Why KZ S1 is My TOP Budget TWS?! - Full Review + Latency + Call Tests

IMPORTANT UPDATE: currently KZ is in the process of 'upgrading' the charging case, and now they're shipping 3 (THREE) different cases randomly, the changes are: 1) Charging pins changed from 3 to 2 2) No more pressing a button to light up battery indicator, instead it'll turn on when you take/put the earbuds. 3) "charging case is back to the original size, smaller and portable" -> In my videos, this refers to the S1D's bigger case as the 'old' one, and my KZ S1 as the 'new' one. 4) "the old version of charging interface is type-C interface, and the new version is changed to USB interface" Now about that 4th point, I really see no point 'upgrade' if you're going from Type-C to (micro) USB. It will lose one advantage to GT1 Plus, not sure if any of you mind going back to micro USB, but USB-C all the things right? Maybe this KZ S1 won't stay long as my top recommendation... Huh. ________________________ I REALLY didn’t expect AAC on Android would be THAT bad! Maybe it's the Bluetooth 4.2 in my Redmi 5 Plus, but past results comparing my iPad (BT4.2) to iPhone X (BT5.0) aren't that different... @@namedkenn Thanks, yes I was surprised how good the clones were, beating GT1+ for me at very low volumes. With buds having different signatures (v-shaped, bassy, mid focussed, analytical, etc.) it is good to have your honest reviews. If you add a short description of sound signature, how well they perform in a house through walls and perception at different volumes you will I think have the perfect review. Not at all a secure fit but very good bluetooth range. Touch control and call quality (in quiet environment) surprisingly good. Sound is a surprise element as it gives you a decent base with very nice vocal clarity. Treble a bit on higher side. As rightly said by you soundstage wise feels you are in a small room and vocalist and instruments sit very close to you. A kind of narrow feel

Haylou GT1 Plus still for me. The smaller size and compact case just sold me easily. Plus, the battery lasts longer, 5 hours vs 3.5 hours. At least this should hav bigger battery in the case, 300 mAh is very similar to small GT1 case, simply unacceptable. Just my 2 cents here, everyone has different needs and taste, cheers :)

I’d say forget this and go straight for KZ S2, it resolves most of my complaints about the S1. For Onyx Ace, I’m pretty sure it won’t sound as good, mics are decent in these KZ too so don’t worry

I realise recent Bluetooth earphones seem to favour "gaming mode" over "volume control"... 😰 After your Awei T10C recommendation, I have yet to find something as complete as that. Do you know of any? I've got one with perfect control! It's called Eggel Liberty Buds 2, but unfortunately it's only for Indonesian market. Also yes anything with QCC3020 chip will take a couple seconds to switch from L to R. And I've gone through how I do latency tests in my first QCY T5 gaming mode video, basically you record in 60fps, then make a timeline in 24fps, then slow down that 60fps footage to 40% speed so every frame would fit in a 24p timeline, then start counting frames from when the screen starts moving, until sound comes out. Then let's say it's 10 frames, you do 10/24x40% = 167ms You know since 24fps means 24 frames per second, 1 second means 1000ms, and when slowed down 40%, each 24 frames in a 60fps clip will be 0,4s or 400ms. Something like that!

Was wondering do you test the aptX based TWS with aptX enabled smartphones? Because I feel that's important. I tested my Tronsmart Spunky Beat with a phone that didn't had aptX and it sounded shit. The only thing better was the battery life on these earphones because aptX consumes a little more than AAC/SBC I guess.

Okay first and foremost what phone did you use that didn't have aptX? Since I started the channel I've been reviewing earbuds with iPhones and iPad so I basically reviewed everything on SBC/AAC, I haven't got the budget to get another phone currently and I have to go on with my limitations. Though that said, I think I made it clear that I am testing these earbuds with devices that don't support aptX, but even so I praised the sound of Spunky Beat for example, because it sounded fantastic. And just recently I got to try out a phone that supports aptX because I came back to my home country (my brother's Redmi K20 Pro), and let's take GT1 Plus for example, I didn't find any significant difference listening to it on my iPhone or on aptX. I use the same source on both though, it's Apple Music which I'm subscribed to. So my question to you is, what music source are you listening to? Streaming service? Or a FLAC file or the lossless Tidal?

@@namedkenn Mi A1. It's called 5X in some regions. Maybe it has BT 4.2 so that could be the reason but I tested these on iPhone 8 as well and they were quite similar. The details were missing that you find on aptX. Again, when I said shit I mean shit in comparison to aptX otherwise it sounds great. On my OnePlus 6 it sounds on a different level which has aptX enabled. Also, it's fine, I know you are on limited budget. I wasn't asking you to buy a separate device just to test these 😂. I just wanted to know if you have tested these on aptX enabled phones because there IS a significant difference. I tested all these on Spotify with 2 different tracks.

Alright, first of all GT1 Pro doesn’t sound all that different from your GT1, so at best you’ll only be getting the dual-mode, gaming mode and better case battery (that’s assuming you have the older master-slave GT1), if you upgrade to GT1 Plus, you’ll get a better sound, aptX if supported and better playtime. No gaming mode though, and the case is exactly the same, but mainly it sounds nicer.

Aha exactly, my past testing with iPhone 6S or iPad Pro (2016) was never this bad, despite both using the same Bluetooth 4.2. So I don't know if it's the extra processing of the AAC codec being used, or the Redmi Note 5 processor isn't very strong, I suspect there are other factors at play here. If you use a newer device I think it should at least be the same with what I got on iPhone X here. Also if you're upgrading, I think it would be best to use QCY T5 when you're gaming, because as I found in my previous video, this is just not made for gaming in the first place.

I personally think you don't need to buy another TWS for the time being. GT1 Pro is a great earbuds more so if you game, and the case lasts forever haha if you absolutely need louder volume or you need a sound quality upgrade then go for KZ S1 (and use your Haylou eartips)

I unfortunately didn’t bring Edifier with me so i’ll be talking based off my memory. I think both are great, at this point, but you definitely get better build in Edifier, also the sound there is more balanced, as opposed to the detail-oriented KZ S1. Also soundstage is larger

Huh? Where did I say these earbuds are ugly? (actually I don't recall saying those sentences since... Bluedio Hi 😂 sad times but let's move on) These have the same design of the Sabbat which I loved, only slightly taller. And while battery is not its strong point, its sound quality is. But I admit GT1 Pro case is still better though. Also if you're not complaining about the sound quality of what you currently have right now, you don't need to buy a new one! 👍🏻

My pleasure man 🙏🏻 I believe going TWS is mostly not for the sound quality, but to get the convenience of having no cable at all. You know, being able to throw your phone around without the tether cable getting stuck into things, being able to look anywhere, shake my head as hard as I can without the cable making annoying sounds (or pulling the earbuds out of my ear), it's more to the freedom and convenience which I love so much. Then comes sound quality, one could say he could get a sound of a 100 bucks TWS at much cheaper, wired, for example, but of course that's the case right? If not then what's the point of getting wired earbuds haha I feel like it's convenience first then sound quality close second.

Unfortunately just like most other earbuds, if you listen at a very quiet room at a very quiet volume, there will be a little bit, but for me it’s not distracting most of the time, so not an issue I’d say
