Okey guys this video is for KIDS. It's paraphrased and cartoony on purpose. So pipe down with all the criticisms. Nothing is incorrect; there are many different traditions and variations of this story.

Well this Hawaiian version is much more little kid friendly than our New Zealand version where Maui and his brothers beat up the sun so badly in a group attack, the sun is forced to hobble crippled for eternity across the sky. It is so nice however I wonder if this Hawaiian version of the Maui and the sun is the original Hawaiian version.

Rachael Bean Maui is the most cultural exchanges story in Polynesian culture so, who really knows who made it first 🤷🏼♀️ (but ps we Hawaiians made em first XD nah nah jk 😉)

I can't say that i know if this is the original version but i'm confident in saying many versions are incorrect and the reason why i say that is because whenever you pass down knowledge and stories orally from generation to generation the stories will naturally become a variant of the original version... with that being said its safe to say that most of our stories will definitely not be 100% accurate from its original stories and/or past events.
@mayfrasonsier4 жыл бұрын
The story of Maui goes back further than Polynesia. He's technically an Oceanic hero, seeing that both Polynesia and Micronesia each have many different versions of the same stories. I noticed the three most prevalent recurring themes are Maui's adversity at birth, Maui's stealing/acquisition of the secret of fire, and Maui's pulling up the islands.

I heard that in some versions Māui has to see his grandmother to get what he needs to snare the sun. Māui needed to make sixteen snares, one for each of the flaming tendrils of Kalā. The snares needed to be made out of the hair of his sister, which kept it from burning. Does anyone know where I can find the entire story (mele) of Māui and Haleakalā?

No kidding Out of all the other animals he could have turned into. A rooster 🐓? Why couldn't they have him turn into the eagle first for transportation; that way he could've flew faster and effortlessly, then still at least have some energy left Then the rooster call to wake up Kala; that would've been smart Hard work is still ok But work smarter not harder

Because it's not...the sun is in the sky above us that's why we see it...these stories is more proof..same as the Greek story about icarus who flew to close to the sun and It melted the wax that kept the feather in place...he would have to fly 93 million miles away to get so close to the sun. But ofcourse anyone with eyes to see knows that the sun is above us...we would never see the sun at 93 million miles away no matter how big...but the masses have been tricked and dumb down by science Nasa textbooks school and the media.
