I've found that starting out, doing freelance work is far easier than trying to get a permanent role as a junior dev. Being a freelancer you are the expert. I just signed up to up work filled out my profile well and then just applied to everything I thought I could do.

That day i have seen a job post 10+ years experience in node js ... but node js was found in 2015 which make it less than 10 years uptill now

I wasted 6 years of my life developing carpal in tutorial hell because I thought you had to check every item on the job description thanks to a mix of imposter syndrome and recruiters going radio silence on you if you didn't get the interview.

I don't even pay attention to the "required experience" section of job descriptions. I just look at what the job entails, where it is and the salary range. If I feel like it fits what I want to be doing, where and for the right salary, I'll apply, even if I "don't qualify" based on their listed experience.

The job description is more than the wishlist. Indeed, monster, zip recruiter etc. have algorithms that automatically reject applications if the numbers are too small. I’m using an American perspective but I think it’s similar worldwide

80% of job requirements? If I have to follow this I wouldn't apply for any job. My actual skills are a lot less of the job requirements for any Developer job offer that I see on the market. I'm looking for a front end position for more than a year but I'm still struggling with JavaScript. I have a portfolio website that was also featured during a Scrimba streaming. But my js it's too poor and I have no knowledge of react that it's mandatory for a front end developer. The point is that company are asking even more languages like python or PHP even for a front end position. Company are asking really too much and a lot of years of experience. Sometimes I feel will be impossible to find an opportunity

Keep learning mate, don't give up. Just be persistent. When I started I thought I'd never understand JS, but I sat in the computer hours wrapping my head around the concepts that I didn't understand. Now the same is happening with React, but I know that if I just keep practicing and putting the work, I will learn it! Specially if you follow scrimba's path, since it's so organized and easy to go back to the modules where you feel you are not 100%. Hope it helps!. We are all gona make it!

OMG....yea, I think JS has reduced me to a crying little baby....LOL Gods its hard, I've had to redo the first JS module 3x just to say "I sorta" understand it (which I don't).......just gotta keep going...and hopefully one day land a job.....

You need to keep going 💪! There is a chance you're just not ready yet. If that is true, don't worry, your time will come. Maybe you are ready but the job ads are just so unrealistic. That really sucks. If you're applying and not hearing back, knowing what to do or change can feel overwhelming. Tell me a bit more about your situation and hopefully I can offer some good advice.

@@b.c.d.9543 It definitely takes time. It's a shame so many bootcamps, etc. claim you can become a developer in 6, 9, 12 weeks. That's very optimistic, and we're all different. Remember: Even if it take 3 years to become a developer that's 3 years well invested for the rest of your life. Hopefully you'll find success before then but remember, there's no rush. Feeling rushed will just stress you out and probably slow you down!

@@franciscangco2664 yeah in the same boat, only meme projects, did 2.5 years of IT in uni till dropped out cause ran out of money, been a janitor and uber food courier for last 6 years, been taking online courses to refresh programming skills but dont get any invitations to job interviews, send out like 5 CV-s per month. Those shitty A.I. interviews just waste your time, no human interaction or feedback.
