U can’t say someone strong based on hype or who they fought, if that was the case people like Buggy would be a God Character with all advanced Haki because he was on Roger’s crew and can effortlessly beat Mihawk and any swordsman making him the strongest swordsman because he uses daggers and since Mihawk can’t do anything to kill him with his sword he can’t beat him meaning buggy wins. @@lewondder I think we are not getting each other, 1. Haki (including conquerors haki) does not act in solitude. You need to infuse it with your fist or kicks or bullets or your blade/sword. Haki is a force multiplier and if Shanks has the greater conquerors Haki then his slashes should be the strongest, there in a fight between him and Mihawk he should with and therefore making him the strongest swordsman but he is not. 2. if using Conquerors haki separates you from being a swordsman than Fujitora should not be swordsman because he pulls meteors of space, Cabaji shouldn't be a swordsman because he uses circus tricks, Kaku shouldn't be swordsman because he uses Rokoshiki techniques....... 3. We saw Roger use armament when clashing with Whitebeard so it's clear it's necessary in the strongest of clashes/fights.

1. This does not disprove that someone could have Haki that transcends their sword skill. Big mom is blatant evidence of this. Zoro outclasses her in sword skill 1 millions times over, Big Mom with her Haki and just Napoleon would low to mid diff Zoro. Also the fact that OP takes place in the era of pirates, and in the real world the majority of pirates used swords (Oda loves using real world inspo), but few were considered swordsman/master swordsman. I feel that lends credence to the idea of someone prioritizing their growth in haki development over sword skill. 2. Fuji was never confirmed to have conquerors, so to say he does is just headcanon. Also he’s only ever dropped 2 meteors in the entire series and one them was stopped by doffy’s birdcage, unless his meteors somehow get powercliffed then I don’t see them being super useful. Every other time Fuji has fought on screen he’s used his gravity techniques to enhance his sword skill. Also if you don’t think the fact that he uses a supreme grade sword, falls into the blind swordsman trope, and has a sword fighting stance completely unique to himself in OP, makes him a swordsman idk what will convince you. Using skills snd techniques outside of sword skill does not invalidate someone as a swordsman imo. OP is full of characters who utilize special techniques and personal advantages to win fights. You could argue that because Mihawk uses observation Haki which is a skill completely disconnected from sword technique that it invalidates him as a swordsman, but you see how that doesn’t make sense. 3. King doesn’t scale to prime beard in even the slightest bit, so this argument doesn’t prove anything. Also Zoro still needed Armament Haki/Conqueror’s/Enma’s Haki while King’s flames were off to beat him, implying Zoro was just weaker than him if he didn’t have access to all three types regardless of his sword skill and technique.

• Personal take • I think (Current) shanks loses 1 on 1 to Hawkeye and not without serious damage and fatigue to Hawkeye it'd be a close fight, but previously Whitebeard stated they were relatively close in power and that their battle was incredibly impressive (by whitebeards standards) and this was pre shanks losing his (Dominant / Sword arm ) Considering Hawkeye holds the title of the worlds greatest swordsman, a bounty not far off of Red hair shanks without the provenance of having a grand fleet, territories or a crew behind him along with the fact he was such a problem for the marines as Hawkeye "The Marine Hunter" that they entirely gave up trying to fight him to HIRE the guy that was hunting them. We know Hawkeyes blade "Yoru" Is thus far the strongest of the 12 supreme great blades in the series and although the statement "Haki transcends all" Is very true, we're talking about a man with no known Devil fruit, and being a former rival of shanks he presumably would have close to similar Haki (Possibly weaker haki) but not to the level difference of being overpowered by Shank's Haki alone. Although in Marine ford Hawkeye's nameless attack was blocked at a distance by Diamond Jozu and he briefly clashed with Vista of the white beard pirates, I don't believe he was taking any of these fight seriously if he was we would of seen a named attack from him at the war he was also effortlessly parrying Vista's named attacks (Rose Rondo). He effortlessly (Unamed attack) performed one of the greatest sword feats we've seen in the series with a clean slash through a mountain sized glacier at a distance. Some fans may say "Well Hawkeye ran away from shanks at marine ford refusing to fight him" But to me this was more of a sense of honor and pride, as stated in the video If Hawkeye were to fight his old rival shanks and beat him (While missing his dominant sword arm) It would have been disgraceful and just as so if he had lost. How do we know shanks lost his dominant arm to the sea king? Well because he has a left handed sword he wears on his right side (The side that still has the arm) swordsmen typically draw their hip hilted blade across their body rather then from the same side the sheath is on this much is common knowledge if shanks was a right handed swordsman he would be wearing his sword on the opposite side of where it currently is (On his left side) but instead wears it to his right. Lets also not forget during the attempt at capturing the former Warlords of the sea, The navy government sent an entire Buster call to Hawkeyes island in a failed attempt to capture him without a single scratch on him before joining cross guild • Take what you will from this post this is just my observations from the show & manga as an advent reader.•

I think there is a fundamental flaw in your argument. Let's begin here... 1. Haki transcends all. This statement will both hold true for all characters with all sorts of different fighting styles. Meaning... for swordsmen, the one with the strongest haki will be the strongest one of them all. Am I wrong? If Shanks' haki is then superior to Mihawk, even if he has a miniscule "sword skill," he would be stronger than Mihawk. Afterall... you used Luffy and Kaido vs. Zoro as an example. Both Luffy and Kaido have basically zero sword skills but have greater haki. Hence, they beat Zoro, right? Zoro's swords skills in this case don't matter at all. I would argue the same holds true if Shanks, a swordsman, has haki greater haki than Mihawk, coupled with his swordsmanship, which is compared to Mihawk... the logic follows that Shanks should be the WSSM. I'd like to point out vista and mihawk postponed their duel because this took place moments before the enclosing walls were about to go up. Mihawk sensed something strange was about to happen so he wanted to stop before they were both caught in it. That's why vista says: "that'd be advantageous for both of us" because regardless of who's side your on the magma fists attack indescriminetly and they both get screwed over by it Also akainu didn't attack shanks because he was careful about how strong shanks was, it was because marines can't just blindly attack yonkos without permission from the fleet admiral, shanks being a yonko means akainu can't just fight him without sengoku's permission, that's why nobody rashly decided to fight shanks and sengoku ultimately was the one calling the shots despite how adamant akainu is about justice and pirates

I dont unterstand what so hard to unterstand. Mihawk is the world strongest swordsmen. Mihawk is also stated to be the worlds most skilled swordmen and the worlds greatest swordsmen. He hasn't fought a real fight yet since there is currently no worthy opponent for him since Shanks lost his arm. Oda likes to keep the strongest characters up for last so he can eclipse the opponents of the previous arcs. So therefore it's actually a feat for him that he hasn't had a real fight in story. Same goes for Shanks, Dragon and Imu. So therefore if u carry a sword in the one piece world and u use that to fight (and yes haki + sword counts as fighting with a sword) you are an automatic Mihawk victim. Everything else is just head canon.

I feel like this debate will always just be recency bias. We literally havent gotten anything from Mihawk since the timeskip. The power system has expanded quite a lot since then and Oda basically wrote himself into a corner by introducing an endgame character right in the beginning. Since he cant know how he would change the power system in the future, he couldnt do much with Mihawk and he's still holding him back now... ffs, we've seen the goroseis transform, Garp basically obliterating an island with his bare fist and we STILL dont even have a single named attack from Mihawk... He never used named attacks because he postpone or straight up leave fights to go fight level 1 pirates and pirates not paying attention to him. For the conquerors haki he most likely only used it against shanks 12 years ago and will have it when zoro comes to him. Just because shanks consistently uses his haki doesn’t mean it’s an anti feat for shanks if anything Oda consistently has characters or narration glazing shanks haki to be most likely the strongest since joyboy.

Zoro’s end goal is to be the most proficient swords person in the world not the best Haki user or his end goal would be joyboy, shank's Haki is greater due to it being a roger level feat, Mihawk has none of that unless you stretch his title to of all time (which would do the same to whitebeards which makes him stronger then Roger which makes no sense), which does nothing cause Roger and Shanks Haki is better still and Joyboy’s Haki is less hostile then shanks
