Housing is already an issue, but not as bad as Ontario, If the municipality of Calagary lets all those so called real estate investors come to Calgary, in a few years the city can become like the GTA, infested with greedy "Slumlords / high prices and housing will be a bigger problem! I'd say if you can work from home, settle in a smaller town like Red Deer or Lethbridge, You would still be close to Calgary or Edmonton and still only pay GST, Not 13% HST, plus lower property taxes on home purchase for your family.

Low cost of living and investment opportunities brought me out here this spring. I like how it's more of a laid back lifestyle compared to the GTA as well.

How is the cultural scene(museums, music, theatre) in Calgary? I don’t care for nightlife but I enjoy various cultural activities. ☺️ Living in the GTA, I would go to Calgary for the lower taxes, higher wages, and lower cost of living. Great video! Looking forward to more!

You know what, I haven’t ventured much into the music/arts scene but we do definitely have several places where they have museums and theatres that are very popular! I should check them out hehe Thanks so much for watching 🥰

I grew up in the GTA and move out to Calgary this spring so I I can relate when it comes to the amount of cultural activities. During the summer it seems like there's a cultural festival pretty much every weekend. Recently there were Caribbean, Japanese, Korean and Latino festivals

I hope it won't get too expensive by the time I get there. Seems like a lot of millennials in Toronto moving to Calgary now. I'm so tired of living paycheque to paycheque while working a decent paying job 🥲

Yes a lot of people are moving here but a lot of people are also moving out of Canada in general. Dont worry things will work out if they're meant to be, I totally feel that :(

As a frequent visitor I definitely find Calgarians friendly, drivers are also much less aggressive compared to bigger cities. Nice overview!

"Families in shelters want a place of their own. Calgary's rental market makes that tough to do" Example: rentals are snapped up on day of listing, people offer to pay more to secure housing. Show: actual listings, tour the listings, show process. Some realtors just want contacts but bait and switch listings

@patricialing 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the rental market is super crazy right now unless you have a high budget, it will be very hard to find something like I have mentioned. I am no realtor and most rentals don’t usually come from realtors. Most realtors sell properties not rent them out. I have no contacts for rentals so I have very limited information to share about it. I, myself rent and have been in the same spot for over 2 years cause I can’t afford anything else right now. Hard to show places when there is no rentals unless your budget is over (1600+ /month) hope this helps

Hi Patricia. If I were to move here on a 100k/year salary, would I be able to rent a decent apartment for me and my girlfriend for $2k / month ? Also how is the culinary sector? My girlfriend is a chef and would need a new place to work in and I heard chefs are really underpaid here. We're thinking of emigrating to Canada and retiring back in our home country. For this we need to prepare and I'd appreciate if you could respond. Your videos so far have been the most helpful resources on the entire internet about Calgary so I think you're doing a very good job in growing this city yourself!

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. 100k/year is pretty decent and way more income than I have so yes I would say 2k/month for an apartment is average right now. That is also for one that is more new and upscale. You will have better chances in finding a rental if your budget is around 2k. Eventually if you do like it here, you can also apply for a mortgage. Culinary sector is super underpaid in North America in general by my experience. You have to find a good employer and search around for what meets your needs. A lot of chefs tend to open their own restaurant. I know that the restaurant industry is growing at a high scale here as new places open up like every other week. But it can get competitive, don't let that discourage you though. Wish you there best in your move if you decide to, I know its difficult and complicated. Do whats best for you :) Thanks so much for supporting my channel!

@@patricialing I am working in software development so 100k is at the higher more experienced end of the spectrum. I doubt anyone's going to hire me with that salary straight away. But since we intend to live there for 20+ years, I think I'll get there eventually. Even so, we do not necessarily need to rent in the heart of Calgary - so I'd rather give 2k on something nicer outside of the downtown area, and buy a used car. That's bad news about the culinary sector but she does plan on opening a food truck :) So she'd be working for herself. Anyway it's a long ways away but it's a dream we're determined to fulfil. Thanks and good luck with your own job opportunities I hope you'll be able to advance in your career even further by the time we get there :D All the best.

@@catalinaga you would be surprised what you can be offered! Always look at your options. Yes there’s many options you can find even outside of the inner city! Oh well if she does have a food truck please let me know the name I will have to check it out ☺️ Thank you for your kindness! I appreciate it.
