave it off. With the vastly reduced drag, you can swap the trans for a five speed and the rear diff for the tallest ratio available. It'll STILL redline doing over 90 on flat ground on a stock engine. (Been a while since I did this test, forgot if you need the sport exhaust or if the base exhaust will do the trick.)
