I'm from Brazil. My view is that Lula in comparison with Bolsonaro is a blessing. ----- But still, he is weak in his support for Gaza. He always talk about it in an infantilized way, like peace and rainbow. We could be doing much more, like leading the emergence of the Global South in the western hemisphere; taking more of the protagonism that South Africa, for exemple, is having; acting in a sovereign away. We would only gain by it, but this shift in international relations would require a strong leader and a instruction/education to the population.

Among the left in Latin America, there's been a decades-long opposition to Israel, partly as a result of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and partly as a result of Israel's role as an instrument of US policy in the region. For example, during the seventies and eighties, Israel advised, trained, and equipped the armies of Guatemala and El Salvador. Both those armies had very awful human-rights records, to put it mildly. There are many other examples of Latin American armies with strong ties to Israel that you can read about at your local library.

A major reason why evangelicals were able to spread so quickly, was because they were in the poorer regions of LatAm. Central America, Carribbean, and Brazil to an extent. These regions are also strategic and have a large US precense The larger and more populous states of LatAm are generally wealthier, and education is more available. As well as access to Catholic Churches. Its why Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru generally have a very small evengalical movement relative to their population.

Across large or small nations (from Brazil and Colombia to Guatemala and El Salvador) you find MASSES of ordinary, usually poor and working class people fully committed to a pretty simplistic, but nonetheless influential, Christian Zionism.
