Hi …. I was hoping you’d respond this question? Why do geotechnical stress calculations often focus on a single point load (like in the Boussinesq equation) rather than directly analyzing the total stress over a distributed area or surface? Since real-world loads are not applied at a single point, what is the practical value of calculating stresses at a single point? How are these theoretical point load solutions applied to calculate the actual stresses beneath a loaded area in real engineering problems? Thanks
