WHY Klopp's teams burn out quicker

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool are having a rough time of things right now. Their bid to retain the Premier League title has fallen apart. They have lost six games in a row at Anfield, which had been a fortress until recently. And many of their key players just can't seem to stay fit. But for Bundesliga fans, none of this comes as a surprise. They've seen similar things happen to Klopp's former sides at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz. Do Klopp's teams simply burn out quicker?

I follow Mourinho's career since 2002 and I can assure you that his team burn out quicker than Klopp. The problem with Liverpool this season is the fact that their style of play, Gegenpress, is physically VERY demanding AND because of COVID most teams have two games per week. How quicker??? 7 years with dortmund 6 years with liverpool. Hell yeah players eventually get tired there are no totti or buffon anymore that constantly play for the same club years over years. Players also need a change that's for sure. Two option in Liverpool's way: "Change the manager or change the players" That's how ferguson managed a single club for years. Klopp said to Watzke that half of the squad has to leave and new players should come in... that is the only way He could imagine to stay and Klopp wanted to stay in Dortmund for a new start. But Watzke didn't agree to that idea, so Klopp Watzke and Zorc decided together it's the best for BVB to have a new start with a new coach and they decided it so early because Tuchel was on the Market at this time. So... Watzke and Zorc regret that decision later on they said.

During Klopp's last year in Dortmund (2014-2015), he finished the season at the 7th place (they were last in December) and he reached the final in the german cup after beating Bayern Munich in the semi-final. The similarities are worrying. After a huge energetic expansion, it's common to experience some lows. I think Klopp needs to realise he deserves more success. I feel like he doesn't prepare for sustained success. He seems to prefer smaller squads and the lack of depth in the Liverpool squad has been evident in the poor performances in domestic cup competitions. This season 'the squad' has had to play. Congratulations on the quality video and the engaging presenting style.
@Vukii92
@Vukii92 3 жыл бұрын
It may be true but the problem with bigger squads is that they are harder to motivate and sometimes a few individuals are enough to get the morale of the whole team to a low. And with smaller Squads it's easier to keep everyone happy, the downside is as you Mentioned, higher fatigue and lack of reserve players in case of an injury.

Brilliant video but it's harsh to call they are burned out at the moment. In klops initial years at Liverpool, they were playing good football but VVD was the one factor stabilised it and took them into next level. Now it's not only VVD but kind of every option for centre of the diffence is getting injured. I know,it doesn't explain not being able to score at Anfield but let's see what happens if VVD comes back in the back and fabinho, hendo starts in the middle once again ( I hope that will happen before a emotional burnout after losing game after game)

@@dwkickoff Its more mental than physical. This liverpool team was in the final 2018 in the UCL which they lost which was the motivation for the 2019 season when they won the UCL and came short for 1 point in the league, that became the motivation for last seasons BPL succes. What’s the motivation now for the same players ? They are mentally burned and that’s why new 5/6 names should be added to the squad and remove/sell the players who arent motivated anymore for succeeding with this club.

Soso Lawson so vvd was injured because of klopp? I guess electing him was the issue. All German coaches are intense in fitness. I ran 20 miles a day for a German coach for 2 months in preseason. Funny thing is I was never injured through the training. I was injured by dribbling around my goalkeeper. During the season it’s basic fitness because it takes that much fitness to get into match shape...after that you stay in shape unless injured. Players have a huge fault in injuries as well. They push themselves too hard a lot of the time.

This was a great video, really enjoyed it but...I think it’s important to take into consideration that At Dortmund he lost his best players... Lewandoski went Bayern, gortze went Bayern, Hummels went Bayern, Sahin went Real Madrid... I think this explains the drop off in 2014- as he had to rebuild again.

@Abhirup Nath You obviously don't know history, they finished 7th that season he left. When he was asked whether publicly saying he would leave at the end of the season was responsible for their string of positive results, he declared that if he knew he would have made the statement much earlier. So, his final season wasn't so bad, seeing as the qualified for Europa and would later play Liverpool in that electrifying Anfield game.

5-7 years for a manager to stayed in a team, I think it's long enough. If I'm a player/manager, and I've been playing/watching/analysing your tacticals ever since you came, in 2-3 years, I've grown accustomed to your tactics, your managing habits, your players habits, etc. all of them. It's doesn't surprise me anymore. So it's okay. Nothing serious. It's normal. Bounce back Klopp 💪

Nice video, I see what you’re trying to say. Just a note to the people in the comment section though: Have Liverpool been doing the gegenpress as much this season though? In the majority of their games this season they’ve been a possession based team. They’ve had the most possession this season out of any PL team but recently over the last few games City have taken that accolade. The need for gegenpress hasn’t been too prevalent because they’ve had the ball and controlled the majority of the games. They just haven’t been able to score goals with the possession they have. The blueprint for many teams seems to be to sit back absorb pressure and counter. It’s a rarity to see Liverpool use the gegenpress. I think they’ve abandoned that as their main defensive tactic for around a year and a half now. Also just a note on injuries. I’m not sure how much is due to wear and tear from over the years. The front 3 have been fit pretty much all season, the midfield has picked up a few injuries which isn’t out of the ordinary as the players injured usually pick up injuries every season somewhere along the way (Keita, Ox, Shaqiri Henderson, Fabinho). The injuries to the defence is the only (kind of) anomaly and the big one came from force, not wear and tear. Matip gets injured every other week and this is the 4th injury that has kept Gomez has had in 6 years that has kept him out for 120+ days. So I’m not sure if it can all be attributed to wear and tear. To me it seems more like unfortunate timing. If VVD doesn’t get injured in the Everton game the chances are that he goes on to play the majority of games this season (as he is rarely injured for a long period of time). If VVD doesn’t get taken out then the Liverpool injury problem doesn’t look that bad really and looks at least somewhat similar to everyone else’s in the premier league. Even in the table shown in the video Liverpool aren’t highest for the number of injuries they have but the most cumulative games missed. Which seems only natural given the 3 long term injuries they have. It may be the case that the team have burned out somewhat but I think it’s also a case of other teams sussing out Liverpool tactically and blocking the threat from wing backs which was the source of 33 goal contributions in the league last year and this season has been halted to only 10. Liverpool’s wingers (particularly Mane) haven’t really had as much opportunity to do what they do best this season which is run at defenders because of the low block that most teams use against them and the lack of space afforded to them in attacking positions. The goals have dried up as teams know how to play against them. The blueprint to beat Liverpool is now very very clear and has only become more evident with each game that it’s been employed against them. Time will tell if it is a burn out of the players or not but if Liverpool want to compete they’re going to need to change things up tactically and with personnel like every other big club has been doing over the last few years.
