Jon Lovett talked about the tribe not having many strategic discussions, but was that really the case? The TV episode made it look like Jon didn’t fit in with his younger tribemates while Jeff Probst said he was a threat to win. Were these the actual explanation? So cool to see Jake on the podcast! Not sure if it was mentioned in the comments, but Randen from S46 put his buff over his face to avoid mud in the eyes in the opening challenge. They most likely saw it before going to the island.

I wish someone would have mentioned the threat of being a speech writer. He told his tribe he was a speech writer before he became a podcaster, which I think was a HUGE mistake! He didn't want to lie, fine, but why tell people you used to professionally write political speeches, lol wow, that's super threatening to anyone's game. Most lawyers lie about their profession because people are intimidated by the idea that they can persuade a jury at the ftc. What do you think ran through their head when he talked about writing speeches for presidents to persuade an entire nation to back their policies and ideas 😆 It was just a second in the episode, but this is the one point that I believe made all the difference and was hoping so badly that someone would bring it up.

And I'm not sure how much his tribemates knew about who he wrote for or why, but I think the combination of seeing how quickly Jon can speak on his feet + his oversharing (IMO) about previous jobs may have left an impression that this guy is pretty smart (and or slick). I don't think it necessarily amounted to raising his threat level specifically because of his career, but first impressions are tough to shake.

50 minutes in and I'm just shocked Jon throwing Anika under the bus is being downplayed as if it had zero impact, when it's the only thing we're actually shown to explain what happened.

I don’t think that it was that big a reason. I trust Jon’s read that he was already the target after the challenge and was trying to get anything going.

@@arjunkishore4080 Why? What would be the point of even airing that conversation if the point wasn't to tell us Anika is being targeted by Jon, thus making Jon the new target?

@@hauntedbottles probably to show Jon fighting till the end and explain why he voted for her and not Andy. Before he discusses Anika, we see his confessional saying he doesn’t believe Andy is the real target

@@arjunkishore4080 Yeah. Andy thought that before he even was THE target. They have more anxious personalities. Jon played it the opposite of what he should have in that situation. The girl who's name I can't remember basically did what he should have and distanced herself. Even in his confessionals you can see how self conscious he is and how much how seemed to be overprojecting the perception of himself. The older women didn't go into this self conscious 'I'm older what an outcast that makes me' mode. He couldn't get out of his head enough to integrate himself and didn't know when to cut off Andy. He had a perfect excuse to rally the tribe behind. He could have left Andy on an island, and as volatile as his emotional state is it would be too easy to get him to one more meltdown. Game over then.

​@hauntedbottles The problem was that Anika suggested that they throw Jon's name out to try to throw Andy off. That was more than enough to make Jon try to mobilize. Should he have tried to isolate Andy? Given the lack of care towards dealing with the shock Andy wasn'texpecting to have, I'd say so. However, he was willing to look at another number and try to save himself from an obvious move It's making me think Aninka is going to try to be a little too cute with plays, and it'll probably cost her once she meets with any form of resistance

Preseason a lot of people weren’t liking Andy because he wasn’t smiling at them much so I think that preconception definitely played a role in how they felt about him. They already felt negatively about him so they were less likely to “cheer” for him.

Jake's strategy reminds me of Dr. Will's philosophy of make the target so big it's invisible. Just go off in front of everyone, and reveal at the end how intentional it all was

I'd say that Tiyana is more of a swing right now. TK and Gabe seem to be going at each other, and with Gabe having half the tribe and an idol, I think TK is the next to go on blue.

I get non political people not knowing Lovett but his podcasts are …big. And he was a speech writer for both Obama and Hilary. And was dating then engaged to Ronan Farrow when he was breaking the Me Too stories. Ronan asked him to marry him at the end of the book about it and mentioned him several times. Which is to say, while his popularity is somewhat niche, there’s no way he could have risked trying to pretend to be something else.

I don't think Lovett needed to hide who he was (and doubt he would've been able to anyway), but he maybe could've edited himself a bit re: the specific details he shared (speechwriter; name of his podcast; and especially *_asking if anyone had heard it_* ). Then again, I'm prone to blabbing/oversharing too so I noticed it even more than others may have.

Am I the only one that has ever listed to Pod Save America? They went on a live tour during the last presidential election. That said my brother who doesn’t watch survivor said John’s going to die when he heard he was going out there.😂😂 that said I think John got screwed. Hate to say this but I would have seen Andy as more of a liability and voted him out and maybe looks like from previews there are more issues with Andy.

I'm an avid listener of _Lovett or Leave It; Keep It; Pod Save the UK_ ; and many other shows on Crooked Media. Personally, I can't take Pod Save America itself. The 4 of them together - and especially any of the pods with Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer - lean a bit too self-indulgent/smart guy fratty for me.

I was hoping y'all would dissect that scene a bit more (9:30 - 10:15). Seemed like Aysha didn't really _volunteer_ but I wished she'd pushed back a little bit in the moment.

Unfortunately, there was so little in that clip to tell us exactly what happened there. Rome described it as her being the “volunteer” but… 🤷🏻‍♂️

As a fan of Why blank Lost, I'm gonna recommend Pod Save America to Jake, Jessica, and David! Lovett is great on it (as are Jon Favreau, Tommy, and David, and all their guests)
