US Submariner here 1. There is no longer a requirment to be male as of 5 years ago. 2. We usually replenish food at sea. 3. Were broken into 3 sets of 8 hours now, changed 5 years ago 4. We dont slam doors and be quiet so we dont get detected from other boats, not because of sleeping people. 5. The reactor itself actually takes up very little space, 1/3 of the ship is the engine room that houses alot of equipment and machinery for propulsion, water creation and air production. 6. Your drawings of submarines seems to be based off russian submarines instead of US submarines based on the conning tower design.

This is a poorly researched video to say the least. From my experiences on fast attack subs; 1. A person has to volunteer to get into the sub fleet, but can't volunteer their way out. 2. Females have served on American subs since 2011. 3. Food is not the only limiting consumable on board. 4. All American nuke subs (except the Virginia class) can or have been refueled. 5. Watches can be 6 hours on 12 hours off, 6 on 6 off, or 6 on and 18 off. 6. Sailors know the time by clocks/watches, not meals. 7. Officers have much more personal space than junior enlisted. 8. There are 2 shower stalls for the junior enlisted, 1 for chiefs, 1 for junior officers and 1 for the XO/CO. 9. The ship's washer and dryer is usually run anytime, only lazy Sailors run out of clean clothes. 10. There are 4 toilets for the 110 junior enlisted, 1 for the JO's, 1 for the CPO's and 1 for the CO/XO. 11. The "no politics" while underway is BS. 12. The shellback initiation described is wrong for the most part.

I was in the RN. Our terminology differs somewhat from yours. The only thing I resented about being a submar(r)iner was the lack of proper jollies. 3rd sqdn being at Faslane, we got all the sneakies. But I tell you what you can't beat, is coming out of a machinery space after the First watch and, when on the surface getting permission for 10 minutes on the bridge. The Adriatic was fascinating. You could see both coast lines lit up. But the best was inside the Arctic Circle with the sea flat calm and not a cloud in the sky. The waves glittering as they broke across the bow. The most emotional thing though was laying in your bunk and hearing whales singing. We once swam in the Med out of sight of land. Diving from the forward planes and climbing up a rope ladder. Sea so clear you could see right under the boat. A migrating sparrow landed on the casing until it got its breath back and then took off again towards Africa. We all cheered it on.

My dad is on the USS Connecticut SSN22 right now. I don't think that most of this video is correct. I guess it depends on the sub? The Connecticut is a fast attack sub but still 350 feet long. Idk all he does on there other than like artic training or something but this video definitely got the sleep thing wrong. I remember him saying he'd wake up after a 36 hour shift, taking a 45 minute nap and then going back for another 36 hours and then going to sleep for 22 hours. But I think normal watches are like 6 hours. I've heard stories of people on watch with weak stomachs and small bladders who would piss in the bilge funnel or take a shit in a bucket behind the switchboards. Some dude shit his pants without having watch relief. Every day you clean the boat. Like religiously. My dad always said that after a 6 month deployment you could tell who a guy was by their shoes. That's how close quarter it was and how close you were to any one person at any given time.
