KASHMIR HISTORY:- when Mihirkula was refused an initiation by Kashmiri Buddhists, he went to Purushpora (aka peshawar) and converted to Shivaism. Then he returned with Peshawari Hindus who under Mughal Occupation took the self-styled title of Kashmiri Pandits'. It is to be remembered that Kashmiri Buddhist kings and Afghan Buddhists always warred against hindus, hence it motivated Mihirkula to persecute Buddhists. But once he was defeated in Takka (aka punjab), his reign ended and various kashmiri buddhist kings returned to power. Even after that, Mihirkula instigated a rebellion in Kashmir and plundered the land but was crushed soon after. Buddhism had a resurgence afterwards and given the historically warm relations between China and Kashmir (as kashmiri Buddhists propagated Mahayana Buddhism in China), buddhism was restored. It was only after the arrival of Islam in Afghanistan that Kashmiri buddhist kings learning from Afghan buddhists, started employing muslim Arab and Persian mercenaries with their families. The trend continued to such a great extent that Kashmir's army comprised majorly of muslims from 900AD when the entire population was buddhist majority. It was only after late 1100AD that buddhists started converting to islam, initially, due to the influence of these mercenaries and after Sultan Shuayb Ud Din of Kashmir, buddhism breathed its last in the region historically associated with Kashmi. As for Kalhana, his work is a total failure, propaganda and no historian trust his work or that of Jonaraja given how their fabrications have been repeatedly exposed as they were deliberately created to manipulate the history . Also, Rajatarangini which is much touted as a historical document cannot be traced beyond 15th century at most ,. Moreover, it's important to remember that unlike the colonialists Would have us believe, Kashmiris converted to islam from Buddhism. Historically, Kashmiri, Afghan and Ghandari Buddhists always fought against Brahmins . Their animosity is largely omitted from history now. So kashmir went from Central Asian Shamanism to Buddhism and then to Islam. Brahmins/Hinduism never had any foothold in Kashmir. If anything, Muslims Sultans of Kashmir were more tolerant of Brahmins than Buddhist rulers of Kashmir. about Kashmir's ancient history, you Won't find any reliable source because most documents have been written during Dogra Occupation by Pandits and Dogra government actually had a department to saffronise kashmiri history and those fabrications are handed down now generation by generation and backed by the Indian state as the mainstream narrative. As an example, kashmir being a historic part of central asian region is completely omitted in modern kashmiri memory. kashmir being a historic persianate society is also brushed over among other things. kashmiri language being a derivative of kasthori which is a direct derivative of Aramaic is not even mentioned, let alone researched upon. And so on and so forth. Hence, I won't recommend any books. What i would recommend is for you to independently read the history of Scythian migration, their routes and history. Also, read greek history of Hellenistic era from independent sources to understand greco-kashmir ties. Kashmiris, today, are descendants of greeks, persians, tibetans, turks and pre-mongoloid central asians, who had migrated eastward from present day Finland, Belarus and Ukraine. Also, a curious point to note is that kashmiri language is the only asian language which has a germanic sentence structure. Moreover, the word KASHMIR comes from pre islamic persian word Kashwer meaning country and Pamir, which are central asian mountains. This explains why in greek maps by Herodotus and others, Kashmir is mentioned as Casperia. Then again Kashwerpamir or Country of Pamir is a persian exonym. The endonym Kasheer is simply a variation of this persian word. The actual name for this territory will not be known to us unless we delve deep into chinese records and accounts of Heiun Tsang, both of which arent accessible in their original form to any given Kashmiri. So yeah, there are a lot of foreign backed literature, actually, there is only foreign backed literature out there. So independernt research is the way to truth ... kashmir is not a sanskrit word. Kashmir is a shortered form of Kashwerpamir. Like Jomm is the shortened form of Jammu which in turn is a variant of Jambhu which happens to be the shortened form of Jambhulochan. The word has beern borrowed into sanskrit. It's not originally sanskrit. The sanskrit variant is Kasmira. The land was dissipated from water. Evidences have been found that suggest the same.

For the love of Allah , for heavens sake dont say kashmiri were hindus !!! Hindusim was never ever any religion. Its simply a cluster or an envelope of many independent ethnic tradtional religions and we kashmiris have nothing to do with that ... kashmiris converted from Shamanism to Buddhism to islam. Since brahmins were centuries old blood enimies of buddists thats why brahmins used to invade Kashmir numerous times and because of the geographical location of kashmir brahmins couldn't had that grip over kashmir all the time and buddist kingdom kept rising again . This kept switching until islam came and long after that when brahmins rose again ,this time in the name of dogras , they with the help of soo called pandits changed every single thing about Kashmir's history , destroyed old kashmiri texts and records , introduced their fabricated books and imposed them on kashmiris , converted and renamed all the buddist temples and ruins into brahmin temples , converted old buddist legends and myths as brahmin including the famous lady of kashmir "lal diyd" who in reality was a buddist later converted to islam !!!!

I respect your discourses on kashmir life in general including historical developments of Srinagar city. But your this one surprises me quite a lot. Please read Baharistan i Shahi and Tohfat ul Abab to know whether there was any forced conversion. I am quiting these two books bcoz both hv been written by Muslim authors and you wud trust them more than "pandit" authors. And by the way, why go that far? We both are living witness to present history of Kashmiri Pandits. Does that not give you clear picture of what cud hv happened when state authority was with muslim rulers. I request you not to change historical narratives. You are a wise man. Feel proud of your ancestory and feel the pain of the attrocities which your ancestors must hv gone through during those tyrant times.

Zareef saeb, you produce great material about recent history of Kashmir in general and Srinagar city in particular. It is admirable and at our ages we are living witness to the events. (I am 73 and my ancestral house was in Alikadal, Budhgair).But you need to study more of early kashmir history. You are totally wrong in advocating that conversions took place bcoz of exploitation of lower castes. Sheikh Abdullah's great grand father was Raghav Ram Koul.(His own statement in Aatish e Chinar). And you know Kouls are not lower castes. Try to find out your own ancestry if interested, you may find it ending up with some Brahmin. Most of the mass conversions were with force. This is recorded even by muslim historians of the times. Heard about Sikhandar Butshikan, Musa Raina, Sadruddin(Suh Bhat), Shamsuddin Arakki etc? They were brutal. Obviously, we cannot find a human witness to tell us what they went through, including your ancestors who accepted conversion to live. But ruins of grand temples still stand as witness to the dark events. Khankah e maula was a Kali Tample. It was occupied by Shah e Hamdan and converted into Khankah. Pandits still pray at the wall on the river side ghat below. Not to speak of Martand etc which we all hv known as 'Pandav Lari'. These are standing witness to history. All the ancient temples stand destroyed except a couple of them for some reasons - one is at Pandrethan (now within Army cantonement at Badami Bagh). Prominent temples now existing in Kashmir were constructed in Dogra rule. So this narrative that conversions happened willingly bcoz lower castes were unhappy is totally misplaced.

Isalm first enter to Kashmir through through trade and sufi missionaries. Prominent figures like Bulbul Shah Kashmiri and Shahi Hamdan palyed a significant role. In the 14th century, after the fall of the Hindu Lohara dynasty, Kashmir came under Muslim rule. Some policies under rulers like Sultan Sikandar (commonly referred to as "Sikandar Butshikan") have been described as coercive, including forced conversions, although historical accounts on this are biased and doesn't have a solid proof. Talking about the dogra dinesty, it was brutal, weather it was forced labour or forcing women into prostitution. It has beed described as an act of humiliating Muslim population because for dogra women prostitution was illigal but Muslim women were forced in it, particularly the widows and orphans. Building Hindu temples is not even a factor to determine whether the dynasty was good or bad. It is just because you are a hindu. A significant portion of the population embraced Islam over time, often voluntarily, due to the influence of Sufi teachings and the socio-political advantages of aligning with the ruling class. Additionally, the egalitarian principles of Islam appealed to many in the caste-based society Cast system was not a main factor but people gradually with time accept islam as he said later 2:14 . He just said people were fed up with cast system islam seems them a batter option.

@@User1a2 I am not defending Dogras for their rule or anything else. I just mentioned that all ancient temples were destroyed before that. That is the evidence of forced conversions besides historical records. Pl read Bharistan e Shahi and Tofat ul Abab. Both written by muslim authors of the period.
@User1a2
@User1a2 2 күн бұрын
@@JaanbaazKoshurTofatat ul Abab, written by Baba Dawood Khaki, a disciple of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom, highlights the spiritual efforts of Sufi saints in spreading Islam in Kashmir. It portrays the transformative influence of Sufism and doesn't specifically state that the convertions were forced. Bahristan-e-Shahi does not specifically argue that Islam was forced on the people of Kashmir. It provides a historical account of the spread of Islam in the region, emphasizing the role of Sufi saints, missionaries, and rulers in introducing and promoting Islam. It also criticised Sultan Sikandar for demolition of temples and religious restrictions on Hindus. But still it not an authentic book. It was written by an anonymous auther. The events described, especially those from earlier periods, were often based on oral traditions or second-hand accounts rather than direct observation or contemporary records.This makes it prone to exaggerations or selective recounting of events or to emphasize hindu suffering. Also there are other books like Ain-i-Akbari, Tarikh-i-Kashmir by Haidar Malik Chaduara. These texts highlight that people converted due to admiration for Sufi spirituality and their emphasis on equality and justice, rather than through force. You are only trusting Bahristan e Sahi, because you are a hindu and you don't like Muslim rulers, i guess. Bahristane Sahi also emphasizes Sufism. There might be historical accounts were non muslims were forced to convet but saying islam was forcibly introduced in Kashmir is baseless. We have a whole history of soufi saints. We embraced islam which is not possible by any forcible convertion.
