Is it a collaborative process of jamming and finding a different sound, or does Mr. Barot have complete liberty to do whatever he chooses and present it to ARR in its finished form?

It is sometimes so fascinating and surprising at the same time that Richa Sharma sang for Rahman since more than 25 years almost like other veteran singers from South which is not a normal feat these days. And the icing on the cake was she recently sang for him in his latest hit album Chamkila which is yet another chartbuster! This episode has given some lesser known facts about her for example her singing only the songs that she love and not just every song that comes her way… This is yet another quality of her that matches some of our veteran playback singers such as Lata Mangeshkar and SPB. Also the fact that finally her voice which was initially replaced for a male singer in Mangal Pandey song was redubbed in her voice was the best collective decision at that time. Again another lesser known fact is that she sang the Tamil version of Chhalka song even though it’s an Alap which I am not sure if it is in Telugu. However the Mukhda humming in Hindi was actually done by Malgadi Subha in Tamil and Telugu versions. Nonetheless, glad to know that she is a part of a magical song which has the nostalgic vibes even today. Though Saathiya quite didn’tmatch to the original in Telugu and Tamil, the visual part by Shaad Ali is just looks like as if AI has given retouch to the original Mani Ratnam classic. Everyone knows how pure, simple and magical each and every frame came from Mani Ratnam’s originally shot classic of AlaiPayuthey.
