To be honest, I think DARK Moon is a really good game. There are some things I hate, like how many times Egadd calls you, but this game was good I preferred over 3 because the 3rd just pretty much copied all of the neutral ghost, and only cared about the boss ghosts.

Yeah, but luigis mansion 3 was still a great game. Though I can see why. Dark Moons basic ghosts, The Greenies, Hiders, Slammers, Gobbers, Creepers, Sneakers, and Poltergeists were the peak of the basic ghost designs and each had a lot of love and comedy written into them. Luigis Mansion 3 had the best graphics and design no doubt and is one of the prettiest games on switch, and had some great bosses. Though most aren't on dark moons level... save for the main three that held toads. Polterkitty was a repeat of Polterpup in 2, and she worked as a nice foil to him the first time she stole a button. Though at least she only appears twice, compared to 2s three polterpup chases and actually puts up a fight. But she is nowhere on his iconic level...... he walked out of the park in 3. Plus, Dark Moon handles King Boo better than 3. The subtle-not so subtle clues of him there and dramatic irony worked well.... but I did love him in 3 just being outright done with the schemes and ready to end Luigi once and for all from the start. Though dark moon he had a better fight than 3, thiugh Hellen was fun as well and did put up a fun fight and her obsession with youth and her true appearance really did put her on an uncanny Mother Gothel/Yzma vibe level. Though I agree 2 did a lot of things better than 3, all in all.

I agree, especially because I find the five mansions more interesting than the hotel, King Boo felt like an actual threat and was a cool villain, the story was more interesting, the gameplay was a lot more solid and satisfying because the third game’s ghost slamming is pretty lame imo and takes away from the other 2 games satisfying gameplay with having to wrangle the ghosts to capture them. And I thought both the strobulb and the dark light were both welcome additions to the series that made the gameplay even more fun than before. And that why I prefer dark moon over the third game, it’s way more interesting and has better gameplay and a better combat system. It also has some really good puzzle solving too. Either way, I love all 3 of these games. Especially the first one

@@WailingGecko I've never played the first, but from the countless playthroughs it looks epic and definitely has the biggest scare factor, and King Boo in the first g a me is just so funny. A lot of people complain King Boo didn't get much screentime in the 3rd, but let's be honest he barely gets any in all 3, because in typical fashion, he just hides in the shadows. Though with the amount of cutscenes they gave Hellen in 3, I wish they would have done more with her, maybe they could have made Luigi fight King Boo and Hellen together, but what we got was okay... if not the lamest King boo fight in the seri3s. But regardless his character is just insanely comedic and down to earth for a Tyrant who wants to destroy everything. He's also a legitimate threat, being one of the only nintendo villains to be able to subdue Mario... and while 2 handled his threat level the best, he is still very much a threat in 1 and 3, especially in 3 where he's just done with everything and doesn't care if he loses as long as Luigi dies with him. I like how they handled him being a caring ruler to his boos and very protectiv3 over them and fellow ghosts and just seeing Luigi as a simple coward to him falling into madness and no longer caring about anything but getting his revenge on Luigi, no matter what happens to him or his subjects. King Boo is just one of the many reasons why I love this series

@@thegreenthunder2 Yeah, I mean I never said he wasn’t ever a threat in the third or first game game, I just felt like there should’ve been more than just “I got out and I’m capturing your friends” in the third one which is all that he really did till the final boss. And yeah I agree with the whole king boo screen time thing too, but I definitely think the third game could’ve benefited from a bit more scenes with king boo because there’s never really a goal he has in mind here aside from revenge and I definitely think with how they laid out the third game there wasn’t enough to show more of that with king boo and I think he could’ve benefited from having a couple more scenes atleast. In the second game We do see him destroy the dark moon in the beginning so we do know he’s here but we still see a goal set in mind and we do see how powerful he is especially when compared to the first game. And honestly, I think the third game is the weakest in the trilogy because of these issues alongside the other things I had mentioned in my comment because I feel like it tries to do too much to differentiate with the other two games and the ghost slamming is just nowhere near as satisfying as what the second and even the first game had. The second just made the combat even better to me not just because you still have to wrangle the ghosts and have it actually feel like your fighting against them, moving the stick in the opposite direction. But it’s just the fact that they added the strobulb which made stunning the ghosts a lot better and improved the combat here. And honestly I did like this video but I found the argument of dark moon being a bad sequel stupid because of how different it is from the original, and yes it has the mission structure but the mission structure is not that bad at all. There is still exploration within each of these mansions, and while it’s more linear I definitely think that it was used to its advantage. Look at Mario sunshine and the Galaxy games for example, they have the Star/shine missions that are separate but the area changes within each level. While not all missions in dark moon change for the mission, most do. And also the puzzle solving is definitely the best too and that’s because of the help from the linearity. Another thing is that 3 is still very different from the first even if it’s more open, its exploration is still different and the gameplay feels like it’s going against what the other two had/set up rather than continuing to have it, despite it being one of the defining and coolest features of the series. Basically all I’m trying to say is that I don’t think he can call dark moon a bad sequel without also calling the third game a bad sequel too.

As someone who grew up during the "dark time" for Nintendo, experiencing the entire life cycle of the Wii U, year of Luigi and of course, Dark Moon, I feel that this is a more subjective topic that boils down to: "Did you play Dark Moon before or after you played the first Luigi's Mansion?" When was younger, I ofc loved all Mario games, and with Luigi being my favorite character and seeing he got not just a new cool ghost game but also a whole YEAR for him, I was bound to enjoy it no matter the differences the sequel had with the first title. The mission mode didn't bother me because it gave me the an objective of where to go, and what to do. Simple for a younger audience. To this end I feel that no, Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon may have not been the best SEQUEL, but it certainly wasn't a bad game, because at the end of the day, the target audience wasn't old fans, it was children who love a goofy Luigi and silly ghosts; not to mention the main owners of 3DS's were expected to be children. Looking back, I have many fond memories of the game, and feelings that I had were brought back as I gleefully played Luigi's Mansion 3, and so I feel that even if it deferred from the more free and spooky theme of the first title, Dark Moon was still good enough to make stamp in the trilogy that paved for the 3rd game that took aspects from both of it's predecessors.

As a die hard fan of Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon... Yeah im not coping an 80$ (im canadian) remaster where the only difference is a visual upscale and nostalgia. I already play this game on my emulator and the resolution upscale along with a consistent (well at times stuttery) 60fps is more than enough to satisfy me. They would need to make some huge changes to get me to consider buying this game. But if you missed out on this game then yes this pretty much (hopefully) the best way to play it

I must respectfully disagree with your assessment. In my view, Luigi's Mansion 2 represents the pinnacle of Nintendo's gaming offerings. I believe your perspective, considering it a poor game, is a minority opinion. For many of us, Luigi's Mansion 2 was a defining childhood experience, and even after 11 years, it remains my favorite game. This was my first Luigi's mansion game. I've still never played the first, but when i saw this one in Gamestop back when it came out i had to play it! Sadly, i lost the game.... Twice (i got a 2nd copy and lost that one too 😭😅) I recently ordered the full game for like $25 since i still have my 3dsxl and i was never able to beat this game. It also gave me more reason, since I actually did complete Luigi's Mansion 3 on switch! When i heard they were porting over Dark Moon to switch i was so excited, but then realised the price would be $60 😅. I love this game, but if I'm able to get the original for half the price then I'm taking it lol.

Because it's not the specific gameplay style of Luigi's mansion THEY grew up with therefore it's BAD. Honestly, I will buy this game just to have this game on the Nintendo switch. I might buy a switch just to play this game again because I haven’t played it in a couple years, but I do remember enjoying the game. There was some annoying parts with the balancing thing and then the stupid clock tower boss fight that one was pretty annoying. The reason 2 is getting ported is due to game Engine and Gameplay similarities with 3, and development-wise, that's a lot easier to do. More people are familiar with 3, and how it works, and in-house, Next Level Games has the code-base, engine framework, etc to do a port of 2 a LOT easier than the first one. That requires going back to the drawing board a lot more. Its more resourceful for them, and from a business/branding perspective, it bounces off the 3rd game more easily.

I'd agree if the Luigi's Mansion 1 remake on the 3DS didn't exist, I believe that uses the same engine and if even if it didn't that could've been easily ported as well in a compilation title like pikmin 1+2

@@ThatGuyWhoGames Handheld 3DS development and Switch Nvidia chipset development are both really different. I can see how that assumption would be made, but, both are completely different architectures that require completely different methods of developing for/with them. Most likely, coming from a devs perspective, it was easier for them to just use the 3 Engine that had a lot of the similar looking and feeling movement code, Strobulb, aiming, etc player kit code already established. Lots of the models look touched up or re done from the 3DS, but, art assets kind of work like that, those can be carried over, code sometimes depending on how different a platform was cannot. What determines things/can be a big factor in deciding what gets ported more is the code and functions of the game under the hood. In this case, using the 3 Engine on the Switch to port a game that has similar gameplay and functions built is just more resourceful to do for them. Not saying they couldn't have done a port/remaster of 1. But, most likely, they didn't have access to Grezzos source code of the 3DS remake. Both Dark Moon and the remake of 1 were built on different engines. Also, since, Next Level is a different studio and they already have the experience making this style of Luigi's Mansion and we're just told to make something that fits the brand a lot more in today's market for the Mario brand. That and 4 has reportedly been in development for a while, probably building off 3. Idk, they just seem not too concerned with that first game which does suck. Also keep in mind, I'm just giving you an educated answer/guess from the perspective of someone who's made games, and understands a lot of how things could potentially go behind the scenes. We really won't know a lot of the decisions behind the remaster until the games in its marketing phase and we get some interviews about why the decision to port 2 over 1 was made. Sorry for the long reply, but yeah, to summarize, probably done because development wise it's a lot easier for Next Level to do. Lots of art assets can be redone, and the code base for the gameplay and systems are already in place. Business wise, it's a game that'll fit the modern Mario brand well. I want the 1 remaster on Switch myself tho, lol. Next console hopefully, lol.

The idea that the only visual upgrade to Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is the resolution is blatantly incorrect. You can clearly see that Luigi's character model has more polygons and more detailed textures, and the environments also are clearly more detailed in terms of textures and more polygons in various areas. The Switch version clearly is a massive visual improvement over the original 3DS version and if you look at comparison videos between the two it is very apparent.

Additionally, if you look at some scenes from the trailers compared to the 3DS version, some of Luigi's animations and facial expressions are completely redone. Videos like GameXplain have documented this. This is not a lazy visual upgrade, it is actually very well done.

As someone who loves Dark Moon, the $60 price tag is doubly baffling. Not only is it the least popular game in the series, but if they had just done this with Luigi's Mansion 1 (even the 3DS remake version) instead, it would probably sell similarly and have the same positive fan press to what Thousand Year Door is getting. Seriously, if they just did this with the 3DS version of 1 it would be the same amount of work for WAY more profit. Personally I wouldn't get either for $60, but I'd get both for $40 a pop like the Prime remaster.

Not gonna lie I love this game, but to be honest it is heavily bias. It was one of the 4 games I had on my 3DS and despite all of its mediocrity, I really loved it and I am looking heavily forward to the remaster. By the way I like your content, keep up the good work!

I personally think the mission based style of this game doesn’t hinder the exploration at all because of the side objectives like the boos, the gems to collect for each mansion, and just collecting money and vacuuming everything you see and in addition to that you also get the dark light device so now you gotta shine it in every room cause you don’t know what’s gonna be invisible

I’m honestly really glad this is coming, I never played through Luigi’s Mansion 2 so it getting a re-release is great. The price however is not great and I wish they also included the first game.

Never seen a more dishonest and unprofessional take on a game remaster before. Take one side by side glance at the two games next to each other and you can tell that every single asset, texture, and material have been completely remade from the ground up with additional improvements to things like lighting and water effects. Game definitely will not be worth $60, but to act like it was cheaply made with no care is a fucking lie. You don't disservice Grezzo like that.
