In 1980s there were Ashok leyland and tata trucks. They were not very fast but a truck rated gor 9 tons used to carry 12 tons and indian drivers were used to this much overload. Then came Ford trucks. These were very fast. A tata truck could touch 80 kmph where as a ford truck could clock 110 to 120 kmph. The problem with ford truck was it could not be overloaded. A 9 ton rated truck could carry upto 10 tons. Beyond that the rear axle tube would break. Drivers were hired to do overloading of ford truck and then running it at 100 kmph. There were breakdowns on the road and the company was shunted out. Ashok leyland company is south india based but to run the businesses it has service stations all over india. Kamaz is no small group. How can they ignore service outlets all over india. Since they are supplying to army they are robust. A good quality means higher cost . I remeber a Bedford truck came to Chandigarh from abroad. Bedford does not have any service station in india but hindustan motors Chandigarh provided service to the truck. Spares were imported and after about ten days the truck was repaired and went away.
