Fantastic sermon. The turning point in my marriage was when I went to counseling on the counselor told me straight up, I'm selfish, and had very poor listening skills and no empathy for what my wife was trying to tell me. I've done a lot of work for 25 years and our marriage is fantastic

Impressive. I cannot find a godly counselor that doesn’t encourage divorce. I’d like to solve our problems not escape them. You must be a humble man to take criticism like that and learn from it and change.

I'm 56 and never been married. For most of my life, I desperately wanted someone to love me unconditionally. Once I was finally saved in 8/2017, I no longer wanted/needed to get married. I saw Him as my Bridegroom who is looking for The Wise Virgins, the small Remnant who are on The Narrow Road. Now I can appreciate how Paul said it's better not to marry, so that we can completely give our attention to soul winning and not worry about getting home to make dinner.

“I love you but I can live without you.” What a wonderful romantic statement; I’m sure my spouse would be thrilled to hear me say that to her.

My husband told me that he loved me and he could live without me. It broke my heart. So I told him, I would like to be with someone who says and lives by, I love you, and I don't want to live without you; I could certainly go on without you, but I don't want too. I'm trying to break myself of needing someone eles so badly to tell me my worth and it's been really hard because I've been rejected in all areas of my life since I was a kid.

@@vanessarenae5169 I'm saddened to hear that, Vanessa. We all need positive social interaction and a significant other who values us. Part of our wedding vow to love our partner is to protect them emotionally as well as physically treating them well. I guess if you can't find emotional support in your husband, you'll have to depend on girlfriends and to pray a lot about your situation, trying to find solace in your faith in God.

People will fail you at some point everytime and without exception and this happens because we live in a fallen world one in which sin has entered and become intertwined with our DNA making the first man and woman fallible and all his and her offspring inherent this condition so we should place our trust in the only one who is infallible and without fault, Jesus! He will never let you down and he will show how to love someone who you believe unlovable, yourself. ......and then he will show you how to love with the same love he loved you with. This is marriage and it is a type and shadow.

I believe the whole point of this is the wisdom and understanding is that your purpose doesn't come from your spouse, your happiness doesnt come from them it comes from God, so you don't need your spouses because you have God. The most important command that Jesus gave us is to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and love yourself and then Love others. Love God, then others

Awesome message True True True Jesus is all we need, we should never expect loved ones to be Jesus for us because all men and women are liars and we all let people down. God is not a man that He should lie.
@paulcohen6727 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know how others feel but for me, acceptance, identity, security and purpose in Jesus were not enough for me; I didn’t feel completely happy until he gave me a spouse and I found those things in a more tangible way in my marriage. If marriage was not good then God would not have given it to us. We aren’t disembodied spirits; in addition to a trusting relationship with our God but I think most of us also need the emotional and physical fulfillment found in a caring marriage relationship to be complete. And I found that I’m happiest now that I’m married. Trusting God is important but that alone left me feeling empty a lot of the time.

Where does it say that the woman at the well left her husbands?! Not sure women had that kind of independence then. I get your point, but does the Bible say this?

How does he know the Samaritan woman's situation? Dude, go back and read your bible again because God told you not to judge. Show me where it says that she divorced all those husbands, or that she "shacked up" with the last one? You don't have a clue about how divorce and remarriage worked back then. It's likely she was married to that last one, but she wasn't privileged with the status of "wife" because the man had 10 other wives before her, or because she had been married previously. And divorce was usually initiated by the men and not even allowed for women most of the time. Not to mention, all the crusty old men marrying young girls and then croaking... or all the husbands dying in wars... I bet this guy also thinks that David and Bathsheba had an "affair".
@sramirez777 Жыл бұрын
Please read the Deuteronomy 24. From there read, jump over to Matthew 19. In the chapter, the Pharisees challenge Jesus (similar to what you’re doing) to explain why Moses allowed divorce. Jesus’ response, “because the hardness of your (men) hearts.” Men were harsh to their women back then and were allowed to divorce them for any little thing. Moses acknowledged how harsh men were their wives; wives found it difficult to trust again. Instead, they would live with men and not commit to marriage. One thing is to listen to a video and criticize it and another is to do your due diligence. Hope that helps. P.s. having a relationship outside your marriage is considered an affair (king David)
@axeldaxelMVM Жыл бұрын
@@sramirez777 How do you know that it was common practice for women in that time period to live with men and not commit to marriage? What's your source for that? Women generally wanted to be married because being someone's wife had social and legal benefits. A widowed wife and her "legitimate" children were more secure after the man's death than a girlfriend and her "bastard" children. Things like "true love" and "trust" and "knucklehead" behavior were not as relevant to people in that time and place, unfortunately. Re: King David. Nathan told him he stole someone's pet lamb and killed it and ate it. Does that sound like a "relationship" to you?

I am with you in that there are some assumptions made as to the circumstances of her situation. The woman and Jesus both state that the man she was living with was not her husband John 4:17-18 but we do not know how her previous 5 marriages ended. Also, 1 Sam 13:14 says the Lord sought after a man after his own heart and appointed him as ruler, and this was David. I did go read the Word to double check because I was curious enough to go beyond how you were coming across to the OP. I just think we need to hear the importance behind the message that possibly has some unnecessary details added to it. It says they will know us by our love, not by us trying to call each other out😊
@axeldaxelMVM11 ай бұрын
@@kallaharris4024 Do you realize that the woman at the well was the world's first evangelist? But she is always reduced to her marital status. Jesus told her something about herself that no stranger should have known, and she realized that He was "a prophet" (God, actually). And then they go on to talk about spiritual things. It's a mistake to turn this into a marriage counseling story. She went home and spread the good news, the gospel, to her whole village, and she was the very first person to do so. When the Bible said that David was after God's own heart, he was a young shepherd boy, not yet a man or a king. In 1 Samuel 8:18-22, Samuel warns Israel against setting up a monarchy, but they didn't listen. David saved Israel and was loved by the people, but as time went on, he became corrupt, selfish, and lazy. So I cringe when people talk about how virtuous he was. One of the results of this skewed view is that most people don't understand the violence he did, not only to Uriah, but also to Bathsheba. People assume they had an affair, and even go so far as to blame *her* for David's downfall. Reading the story more carefully, it's clear that's not what happened. Women's stories aren't told very often in the Bible, but even when they are, people come up with ways to twist their stories around and accuse them of things they haven't done. It's wrong and it needs to stop.

I kind of disagree bcs I can't expect the physical fulfillment from Jesus that only a human wife can give. And when she won't or loses desire for various reasons then what???? I have to be frustrated for nearly 30 years bcs all she wants is security???
