King Charles III has been visiting Romania regularly for many years.
In a speech given during his latest visit he explained why he loves the country.
One of the King’s favourite spots is apparently the village of Viscri in Transylvania.
A local guest house manager explained why Charles loves the area.

He's right! I have been to Romania several times, it is a wonderful country, Transylvania is especially beautiful, love the history, the castles and the summer palace in Transylvania. The people are great, go visit and don't miss Bulgaria either, another gem.

@@KatharinaK117 most of them left after 1989 when communism fell to Germany to escape poverty, but now Transylvania has improved extremely much ( went from a gdp per capita of 5.000$ to 30.500$ since 1990 ) and many come back to live their lives there.

@@dacian_1346 yep. Heard so ..but many had or got money from relatives who moved back to Germany! After ca. 200 yrs! Heard also, some move back again. As ..coz of the wokism ...often...In Germany! Also not all ppl are about money! I just literally loved the way, Germans there still lived, as I saw it also on a long vacation with my grandparents in Croatia when I was 8! Some Germans of origin still lived there, too...as farmers. But only ones, who were married with Croatians or Serbs. But the old ppl there lived in their old traditional ways, I'm so grateful to God, I still could see and experience such soul by these old ppl and they had horses, an old big oven outside and many fields...like in a fairytale and I loved it so much! And I know, in Transylvania...Siebenbürgen, ..it was so, too! As my grandparents knew ppl from there, Germans...so loved tht old atmosphere..like in the Middle Ages.. it needs to be preserved. At least a "Tourist kinda area"...

Because Charles saw Romania for what it is and not for what BBC and Sky news has told him it is. The British people are sold an unreal and rather stereotypical image of Romania while this man had access to unfiltered news about the country. He has experienced it first hand.

Villages like this one you can find all over Romania, even the ones located in the Danube plain but they are not as spectacular as the ones in the mountains! The villages in The Danube Delta region are also something to remember and the dishes are mainly made from various fish. Romania is very diverse and beautiful in landscapes..also towns are nice and clean...quite safe as well...about 90% of the people own their own house...the younger generation inherited land from thier older parents but some sold it for little money and went to work abroad...I can never understand how can people sell the most precious thing you can own this world which is land. Countries carry wars for it! Bad management of the country after 1990 revolution together with some very determined foreign " investors" who manged to find the weak and bribed left and right to put thier hands on many of the resources Romania has resulted in many people leaving this beautiful country. I really hope they will come back and find the peace and happiness here.

The revolution was in dec. of 1989. But yeah, everything went downhill economically for the country, since Democracy was installed to "free" the people. Not pro- communism, but at least then our resources were ours ( the country's).

His dad was a couple of months short of his 100th birthday and his mother was 96. And you think he's only got another 5 years to live.

I'm a 3rd generation american of Romanian heritage and I absolutely love the King after I discovered he shares lineage with Vlad Tepes himself! I'm not only a bit envious , but very proud that he is the King of England with a shared blood as myself! Romanians are not often thought of in high places so this is a treat, and he shines a pure and honest light on the country via his endorsements! He has spent time in Valea Zalandului this time, but I was intrigued to see the difference in His Majesty, compared to how he was captured on video and in pictures on the outings he's had since the Coronation. In those captures he looked serious and kind of tired, was polite to the people he greeted and everything, but when he was shown here, in Romania, my goodness, it was like he was another person. He was smiley, relaxed and had a bit of a spring in his step... and he kissed the villagers on their cheeks like one does when they visit family in this neck of the woods; oh, and he didn't shy away from reporters.. but then again, the reporters didn't exactly overstep any boundaries, so maybe that's why. He did pay a short visit to Viscri right before he left, though, and people were happy to see him. At least that's what I noticed from the MANY news reports about him.

I have seen in many comments in the videos posted by foreign tourists, that they should stop promoting Romania and leave it as a hidden gem, safe from the hordes of tourists that would disturb the peace of the villages, the wildness of the forests and the wild animals, especially the bears.

That's exactly why Romanians want: the hordes of uncivilized Western European tourists to stay out, so that Romania, a much loved country a truly God-blessed one, to remain as special, as wonderful as it is. Unfortunately that's not possible, nothing can stop the destruction once it has been invaded by some types of foreigners/Europeans...

I don't know, I'm Romanian & tourism is what helps sustain the area. It gives people work opportunities, incentivizes authorities to invest in restorations & different infrastructure projects, etc. Take Viscri for example, before King Charles started promoting it, it was a dying village. Very few ppl still lived there & there were no economic opportunities or reasons to revive it... as it was unknown. Now, it's part of the UNESCO world heritage. So, tourism def has its upsides. 🙂 And thank you to His Majesty for promoting it & other places in Romania. 🇷🇴🇬🇧 Much appreciated

Hi, I am currently working on a project where we interview people impacted by a historical event. I chose to do the Romanian Revolution because it is a fascinating event in which the Romanian people managed to unite together to overthrow a dictator. I would like to interview someone who has experienced the Romanian Revolution and was old enough to have remembered their experiences during the revolution. I plan on having an interview from 15 - 20 minutes via Zoom in English and videotape it. The recording will only be utilized for my school project, and I will not show the interviewee’s face unless given permission to. @@dyawr It was indeed a revolution, the revolt of the Romanian people and the fight for freedom was sincere. That part was authentic. But the outcome, the path the country took ever since, was pre-planned and controlled. As Walter Roman wrote after he was removed from the Stalinist government in 1951 with the fall of his ruling Stalinist circle led by Ana Pauker : "La vremuri noi, tot noi" (regardless how times, how regimes will change, we'ill still be the rulers).
