However, when he made controversial statements promoting communism, a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Government of Pakistan. There, his neighbours included Gulzar, a poet and lyricist and Krishan Chander, an Urdu litterateur. Many people rightfully object that this title is misleading. Here's what I heard is the reason. Sahir didn't have freedom of speech in Pakistan and he was missing his non-Muslim friends in India. I love his poetry and happen to study at the same college Govt College Ludhiana.

Sahir Ludhiyanvi and his mother had to escape from Pakistan to India to keep their lives alive as they had settled down in pre-independent Pakistan province but after the independence he had to face death threats for his leftist thinking and writing. He was a true humanist and his leftist thoughts and writing articles for an Urdu magazine cost his life dearly by the fundamentalists and we all would have lost a great poet from writing meaningful lyrics for us to listen even in this year 2018. There are only four poets/lyricists of his kind in India who wrote stunning songs inspiring human beings to revolt against suppression and superstition are Sahir Ludhiyanvi from north, Sri Sri from Andhra, Kannadasan from Tamil Nadu & Vayalar Ramavarma from Kerala!
