I agree. Been lifting for 24 years now and at 72 I feel fantastic. Helped hubby last week unload and transport 21 18x18” concrete paver blocks (40lbs. a piece) from driveway to back yard. I had no ill effects, hubby was totally wiped out. He is 75 and never works out. I felt fantastic. Been carnivore 273 days.

I’m 54 years old and I’ve been carnivore for about a year and a half. About a month I began a weight lifting regimen. I had been a weight lifter most of my life but fell out of that routine for about 5 years. I’m now lifting about 40 minutes 3 times per week. I feel so much better doing this. I’m shocked at how quickly my body has responded. This is sound advice. Thank you!!

Dr.Rick I like your videos. You're an encouragement to me and I'm sure many others. Good for you. I am a 73 year old man. I've been pretty strict carnivore for 16 months. I'm down 74 lbs, off all psych and blood pressure meds. I'm walking a couple of miles a day. I'm playing Pickleball four times a week and hitting the weights a couple of times a week. I've never felt better.

You are awesome! What an inspiration. My parents are in their mid 60s and I cannot get them to change their ways at all and believe me, their habits are going to kill them both very soon if they don't change. I wish I could get them to look after themselves but they just refuse to and when I see comments like yours, it makes me all the angrier at them. Oh well, it's their lives and their choices but no way am I going to just sit back and watch that happen. Good on you, sir for taking such care of yourself.

YES I am one that is going to heed your advice, starting today. I'm 63 and started carnivore eating about 4 months ago. I have major healing to do but I was actually "trying" to eat right for most of my life. I am doing much better on carnivore. I walk about a mile a day, with my dog, but it's not all at once, it's 3 walks, morning, noon and night. That is about all my legs can do in a day. But I have the Cellerciser rebounder and I'm loving the bouncing now too. I have started "sprinting" on the Cellerciser rebounder, doing just 15 seconds of sprinting every 3rd day. Sometimes 2 short sprints with 3 minute rest inbetween. I have heard sprinting is REALLY beneficial. Not jogging tho. It needs to be a sprint, and it only needs to be a short sprint. My goal is to be able to sprint on the ground by this time next year. I have some small dumb bells gathering dust too, so perhaps it's time to start pushing those around. Thanks for the inspiration.

Sciatica issues can be improved with proper stretching exercises. I had same problem 5 years ago so I added flexibility exercises to the end of my lifting routine and it resolved the issue in about 6 months. There are a lot of KZbin videos on the subject.

Dr. Rick couldn't be more correct! I've been a chiropractor for 35 years and recently was certified as a personal trainer because I am teaching every patient to exercise. Kettlebells and resistance bands seem to be the practical for most people. Other people do better at Planet Fitness/Anytime Fitness, working with dumbbells, barbells and/or machines. The research is overwhelming regarding the benefits of strength training and health span/insulin resistance. I am so convinced of the need for strength training that I now perform resistance exercise six days a week, and sprint once per week. As we age we need to exercise and increase our exercise routine to counter decreased sex hormone concentrations.

Great information. I believe sprinting is more anaerobic, like weight training, than aerobic.

Yes, true. I get some aerobic on my bike, but focus on weigths and sprinting. But there is also definitely some cardio with sprinting.
@mjkeating4 күн бұрын
I started carnivore last December after listing to one of Dr. Shawn O'Mara's many interviews. His big message is reducing visceral fat and he says sprinting is the best exercise for that. He says sprinting exercises fast twitch muscles like no other and activates myokines which will build muscle all over the body. I was a good sprinter in my youth, so I started sprinting and started carnivore a month or so after that. I also do pull ups and pushups to failure a couple of times per week. It seems to work pretty well and at my age, 61, I'll take it :)

I’m 63 and it really helps to keep me limber and out of pain and I’m building muscle. I agree that people of any age would benefit from it. If you’re starting out from a low point, a great option is learning to use resistance bands. You can work up to doing full range-of-motion exercise with very light resistance. If you’re older, this can keep your joints mobile and reduce the risk of injury while you build functional strength.

I wish I could exercise. I have apparently the one and only condition for which exercise is not advised: ME/CFS with PEM. I can sometimes walk a little, but for 25 years I have been trying to add in even minuscule amounts of strength training, and the result every single time is post-exertional malaise and a worsening of my condition. 😔

Important info here, with main takeaway being that strength training is a must. If we want to be consistent about muscle fiber types however, Type One is known as SLOW TWITCH while Type Two is classed as FAST TWITCH. For some reason people feel empowered when they “know” their Muscle Fiber Types. 😮

Carnivore lifter. I'm thinking I'm a lean mass hyper responder. One thing I can't find any info on. My triglycerides shot way up(235) along with my LDL. HDL is 40. I don't have ketone in my urine or blood. Done both tests. So I assume I'm skipping that recycle process in my liver. Maybe that's why triglycerides are high? They are circulating and being used up for energy????
