Why Julian Nagelsmann's Germany are the FAVOURITES for Euro 2024...(or if not...why?)

Julian Nagelsmann has led his Germany team to 2 wins out of 2 to kick start the 2024 European Championships, but what is more impressive is the level of Germany's tactical game model, something I will tackle in today's video, which has 4 parts:
1. Germany's fluid rotations in their 3-1-5-1 shape
2. Nagelsmann's profiling of individuals like Toni Kroos, Jamal Musiala, Ilkay Gundogan, Kai Havertz, Joshua Kimmich, and Florian Wirtz, and the role of the Raumdeuter.
3. His counter press out-of-possession
4. Germany's vulnerabilities and how to stop Nagelsmann's tactical blueprint.
After beating Hungary 2-0, and Scotland 5-1, many have the Germans as favourites, alongside the likes of Spain, Italy, France, England, Portugal, Belgium, and the Netherlands. But is this fair? Today, we find out.
Formerly the manager of Bayern Munchen, and winning the Bundesliga with the German giants, Nagelsmann has moved away to the German national team and has looked to have refined my tactical ideas, as well as finding and creating a better environment to work. Will Nageslmann rotate in Germany's final group stage game vs Switzerland? Giving that they have already qualified. Will he rotate players like Manuel Neuer, Robert Andrich, Jonathan Tah, Mittelstadt, for players like Nico Fullkrug, Emre Can, Leroy Sana, Pascal Grob, Nico Schlotterbech, Thomas Muller and more.
They are certainly the form side, with teams like England under performing in their opening games, drawing 1-1 against Denmark and narrowly beating Serbia 1-0. Gareth Southgate has had to face key questions about the roles of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka, and Jude Bellingham.
For Germany, there are no such questions as of yet, with Nagelsmann using his players well. For example, deploying Joshua Kimmich in the same role Thomas Tuchel used him in as Bayern Munich knocked Mikel Arteta's Arsenal out of the Champions League earlier in the year.
This channel covers the entirety of Euro 2024, providing in-depth tactical analysis of the tactics of every nation, as well as covering the Premier League. This includes, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, Manchester United and Eric ten Hag, Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, Spurs or Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, Aston Villa and Unai Emery, and Liverpool and Arne Slot.
I will turn my attention back to Arsenal specifically in the coming days, as we look at how Arteta evolves the team to win the 2024/24 Premier League title, including the roles of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli, Jurrien Timber, David Raya, and many more! Can the Gunners do it?

The biggest benefit of Nagelsmann’s ability to play a high level system is how perfectly his squad building was done. If you look at that starting 11, every single player plays some variation of this system at club level. Every single player. Even the bench players are familiar with it at squad level. So when it comes time to coach, he’s only tweaking minor aspects. Its the exact opposite of what Southgate did for England where the players come various systems at club level, & the system he’s trying to use is different still.

True words. Nagelsmann’s ingame-coaching has to be mentioned as well. Over the last years Germany was pretty tortured with absurd decisions Löw has made. At present, This now feels like a breath of fresh air. Nagelsmann is well prepared and has a basic plan, Löw and Flick never had.

wow I did not expect such a professional video by a 10 k channel. subbed mate. Btw outside of the tactical stuff as a German, I have to say that our greatest strength is the composition of the team. There is no Goretzka, Gnabry, Hummels or anything similar on the bench. No players who assume that they are the main character and absolutely have to play. We have many hungry players who have had great seasons with their teams such as Andrich, Tah, Führich, Mittelstädt, Undav, Anton, Koch, and Beier. I mean, for example, Mittelstädt moved from relegated Hertha BSC Berlin to VfB Stuttgart at the end of last season for 500k euros and is now worth 17 million euros, 27 years old and probably never thought he would play even one minute for the national team. These players, just being there is a dream come true. Nagelsmann had a conversation with each individual player in advance about their respective roles in the team and so there will be no problem with a bad mood. Everyone knows exactly what they are needed for. Not like in England where Cole Palmer is probably massively disappointed.

fun fact, nagelsmann had a long talk with the german basketball national team coach (Gordon Herbert), which built an incredibly successful team too. the basketball coach had also talks with every player beforehand because he wanted players to commit for a longer time, to play with the same team for the three major competitions (olympics, world championship and eurobasket it was i think) and in some interview nagelsmann said that he took some inspiration from him (not remembering if nagelsmann elaborated what kind of inspiration though)

Good work, but you can certainly add Wirtz and Sane as great 1v1 players. Aside from pressing our high defensive line (like e.g. Spain would), it's also proven difficult for us when there is no press, but all receivers are closely marked. Nagelsmann is not a fan of "bunker break" tactics and can rely on jogo bonito for too long, as you have seen from his late sub of Füllkrug and keeping an ineffective Havertz against Switzerland. I think Spain will defeat us and snatch the win of this Euro, they have superb pressing, astounding accuracy and impressive pace.

Well these newcomer's names are hard. xD But Jokes aside when was the last time a player way able to successfully press Kroos - I think you just give him more space to play in that way. The squad has the players to go for long balls too. You'd really need to mark him to get him out of the game but that doesn't make to much sense if he drops to the last line.

Yes, we can win, so i wouldn't be surprised if we did, but let's not get carried away or put unnecessary pressure on ourselves, even when we are playing at home.. The game against Switzerland revealed weaknesses both in offense and defense. Nagelsmann took quite some risks in the defense, and I did not like the position of some midfield players. Both Mittelstädt and Kimmich were in trouble, Rüdiger and Tah had to move away from the center. The 1:0 reminds me off the bad performances in the last years. Tah was in a position where he could not do anything against the shot that was going to happen. In the offense, Wirtz and Musiala had to find out, that one good pass is not sufficient. A lot of situations which had potential, a lot of shots were taken. But it sometimes seemed like lack of conviction.

harvey do you think arsenal made a mistake in signing declan rice, he cant seem to pass forward well enough, a limited passer of the ball that is why arteta rmoved him from the 6 role, do u think caicedo is a better DM than rice and should we have signed him?

To help out with the German pronunciation: The name Kroos does not sound like Cruise at all, the double o ist just a long o.😉

harvey am a city fan, dont you think arteta should have signed caicedo instead of rice as your DM, declan rice is limited to be a dm and caicedo is miles better, he gives you those line breaking passes?

Thanks so much. Really appreciate the comment. Just my eyes mate! And I listen and take it everything I read or hear. Then come up with my own framework off the back of that. For example, the first 10 mins are gold dust. They give you the platform for the rest of the game before the chaos ensues.

Thank you for the correct spelling of the names. Except Mittelstädt. The ä has to be spoken like the a in English. Like Mittle Statt.

I think you're over-analyzing this. Germany had a goal difference of 4 in the first match. It already went down to 2 in the second match. The trend is clear: They'll play a draw against Swiss which will allow them to enter the knockout phase but they'll be out of luck from then on out. They'll lose in the round of sixteen 0-2 and will be kicked ouf of the final with a whopping 1-9. It's quite obvious that Germany should've replaced Nagelsmann after the first match with a coach capable of delivering a more stable result. If Southgate wasn't otherwise occupied he might have been perfect imho.

I am German but I do not believe that Germany will win it in the end. A tournament team has to start slowly and to grow game by game. Germany and Spain did it the other way around.....and the will meet in the quarter final. Portugal, Italy, France and England, among them will be the champ.
@harveygration

Hi Andre! I’m not saying Germany WILL win the tournament. But from a tactical POV, they have been my favourite team to watch on the ball thus far. Tactically, Spain, Italy, Austria, and Belgium are also there. But it doesn’t mean they will win!

Haha bro, italy and Portugal are not that good right now, mark my words, you will see the german team is always about teamwork and teamplay that is what makes us special, the portuguese players are to egoistic, you will see what that difference can make, mark it❤
