Any hopes for the Liberals is to find someone from the provinces who isn't tainted by Trudeau and possibly breath fresh air into the Liberals. But if they keep Trudeau, the Liberals may go through what the conservatives experienced when Mulrooney left Kim Campbell in charge. It took decades for the conservatives to be relevant again.

Trudeau literally claimed this morning that Canadians need to be "more engaged with politics" and that is the reason he and his party are doing so poorly after the byelection loss. He is claiming the only reason people don't like him and the Liberals is because the vast majority of Canadians who want him gone just don't know how ignorant they are about how good he and his party are for Canada. I have been watching politics for 40 year and have voted centre right and centre left in that time. I have NEVER in my lifetime seen a Canadian PM both so viscerally hated by so many and yet completely oblivious to what is headed his way - his Liberals are on track to basically be wiped out in the next election based on polling today going from minority government to fourth place (if election held today they would go from 154 seats down to 32 seats) they would be wiped out leaving the separatist Bloc Quebecois as the Official Opposition. Every major negative thing that has hit Western countries in the last few years - housing crisis, immigration, inflationary spending - Trudeau and his party have made every single one of those key issues (and corollaries like access to health care when you bring in millions of immigrants without proper preparation) so. much. worse. The infuriating part is on every ONE of those files they were warned by experts both inside and outside the government and ignored those warnings in favor of governing by optics alone - ignoring sound long term policy. The Liberals just announced a desperate policy change extending mortgage to 30 years (from 25) and allowing tax payer funded mortgage insurance to now cover 1.5 million dollar homes - which are only an average home price in Toronto and Vancouver (which the Liberals are struggling to hold onto) - thus further juicing home prices which are already some of the highest in the world. People will literally be dancing in the streets here in Canada if he resigns - that is absolutely insane to say in stodgy old Canada but its true.

@@caseclosed9342 Russia's army isn't that big either if you exclude the hundreds of thousands conscripts picking their nose back home because Putin does want to commit them because of the political implications and because he honestly doesn't have enough equipment to sustain it. Same in most countries, manpower number alone means very little. How well trained are they, how well equipped are they and most importantly, can you constantly supply them with everything a soldier needs during the full duration of a war? The supply and equipment are always the issue, you can get as many blokes with rifles, but that doesn't make a functional army.

Him dropping out makes no sense. Why would anyone serious want to be leader right now? Jesus himself could come back and still lose if he was leader of the party. I am a liberal voter really like Trudeau but the country doesn’t feel the same way unfortunately.

I’m not saying they’re doing a good job, but isn’t a 1/3rd approval rating pretty good for a 3 or 2.5 party system? Like, considering the other 2/3rds are split between the conservatives, NDP, and Bloc, doesn’t 1/3rd suggest he’s got a solid support among his base?
@kingofhearts318510 күн бұрын
Majority governments are common enough that it looks bad. Lowest you can get a solid minority government is 40 something. But it's not an ideal position.

He is the only person in Canada's history to win with less than 33% of the vote and he's done that twice, even the conservatives got more votes than him the last 2 elections which has never happened in Canada before, he's super unpopular but due to vote splitting and other reasons he always wins a disproportional amount of seats, similar to what has happened in the UK last election.

The first is standard internet dickery and the second is horrifically irresponsible.
