Why Meditation Is Not Working For Me - Recently, I received a comment from someone who was wondering: "Why meditation is not working". In today's video, I explore another meditation technique, called mindfulness of the body and also share my own experience very similar to the one this person is having. I share also why meditation is important to me and how it helps me.

Bhikkhu Mangalo wrote "Without at least a good foundationon a moral attitude to life, meditation is being built on sand".Though, meditation is not necessarily tied to Buddhims or any religion, Buddha taught three major practices (1) Moral Conduct; (2) Concentration; (3) Wisdom. So, in order to practice Concentration (Meditation) successfully, one needs to practice Moral Conduct first. Moral Conduct is a prerequisite for Meditation. Buddhists' five precepts are the teachings on Moral Conduct. After consistenly practicing Moral Conduct for few months, then the Buddhists will be sucessfually meditate with some effort. If Meditation does not work for some one, please, check your practicing of Moral Conduct. Fulfill the prerequisite Moral Conduct first, then Meditation will follow easily.

Thankyou for showing different techniques I’ve been struggling with muddled mind and I think focusing on not pushing away uncomfortableness and focusing on body other than mind is very helpful for me !

i've noticed this. i feel as if i'm not making progress, so i stop meditating and immediately feel more stressed! meditation does work but its effects take time to appear i suppose

Yes, sometimes, the benefits of meditation are not obvious but thx for meditation, sometimes we get to understand little things about ourselves or about our daily life from which big changes can start. A friend who started meditation simply realized how stressed she was because up until then she never experienced another way of being. Anyways, glad you're back in the practice Vicky. If you only practice mindfulness on the cushion, it will mostly help you on the cushion! :D I consider work, painful moments, driving, etc, all opportunities to practice mindfulness.

Hi I hope you gave me answer. After practising different type of meditation finally I realised watching breath only good for me but even trying many days I may not found my breath where it is going in and out? Please reply

Hello Thulasi. I can tell you what works for me and let me know if this helps you or not. When I start my meditation, I bring my attention to my nose and try noticing the air coming in and out. Then, I follow the air as it comes in, going through my chest, down into my belly and then back out. Sometimes, we are dissociated with our body and we may not feel it like i describe it. But can you feel the air going through your nose?

@@thulasir20 Yes most of the time we are not aware of our breathing and that's exactly what we train when we meditate. To maintain our mindfulness on our breathing is simple but not easy at all. We can start noticing our toughts drifting in the past or future and realize we spend more time somewhere else than the present moment. So keep it up, keep practicing and you'll strengthen your ability to stay in the present.

This is my day 6 of meditation , what I felt is calm slowly become less anger, react to things in calm even it's trouble, Is that good sign ?

It is a good sign! So keep it up! Meditation can help us become aware of our emotions and take care of them. However, becoming peaceful may be the first reason why we meditate but it is not necessarily the goal of meditation. The goal of meditation is to simply become aware of what is happening within us and around us, to untangle us from our thoughts and emotions. So sometimes, you may feel peaceful and relax which is great, and some days you may not feel this way and will wonder, why is that, why isn't meditation not working? But remember at that time that meditation is to simply observe, observe your anger for example, without feeding it thoughts ... So although it is great that you feel this way today which is a GOOD sign, don't be attached to it, don't expect to feel this way each time you meditation. Meditation has its ups and downs ... So just be open to whatever arises when you meditate. Does it make sense?

No matter how meditate I can't stop doing bad things. I did help me from overthing but cant stop doing weird things 😧😧😧

What do you mean by weird things? It's true that meditation is sometimes not enough to realign our life and actions. I have used the 5 mindfulness trainings to guide me the past few years on what to do and what not to do... Maybe I should share about it in one video so you can learn about those and see if they'd be useful to you. It's not a prescription of dos and donts, more like a guideline or a set of trainings I practice with that derive from the wisdom of mindfulness and meditation and apply to our daily life.
