I would think the Parc La Fontaine is named after the French Canadian politician Louis-Hippolyte La Fontaine, not because of the fountain. But yeah having a fountain in Parc La Fontaine respects the spirit XD.

I came to the comments when I heard him say it. 😂 Park is indeed named after Lafontaine, a key figure in the Patriot Rebellions of 1837 against the British colonial authorities. Lafontaine later served as our first Premier and is famous for pissing off the Anglo loyalists who rioted and 🔥burned down the Canadian Parliament in Montréal🔥 in full francophobic rage which lead to it being moved to Ottawa. He has his own monument/statue in the park at the corner of Sherbrooke and Ave. Du Parc Lafontaine just South of the pond. Hard to miss it.

Greetings Dan! I live in upstate NY about 130 km from Montreal and visit every chance I can get. I agree this city has a vibe all its own--welcoming, slower paced (compared to many American cities) and feels like it was made for humans rather than motor vehicles. My fav areas are Mile End, Plateau, Little Italy and the area around LaFontaine Park. I also appreciate your vids (just subbed!) and learn something new each time. Merci Beaucoup!

I can explain why summer in Montreal is special. First winter is long, so everyone comes out. Two, the city size is small so all the major attractions are in walking distance. NYC, LA are not like that. (Santa Monica beach to grifth-something else. It could be very far in traffic) (NYC is very diverse but it kinda doesn’t have the “one-ness” feeling. There is one-ness feeling but just not as strong as Montreal people) the culturally laidback-vibe is unique to Quebec, I think. 3. I think NYC party scene and MTL party scene are both good but MTL party scene is more welcoming. (Imagine going to 1 house to another in NYC. It’s just difficult to find parking spot twice. And it becomes a hassle). And, i think it’s a lot safer to walk around (relatively to other major cities in North America). You gotta play the “city lines” video game Dan. I think you might love it! (About lens: don’t get a new lens. What you have is perfect. I don’t know for streets but for ski-vlogging, insta 360 is the way to go. (In terms of battery performance in cold weather and giving many different option of views). (Go pro is no more the leader. )

Coming from Vancouver, I actually find Montreal quite spread out, car-centric and suburban. Even after almost twelve years here, I’m still not used to running all over town to buy herbs from Akhavan and Della Nonna tomato sauce. I’m surprised you didn’t pop into Chapeaux Henri Henri while downtown. Love checking out the place even if I never wear a hat. Great ending!
