I used to be eager to try sky diving, then I was at a local schools fete back in '94, some mates had their Sprint Cars on display there for the fete, was chatting away with them on the oval, when suddenly everyone at the fete came onto the oval and started gathering in a big circle... someone on a P.A. announced that some sky divers were going to be dropping into the fete, In the sky a plane flew over and a few sky divers jumped out, We were front row of the crowd. Anyways 1st one came down and landed, then the second one landed, then the last one was coming on in, I don't know what he did wrong, but when he was probably 10-15m of the ground the chute kind of collapsed on one side,he was sling shotted onto the ground right in front of us, no more then 10-15m metres from me, The sound of the impact and the way he "bounced" off the ground has never left me. Everyone the just went silent, then a second later came the scream of his wife/partner as she went running towards him... He was not moving. His legs were mangled above his head and his feet were point off at angles that were not the angles that hes feet should have been. It was truly a horrific sight, at that moment I decided there was no way in hell I would ever sky dive. He survived I believe, The newspaper the next day had small article mentioning it, but only stated he suffered 2 broken legs. I know he must have had other injuries, there is no way he did have a massive concussion, and 2 broken legs weren't just any ordinarily broken legs, they were mangled above his head. I am sure he would have had a very long road of recovery and never been properly recovered, no doctor could have ever got his legs to be "right" after that, he was mangled, each leg had multiple complete breaks in them 100% for sure. Even now 30 years on I am having flash backs of the sound of the impact, the way he bounced of the ground, his wife scream and can picture his mangled legs above his head, and his feet pointing in the weirdest directions... Needless to say I have never for a second been interested in partaking in skydiving ever since and I complete respect Floppers fear and resolute refusal to even consider it... If Paulie had witnessed it, I doubt he would have ever had balls enough to give sky diving a go either.

Wouldnt do it either. 2019 here in Sweden a plane with 9 jumpers got a malfunction and everyone got parachutes on, trained jumpers. I’ve gone skydiving and it isn’t that scary. It’s quite a thrill especially the first time going tandem as you can just enjoy the experience and not have to worry about the actual pulling the chute or anything.
