I've always held the belief that while some enemies may be subjectively worse, Li'l Doge is objectively the worst enemy in the game for the reasons you mentioned. With enemies that are traditionally seen as "annoying" like R. Ost, Professor A, and Winged Pigge, at least all of those enemies have consistent counter play. With Li'l Doge? 20% chance that you just lose your run because the dodge keeps procing and the strong support is just free to push without you having the chance to stop it. Just as Warp is only Balanced on enemies, Dodge is only Balanced on units and yet Li'l Doge decides to break the mold anyways.

This would make it better, however high damaging critters like manic island should either have a super high pity or maybe not have one at all because you do need to keep in mind that critting also doubles the damage dealt. With that said, i think that they should just add a new enemy type similar to cyclones (a bunch of enemies that share a similarity and all have a stage that appears on certain days of each month, and as a reward they give units that share similarities [for example the cyclones all give anti metals]), with the unit characteristic being just having a chance to deal some damage to metals (one might have a 60% chance to deal 10 dmg to metals, another may have a 5% chance to deal 5000 dmg to metals)

First of all I would like to thank all of you for your support on the video, it really means a lot to me. Next, I admit that metals can be annoying sometimes. it is very frustrating when you want to clear a metal stage but your units aren't critting due to sheer luck. But I have never lost a stage from this (except for Proving Grounds and Clash of Steel). My main goal was to stop people from overrating the difficulty of metals. Metal killer is a step in the right direction. An issue with metals was always balancing because of how their main method of being defeated with crits. You can't have high attack units with high critrates without some major drawback (e.g soba's long TBA and foreswing) because that would mean PONOS needs to introduce higher HP metals which reinforces the need for critical hit units, on the other hand giving units with low attack critical hits means this will usually make them hyperspecialized in just metals since their attack can't be high enough for generalist purposes due the low average of metal HP. While ponos has attempted to balance this in the past (e.g units like camera with high attack but low crit chance, crit combos, waterblast piercing metal hp), this usually fell short or just ended up not being practical enough to be reliable. Metal killer as an ability means that it can be given to units without bottle-necking their overall performance outside of metals since metal killer deals % of current enemy health rather than their own attack power and hence not lead to the issue where there will be an arms race with higher and higher hp metals being introduced to keep up with high attack critters. It also gives more value to low attack critters due metal killer using current metal hp meaning the lower the enemy hp, the lower the effect of metal killer will be but lower enemy hp also means that the damage needed to finish an enemy off is much lower and hence low attack high crit chance units can step in to finish the job. Overall i would like PONOS to reintroduce metals with the metal killer ability being distributed to units since i think it fixes a lot of issues with balancing metal enemies in general

what people hate about metals is that if a unit doesn't have guaranteed crits the unit might act in 3 ways: do their job quickly and you win (yay) ,not crit at all resulting in your death due to their high pushing power in mixed stages(fuck rng) ,crit peons then die(ugh) the one time metals are semi-fair is when they're by themselves as the debuffers you get for em have no range and yes I know the rush thing but people that don't like watching yt vids might not figure that out

Hear me out. A new set of stages where metal units have been upgraded with Alien technology, thanks to a genius scientist. (Barriers) The Aliens even took Zombies and gave them metal typing as well. These enemies come with 2 sets of HP. Must take crit damage first, then regular damage. You fight the scientist by the end and acquire him as a unit because he’s interested in the Cat Army Bun Bun. Receives Talents

A way you could fix dodge on the enemy’s side is making it dodge for only certain rarities like lil doge could just dodge specials, Ubers, and legends but at a higher rate. This would encourage more usages for different units so you wouldn’t just be able to use powers units to shred the stage.

I am actually not kidding when I say the two hardest stages I have ever played in all of battle cats are ironsand beach and collapse checker three star. The reason for this is because conventional strategies like the rush or stacking wavers is removed as an option because the metal enemies push hard enough to kill your stack/baha. No other levels I have ever played gave me so much trouble or stress. The problem is not even the level design here, I could easily counter the stage if I could land a crit for the life of me. And no, cc units don't work either, because they also rely on rng, meaning that they will fail.

I think my hate for metals was cemented in Daboos return stage i spent like 10 leaderships trying to beat it and I still had to give up mainly, I think I just hate RNG in general, since its difficult to get consistent critters where I am in the game, and I havent been lucky enough to get any good anti-metal ubers to help and ever since one specific rng riddled grind (that im still not done with) has made me despise anything thats rng

Fun fact: Metal enemies are based off of enemies from the Dragon Quest series and was even in the original game from 1986. Metal slimes Just like in Battle Cats the enemies take 1 damage unless you crit. They drop HUGE amounts of exp and were hard to find. If you didn’t crit them in time they would run away from battle.😢

Metals are annoying Because they rely on too much luck Getting those crits can really suck and a lot of times you lose on metals stages not bc of a skill issue But simply out of luck While yes, there are plenty of good metal CC a lot of it is single target Making crowds harder to deal with Take Daboo's Revenge Stage The main reason is so hated and annoying is because you got a strong backliner with METAL support Not to mention metal enemies on mixed stages Very rarely you will encounter a metal enemy and not have to bring a crit unit While yea you can say that for a lot of enemies But metals are different One thing is to forget bringing iCat for a Bore but you can still kill it eventually While forgeting Catasaurus for a SMH means instant death, basically

Id bet most of the hate for March to Death comes from OG players like me who had to beat it before Crit Combos or Catasaurus talents and who haven't made a new account in ages and thus never had to redo it again with all the new toys we have. March to Death is like Darkweb or Floor 30, now days its a complete joke but back then with no ubers they did earn their reputation. (Also shoutout to anyone else who played when Subterranean Stalker got in Chillhola's video on Battle Cat's hardest stages)

I know I sound like an old man but the 2012-2019 era of battle cats was the best part, there was much less powercreep than there is now, which is what I think kind of ruined the game (I still play it after 10 years lol)

@@sparchamp2 I'm half with you, I still do play it and I do like the quality of life features and the amount of content too look forward too. but I have to put in place bans and limits for unit levels due to how OP some are. I tried to start a third account since I'm on my second after losing my first but the treasure grind and base material grind is too much of a hurdle to go through for a third time.

However the big change that’s what I think made me hate battle cats was the limit on how many ads you could watch for catfood. New players have no idea how depressing that was. (I still like battle cats though don’t get me wrong, however it’s not as perfect and amazing as it used to be is what I’m saying)

To anyone struggling with random weak metal peons: USE CAT RESEARCHER. Catasaurus is only useful in pure metal stages. Cat Researcher is faster, has way higher range, is cheap and has about 12,8% chance to get a crit EVERY SECOND.

Pure metal stages are a joke (Unless your ManicKingDragonStack), a few big metals can be a problem but random high percent metal doges when you can't afford any slots on Catasaurus and even if you could there is no way to justify it so you just have to hope Can Can doesn't hit them are a pain.

It's not about whether they're unfair or annoying, Metal enemies are poorly designed period. Battle Cats is all about variety of strategy, but Metal sees that and laughs in its face. Just for a moment, imagine Razorback: an enemy that can only be defeated if you bring a specific unit that is hyper-specialized to counter him. There's no strategy or depth here, it's just "bring key to lock, ka-ching door opens". Most anti-metals and critters are hyper-specialized to only deal with Metal enemies, and that's really stupid as it means their only purpose is to deal with this specific trait and be useless against everything else. Actually, that's why Behemoths are garbage. A slew of Behemoth Slayers specially designed to be the key to the lock that is Behemoths. The strategy just boils down to "bring this unit, spawn it, win button". In concept, Metal enemies are a good idea: a type of enemy that suggests you bring fast-attacking units to wear down their health quickly. Except that's not the case and the only Metals which are like that are Metal Hippoe, Croconator and Koronium, and the rest all require you bring these specific units or die. Metal Doge is actually the worst offender, since he is spammed and your only counters to Metal Doge are anti-Metal cc and Catyphoon/Catasaurus. At least with SMH and SMS you kill them and then you're done, with Metal Doge he keeps on spawning and has way too much health to be chipped down through non-critter means. Just because in all instances of an annoying enemy appearing you can either rush the stage/enemy or their support sucks, doesn't make it any less poorly designed. Pterowl Hazuku is an example of this, once I saw someone proudly proclaim he is not annoying because in every stage he is in, he can either be rushed or has pathetic support. Does it make him a good enemy? No! It's actually a bad sign, since it means this enemy has way-too-strong synergy with other enemies that the only way to fight it is not to fight it. Hazuku is a poorly designed enemy with far-too inflated stats and way too few weaknesses. Let me propose a group of "annoying" enemies that are actually well-designed: the Traitless LD gang. You know what I'm talking about - Mr. Mole, Henry, Dolphina and Croakley. These enemies are well-designed because although they are really deadly and have terrifying synergy with many other enemies, they can be fought in non-cheesy ways and do not REQUIRE specific units to counter them. 1. Mr. Mole Giant LD range with hard-to-reach blindspot and oppressive attack rate coupled with knockback. This enemy discourages ranged unit stacking and encourages rushing or usage of LD, Wave and Surge to knock it back. 2. Henry Giant LD range that cripples backliners not with damage but a near-permanent freeze. This enemy discourages usage of ranged units like Cyberpunk, and encourages luring to more easily time units. Note that although freeze-immune units are a great pick, they are never REQUIRED. There is always a reasonable way to play around him without usage of Freeze immune units. 3. Dolphina Uses meatshields as a stepping stone to snipe your backliners. Encourages usage of rushers and midrangers to constantly bully her with her interruptable foreswing and high kb count. Note that there are many strategies to deal with Dolphina: you can use midrangers or Courier to interrupt her in NRF, Cyberstack from a safe distance in MalJamiera, rush her with ABahamut, or use Hitman Cat in some stages. 4. Croakley Very lengthy LD that discourages usage of Cyberpunk and encourages either timing fast units or luring to time units easier. Note that although he discourages Cyberpunk, he does not INVALIDATE Cyberpunk. With clever manipulation of frontline enemies, Cyberpunk can still be safely used. Note the variety of strategies seen here, that is good enemy design and allows for freedom of player expression. This is why Razorback, Metal enemies, Behemoths and Soractes are garbage enemies. There is one rigid "strategy" you MUST follow, or you die. Half of the fun in Battle Cats comes from execution of strategies and wiping out enemies, but the other half of the fun comes from making a strategy in the first place.

Really good vid! Honestly I agree I don't get the hate for metals. Majority of metal stages just melts from hoop+puppet+critters and Soba who doesn't require RNG has incredible damage that you can essentially take out the luck factor with her. Surge Base is honestly such an odd thing to exist, i probably wouldn't mind the damage as much were it not because of it's terribly massive range and crazy RNG spawn. If the area of spawn is a bit more focused, that would've been fine, but there's so much stages where you'd just be on the mercy of surge spawn location and it's incredibly frustrating. No need to say anything about lil doge we all hate the guy I think bit of input too for the video is that I wish you put the footage of stages you're talking in the background more often, or at the very least show the enemy list if you're just mentioning it for a bit. You did do it for the most part but there's a couple of times you didn't and I think a visual reminder of what the stage is like (or to introduce the stage to those who are unfamiliar) would be helpful Great video though!

thank you for the feedback! collecting video footage is time consuming and i don't have much time to make videos, so my newest video is kind of low effort. but i'll definitely put in more effort for my later videos also i made this video with imovie which is really annoying to use so i didn't do much editing in this one

Good video. Yes, metal enemies aren't actually that annoying. Cyclone units just completely dismatle the trait. In fact, I wanted to make a March to death guide just because so many people complained about it, even though it is not that bad (Yes, I did play the stage. The stage is mostly about timing and territory control and not rng. I beat the stage with cameraman solo (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJzHZ5aBlst7jbMsi=-S4jXpY-eyqMzMFW), who has 4% crit rate with combos). Metals are only annoying when supported by other strong, non metal enemies. Also the metal with the highest hp is 200% metal cyclone in HT38. I can't comment on Surge Base because I haven't seen it. Hazuku is terrible. The things said in the video matches my comments. Socrates, yeah he needs big damage nerf. I mean like half the attack, so he could actually have interesting support. Li'l doge. Objectively the worst enemy in the game. Following is miku doge due to being a collab enemy. Dodge is not balanced for enemies at all. The rest are the comments are the same as the video.
