Your friend sounds like a person who would love the kesämökki(summer cottage) lifestyle in Finland, which is a huge part of many people lives. From families of all ages to group of friends tend to love it. Some people like it ”old school” so with as little electricity as possible but there’s nothing wrong with going the modern way as well. To each its own.

Interesting observations! Just one note: 2:42 Finns actually drink less alcohol per head than Europeans on average (YLE News June 10). The consumption has been declining for years, especially younger generations drink less nowadays. But of course, some drink a lot still. Oh yes, we in Finland often forget how rare it is to have an easy access to nature the way we have it here.

It sounds like your friend will be visiting Finland regularly to destress from his current job and the country he is living in. I wish him health and happiness. Ps… I remember arriving in Finland in July and it was only 17C for the days. My daughter and I dressed like a winter’s day in Sydney. 😂😂 We have visited in winter as well and coped very well. It was late December but no snow.

That was a lovely interview. Outside Finland's few larger cities quite a lot of Finnish tourism is centered around the nature and wildlife experience and relaxation. There are E.g. 41 national parks in Finland with various well-kept hiking routes and E.g. popular guided tours focusing in birding for bird enthusiasts. During the winter the snow, cold and darkness with the Northern Lights are tourist attractions for some, but also the silence. And if someone likes sunlight, the winter sun can get blinding bright when it reflects from the snow, like it often does when the darkest months have passed. That larger beer can (0,5 L) doesn't really play a factor in alcohol consumption compared to the smaller can. That 0,5 liter equals roughly to a pint (tuoppi in FInnish), which is a basic beer unit when serving beer. The alcohol related questions are asked in health check, because even modest alcohol use can effect health, if person has some medical conditions. It's not just a question of finding out whether person is an alcoholic or not.

Metro+tram combo is the most efficient way to get around in Helsinki, definitely recommend getting used to that. Buses are used when there is no tram or metro lines where you are going but there is nothing like metro+tram when it comes to efficiency and speed, you don't need to check schedules at all during the day, and even at nights they operate with such frequency that average wait times are short, few minutes.

You guys can just take a metro in vuosaari and go to the sipoonkorven kansallispuisto, theres a cabin you can grill your meals and sleep for free in a forest, theres a lake too where you can swim.

I agree with the point about more bike availability. Bike lanes are one of the hottest topics in Helsinki politics because some people oppose bike lanes with every cell they have, and everyone who is advocating for more more bikes or user friendly bike lanes is labeled as a communist or whatever nasty thing you can think of, especially on the Internet. So I guess companies are holding back for that reason.
