55:50 why the sudden cut?. Following the conversation (not much was cut): "... and they produce a huge amount of stable clean power, its like kind of an awesome deal, again this is finally, uhmm... you know, nuclear.... america has been very well behind a new nuclear technology, we have I believe the most nuclear power plants but hey are all built in the 70's and 80's and we haven't build any new ones. All the new ones, under construction and planned (refer to image on 55:52) come from China in red or Russia in light red, or other that is like India. Ehhmm ... notice there is NOOO Deep blue on this chart (refering to planned under conventional section of the image), AMERICA IS NOT BUILDING ANY. However, thanks to people like google we are at least seeing a huge rise on the Smal modular (again refer to iamage) nuclear energy, so its a way ... (here the video continues)

@AtriocVODs I feel dirty for even suggesting this, but would it be legal and profitable to find a way to convert the RedBoxes into a vending machine / return receptacle for lottery tickets? You could adapt the intake port thing for taking those cards with minimal effort, it asks for a payment mechanism already, it could take the tickets and then them potentially, eliminating a duty of the cashier, and the locations are already prime for this purpose.

The Redbox stuff is really idiotic. Turn them off, empty them out. Done. At least nobody will try and break in AND they don't consume anymore energy. It takes literally half an hour.

Please for the love of god actually learn some non industry talking points about nuke power and what the actual things are. Yeah the plant itself is a small amount of space, but that doesn't account for waste. My family lived near 3 mile island (grand parents and extended fam) nearly all of them have or have died from cancer or weird tumors. There is also the problem of the plants being run for profit and we all know how that goes in any industry, oh I can slack on this safety thing to make more money? Skip this software update? fire these people? If a solar or wind farm is damaged from a natural disaster there is lose of power and resource from it being destroyed, Nuke Plant in same situation of damage? all those things + a fuck ton of radiation. Yeah it -could- be ok or you know it could be another fukushima, or chernobyl. Also do we really need more refined uranium for weapons?

Pretty disapointed On the nuclear energy section. The main concern isn't safety (you are much more at health risk living next to a coal plant conpared to nuclear power plant) it is cost plus how long it takes to build these reactors. You can't discuss why nuclear power is the best energy source while only mentioning the major downsides offhandedly. Pretty weak argument. Wish big A would give a more critical pros v cons for energy sources because it is a legitimately interesting topic.

nuclear energy is very expensive to set up and will only delay the transition to renewable. Sure, once we get renewables going we can transition to nuclear, but trying to do it off the bat only keeps fossil fuels around longer At least where I live in Australia

I mean Chernobyl at the lowest estimate is still killing 4,000 according to the un or if you look at the highest estimates another 90,000 will die from cancers and the like from Chernobyl. I am a nuclear fan but I don’t think the dangers are completely over stated

@nebula4133Ай бұрын
the technology used in the chernobyl power plant did not have the safe guards that are common place now. A chernobyl sized event is almost an impossibility.
@raininglaser5695Ай бұрын
Yes, Chernobyl was a massive disaster, but can you name any other nuclear reactor disaster that killed more than 10 people? Chernobyl happened when nuclear was first being developed where the was MUCH less security around it. Add to that idiotic Soviet engineering, user error, and management oversight. Now, nuclear is the most regulated energy source, and if you study the engineering behind the reactors including all of the many safeguards, there is probably a better chance of getting struck by lightning many times than another nuclear meltdown on the scale of anything more than 3-mile island. In fact, more people die each year from the radiation from coal smoke then people have died period due to nuclear fission (including Hiroshima and Nagasaki). Also, nuclear doesn’t really even make much waste. All of the “nuclear waste” can be reenriched and reused to get more energy out of it rather than just damaging ecosystems. Waste from solar energy is much more damaging to ecosystems. Same with wind or other forms of renewable energy. People just need to do some quick research to realize that nuclear is actually much safer and cleaner than society thinks.
@sgrube2Ай бұрын
@@raininglaser5695 I agree we are too afraid of it I guess my point was just there is a chance for it to go really wrong. I didn’t know about solar energy waste that’s interesting, and yeah a lot of Chernobyl was totally avoidable error I guess it’s just a little scary still

Crazy how big A can just casually say Nintendo is doing the right thing "for once" at 1:13:29 . Nintendo is like one of the best companies of all times in terms of marketing and product innovation and IP cultivation. They made one really really bad misstep in 2012 and, while I agree it was a huge oof, to say they haven't made any good decisions since then is just wrong XD I guess it goes to show how hard it is to build a legacy and how easy it is to ruin it
