Yeah, I don't ever expect licensing to come to Roblox due to their reputation and knack for wanting to keep as much money as possible. With the way how things are it's just not feasible. Plus they already had real car brands in for the longest time, so it definitely won't appeal to car companies.

FINALLY! Someone explaining why licensing cars wouldn’t work with ROBLOX games. It was pretty obvious from the start why licensing of vehicles wouldn’t work, considering their large price tag, and the fact that it has no point towards the gameplay.

As a person who makes and made slot games and slot cars I think it’s safe to say licensing is pretty hard due to manufacturers not wanting their cars seeing going thru a lot of stuff such as being destroyed lit on fire and etc

The only roblox game i can think of that has licensed cars is Hyundai Mobilty lmao. And also a few games that has the McLaren MCL36 for an event like Jailbreak, UD, And Driving Simulator.

I don’t believe McLaren is licensed. I think it was some type of agreement, but I’m not positive. Hyundai owned the game on roblox so they obviously don’t need to license their own cars.

We could see licensed cars in future racing games on the platform if Roblox want's to appear as a practical game engine to investors and different car brands. If there is a racing game backed by Roblox that is good enough, they may share their wallet for a return investment in interest from different groups of people & money from investors. This hasn't happened, and games have kept cars under the radar for the longest time, so a lot of brands are already off the list and Roblox might not take that chance because of this.

I hate car licensing! Why you need to pay tons of money just to have real car brands in your game?! You need to be super rich billionaire to afford them! Why car manufactures just don't allow you to add any real brands for free?!

The only things I disagree with: Technically it’s kinda illegal for games to have cars without licenses. Some games have been on sale for 10+ years and still have licensed cars (aestto corsa cones to mind) There are tons of games that have for instance realistic crash physics (the grid series for instance and still has licensed cars) If Roblox wanted to abide by us laws they would buy licenses just like how KZbin buys licensees to songs to provide to creators.

You can relicense cars. It doesn’t mKe sense though for games like horizon where a new one comes out ever few years. Ac may have renewed their licenses while there’s no point renewing the ones for horizon 4. As for the destruction games I can only say what I’ve read and that’s what I saw. Not all companies would have exactly the same rules.

hyundai has a sponsord game, and mclaren's F1 team had a sponsord event with their F1 car in 3 games (jailbreak, ultimate driving, and driving simulator)

That’s different though. Hyundai sponsored one game. As for McLaren I believe that was just for their F1 team and therefore just their f1 car.

I think roblox driving games should not copy the car brand exactly, like cars in GTAV. Rockstar didn't just ripped off real life cars, they changed their look a bit and never got a DMCA or something from the car brands.

realistically, I think most racing games on roblox are better off with fictional cars that are somewhat identical to actual vehicles, not too close to be in legal trouble but close enough to be enjoyed and liked by the games community.

Agreed that getting licenses for car models are just goofy, developers could simply make good looking car models, even if they aren’t based on real brands, but still, some brands don’t give a crap about it because they are owned by companies or other car brands that are not affiliated with big brands that are actually copyrighting the ROBLOX games

the only possible company to license is probably is mclaren because they did do a collab with roblox one time but roblox probably won't be doing that anytime soon knowing how much roblox cares about money.

I made a video about this because so many people brought this up (it’s linked in the description if you want to see it) but basically the McLaren company roblox partnered with is different than the one that makes supercars. People don’t know that. So McLaren is no more likely than anyone else to license stuff.

cars are getting banned from roblox because of driving empire because they had a gambling thing the lamborghini didint want their cars in it then other brands noticed it so they didint want there cars in roblox then all cars are getting deleted

Because Roblox is lazy and greedy the licensing costs about 15mili meanwhile Roblox makes like 7 billion. They are gonna regret when the car community of Roblox dies as it will take like 35% profit with it. We are a massive community.
