You’re spot on. No worries is the biggest luxury there is

I 100% agree! The thing is, some people tend to view cars as fashion items. When a new trend is around the corner, they get ready to get rid of their old vehicle and buy a new one just to look cool, and nowadays, also to appear more eco-friendly. But it doesn’t matter if it’s an EV or an ICE engine; if you change your car every 3-5 years, it’s actually much worse for the environment than owning one reliable car that can last a long time. So I really hope that conscious consumption and reliability will again become the top priorities when it comes to people’s purchasing decisions. The Jimny, though, is a timeless car, instead of being trendy. And that is very cool.

I think you have this kind of backwards. There’s nothing wrong ecologically to trading in your car. There are many other factors involved, but I’m at a loss as to why you think this? In fact, it would be better if we only made high quality cars which lasted a long time, and people who could not afford new ones would buy the trade ins rather than buying cheaply made new ones. In reality, governments and auto makers seem to be conspiring to sell us cars that need to be recycled much too soon. Cars should all last twenty five years or 300,000 miles while being economically worth repairing that whole time.

@@nunyabidness3075 Trading in a new car every few years keeps the cycle of car production at an all time high. Cars are massively resource intensive to build so keeping this cycle going is unsustainable. It's similar to getting a new phone every year but on an even larger scale. You are very right that we should make better built, longer lasting cars, but this will only come from people's consumer decisions.
@nunyabidness307525 күн бұрын
@ it’s nothing like phones. The demand for new cars today has much less to do with desire to only drive a new car. There’s actually a lot of people buying new because the price of used cars is too high. (Me included). Back when cars didn’t last, and used cars depreciated faster, people bought used who wanted new. The price difference made them switch. Nowadays, it’s pretty much the opposite. Look at the market for highly durable cars like Toyota trucks. Compare that to the poorest quality and cheapest cars which some brands stopped offering. If you want to reduce volumes of new cars, you have to start with government. They need to stop seeing cars as jobs and revenue and excuses to expand government. Rip out all the policies telling the manufacturers what to do which perversely make cars fail too soon. Raise taxes on energy and extracted resources (raises cost of manufacturing) Reduce taxes on labor (reduces cost of repair and restoration). Then, the market will make cars last longer and the mix will be more efficient cars and less luxury and status cars. Fix the roads! Much of the demand for SUV’s is for cars that don’t need new suspensions at 100k. Also causing demand for trucks is taxes on rental vehicles. Renting a truck is too expensive, so people buy the truck they need twice a year. And finally, don’t let the manufacturers use trickery to economically kill older cars.

Well said brother, respect. Few people think that way these days. Bought a Honda sedan in my country for the same set of reasons, sense, simplicity and reliability. Subscribed to your channel and I will watch the rest of the content as and when time permits. Cheers!

Seen tons of Jimny videos. Even though I get a brand new in two weeks I’ll continue to watch. Love to hear people tell how much they love the Jimny. You nailed it. I have a 1980 Land Rover Series 3. Soon I have a mini Land Rover. Almost identical simple. Important ! You can maintain both of them in the exact same way 🥰

I have a theory, around 2012-2015, give or take a few years, depending where you are in the world, cars reached a peak. In relative performance and very high reliability. Before fuel injection, disc brakes and air bags, precision engine machining, cars needed regular maintenance to even run and not breakdown. If the trend continued no one would need to buy cars anymore. The older ones would be sufficient. The manufacturers made them more complicated with integrated features that get outdated. Emission norms were made stricter so new technologies like egr valves could be made to internally destroy perfectly good engines. Plastics and electronics were introduced in critical applications like air intakes, areas prone to high temperatures, planned obsolescence. All in the name of improvement, weight reduction and fuel economy. The more a car is like a cellular phone, then the temptation to buy new will be created by artificially crippling the car’s features every 3-4 years.

Amen brother. I bought myself a Toyota Hilux. Lived in it for two years (RTT) and drove around Australia. River crossings, beaches, very remote trips, she never missed a beat. I don't want gadgets and nonsense. I just want to know my vehicle can get me into the outback... and back home! Jimmy is a great car also.

I totally agree, utilitarian cars and trucks are the way to go. I wish that Suzuki would import the Jimny here in the USA, but, unfortunately they have pulled out of the US market all together.

It's refreshing to hear someone speak up about the importance of simplicity and practicality in cars. As someone who has also fallen in love with the Suzuki Jimny (yes, I've ordered one too!), I couldn't help but nod along as you shared your thoughts on what makes a car truly great. For me, there's nothing quite like the sense of freedom that comes from driving a reliable and rugged vehicle like the Jimny. I'll be using mine to navigate Australia's vast outback but anyone could simply explore the local countryside, having a car that can keep up with your adventures is essential. I love how you highlighted the utility factor of cars like the Jimny - they're not about looking good or having fancy features; they're about being able to get the job done, no matter what. And I'm with you all the way on this one: let's keep it simple.

I noticed a lot of Jimnys when I visited Mexico last year. They would sell very well in the US if they could. It would be a repeat of when the 2nd generation Jimny was introduced to the US as the Samurai and gave Jeep a run for its money.

The problem is that I live in Canada, and more than half of the time in a year, it's a sub-zero wasteland. Would certainly appreciate a Jimny if it was available here.

Well I do agree, but the thing is 99% of people don't. Consumers these days want Computer screens and LEDs that blind everybody on the road...unfortunately good reliable simple and affordable cars will go extinct. I have a 16 year old Toyota and everyone is telling me to change that piece of crap because it's not fancy, althought it works perfectly.
