Such a short sighted view in my opinion...i mean are you even aware Malaysian Armed Forces current combat capabilities are inadequate to even protect itself?Look at the Navy and Air Force how pathetic it is now with inadequate fighter jets and some ships are getting older and some lacking missile capabilities some are not even have one although it waa supposed to such as the Kedah Kelas which supposed to have anti ship missiles and air defence missiles which at the time this comment was wrtitten there's still none onboard all of the Kedah class...then there's the topic of air defence systems which practically almost useless to face any high altitude jets,planes or incoming ballistic missiles..Yes Malaysia have none of that which means intruding aircraft can come and go as they please...which is a shame really because neighbouring ASEAN countries all have potent air defence nowadays minus Malaysia of course.. That's loads of crap...we are not protected by anyone .If you refering to the FPDA its an agreement where the signatories aren't necessarily have to oblige to help if one member is attacked by a foreign power but are allowed to if necessary. The first priority of any government is to root out corruption. Seriously, and genuinely, not like how some countries use "anti-corruption" to persecute their political rivals and secure power. Malaysia can be strong (it has been in the past), but corruption, in all aspect of the government, not just the military, has weakened it. Hopefully, the Anwar government will do Malaysia right.

Malaysia had a very strong military with huge budget but they have smartly channeled most of the defence budget for development and reduce the military spending. Malaysia has taken a tactical approach to weigh in the new world order and take advantage of the UN existence. In case of any invasion of Malaysia, UN will interfere and kick the invaders out as what happened to Iraq during the Kuwait invasion. As such spending for defence is a total waste of tax payers money.

What’s better than asking for UN interference, which is laughable already. Deterrence is better than that. Asking for help means you’re already suffering an attack which cost human lives and money, to rebuild etc… but DETERRENCE avoids all of that.

Although corruption is the main cause for the weaken defense ability and capability of Malaysia, but still the major issue lies in allocated budget per year for the defense sector to spend. Yearly, Malaysia only averagely allocated its 1-2% of GDP for defense spending/expenditure, that’s roughly a RM2 billions. What can one expect to buy or purchase with such pocket money 💰 for a year? 😂 For all the past decades, Malaysia never prioritized or focused on its defense sector as a whole, Malaysia would rather spend or allocate budgets on other stuffs and make defense the least important thing to be concerned about. And general Malaysian public doesn’t care much about our own military or defense strength as well. That’s why it leads to a lot of problem, scandal, corruption and mismanagement to occur in the first place. One thing leads to another. Also due to the past government weak leadership in governance. Since Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim took office until now and into the near future, things would have changed to be better than previously, at least.
