I had a MT-125 and never felt fully confident on it and always wanted to go out for rides but i’d make excuses up to why i wouldn’t go out. After trying a friends honda grom out i felt way more confident as the bike is light, easy to move around/pick up, easy to control and much easier to learn all the basics on. If you are wanting another 125 maybe pick up one of the smaller 125’s like the grom or monkey and giving it another try when you are ready.

@@lauragriffiths5901 on the flip side, may be worth trying a DAS lesson on a bigger bike. My Grom was great and not at all intimidating until I had to take it on faster roads, basically topped out at 50. Bige bikes are heavy when not moving but much more stable so can be reassuring

You tell them. Good on you. Riding motorbikes can be scary, but there should also be a level of enjoyment. If you are not enjoying it then stop and revaluate, it does not mean you can't go back to it in the future, if you want to. 👍

I kinda want to try and talk you out of it but I feel you. I always wanted a bike as a kid but my mam's side of the family had a couple of nasty accidents and she was dead against it so I stayed clear Then in 2016 my best mate (lived across the street since we were 3 or 4) died... While shopping at 37 years old. This broke the deal and told my mam I was getting a bike. Told her I'd take it seriously. Got my CBT and a Grom in 2017 and started lessons. Never took much to put me off so wasn't till last year I finally pulled my finger out after losing my job on medical grounds. Got my first big bike, 2011 CBR600f and love it. I'm slow, have anxiety, still takes nowt to put me off... currently need a warmer jacket so obviously can't ride till then with just a fleece underneath 🙄 I've taken bike safe and refresher course and all have said I'm safe which was my biggest concern and I just need to get out more. Some suggestions that I'm to big for my bike as I'm a big lump Sooo .. I kinda feel like you are going through what I did.... I've got no self esteem but feel like I'm getting there bike wise. I think I need a destination as just tend to potter about if on my own and if I'm with someone else feel like I need to keep up. Still put obstacles in my way but love being out... Think it really helps with my depression. Sorry for the essay, I'm think I lost the plot but in my case it really helps me on the other side of my DAS....and the tests were easy. I would suggest trying different schools, you'll get one that clicks but it is your call, no shame in deciding it isn't for you but if you enjoy it and suggest keeping at it or maybe just have a break.

Everyone has to start somewhere. When I did my CBT I struggled doing the figure of 8 and he said it’s easy it’s not hard at all. Now I have my A license and like you said I watch your videos and some other videos and put that into my skill set. Also your haters are your biggest following. Let them comment and say awful things, we don’t see them posting videos. Keep up the good work guys!

You can always revisit the biking thing if and when you feel like it anyway, it’s only a hobby, it needs to be fun. My Mrs stopped riding for 4 years and had the same battle. We’ve just picked up a new Triumph speed 400 in place of her sv650 and now she has the bug again. Budget adventure bike would be cool for features btw. As far as the martial arts, I was an instructor with 25 years of training and I have to say Bruce Lee was right when he said “Don’t think…..feeeeeel”. Don’t over think it, just keep doing it till it’s right and it WILL work.

love commuting on the 650 but ahh, sportbike price insurance makes it not as practical as daily riding should be. I had a few close calls this year, one involving me landing on my neck in february (got hit by a car riding a bicycle..hit and run).. This turned bringing the sv650 out this past spring into a act of courage.. i put on another 11K km this year, practiced everyday and Never enough in the parking lot.. passed the learner exam a week after I had absentmindedly turned left (or right in Europe) in front of a Pickup Truck. I was lucky the driver was paying 100% attention, He braked, and honked.. I had no clue till he honked. Timed slowed down-i was in front of this truck and wedged between the median, I was not making the turn. I remember the collision in february, and the independence day I had been attacked by a mob and made the choice to hop across the median- In front of a truck. other times being ran off the road by brake checkers. I snapped back to reality and parked it on the median. Truck stopped and asked if I was alright, it was just a dad bringin his lad home from school. bike has been my main source of transportation for over 5 years.. There is flowers at almost every corner.. it doesnt matter what source of transportation you choose, risk is always present..especially with the rise of distracted, and intoxicated drivers. There is alot of used bikes going cheap for these reasons. There is alot of reasons to not ride but if you find the courage, and your head is right.. you swing that leg over.. there is not many things that can stop you...But you must be calm, brave, and watch for the signs- and I believe you partner is seeing all the signs.

I know a couple that bought 2 used zx6r's. 20 grand worth of bikes. They dropped and wrecked both motorcycles. There's no money to fix them and the payments are massive. So now the motorcycles just sit there like an eye sore. It's painful to watch. Atleast another 5 years of payments and no money or motorcycle. Love your channel!

I would say that you were delighted that your wife wanted to share your riding life and that she wanted to experience the same happiness that you were having with motorcycles. But, what can you do? We are different, try agreeing on what film to watch together, it’s not easy. If you’re finding that you are forcing yourself to do something like riding motorcycles then that’s a good sign to ease back. Good podcast!

If you wanted a challenge i bet a good one would be to see how cheap you could buy a 125cc that you could use for everything. By that a bike you could use to daily commute, offroad/green laning, do the weekly shop on, long journey rides maybe even camping or ride the coast of uk on. We know 125ccs are content kings as its something you can buy and use legally at the age of 17 so its also usually the first type of bike most people buy and use. Maybe even do modifications on to try and get more power or even just a bike you can flip and make a profit

I took the MSF (BRC) course prior to buying just to make sure I wanted to ride... I was hooked within the hour. I did buy used ..sorta (2024 used with 1k miles).. but I like having new stuff..lol no one can fault you for wanting to quit.. you may eventually get back to it... I had a motorcycle for about 6 months in my 20's and got rid of it (new child), and i regret it.. at 55, I'm just now starting to ride, and I wish I would have not ever stopped.. but that is MY story.. not yours.. I'm glad you still love them and want to stay with the industry and enjoy them YOUR own way.. I'm still learning and it's nerve wrecking but I do enjoy it.. wish I had Goblin around to ride with..lol (I've had the bike for 3 months but still haven't hit the highways)

A daily riding 2 wheeled vehicle. Get a scooter. Get a Burgman 650 with an 80 litre top box. You still have an under seat storage, too. Add saddle bags if you want. Can't beat the Burgman 650 for reasonable power, usability, reliability and easy maintenence. Also has a large pillion seat. What's an interesting motorcycle I'd like to see you review and ride? A Yamaha Niken if you can get your hands on one hahaha I ride motorcycles but I both encourage and discourage certain people from riding. Riding motorcycles is dangerous and I believe certain personalities and attitudes shouldn't be on them.

It’s the other way round for me. My long term girlfriend is the full motorcycle holder but I’m the perpetual CBTer 125er not having enough confidence to go through the tests. I like the riding have done 6000 miles in 3 years mostly commuting and some coastal trips. The drawn out tests with lessons within a 2 year period are a deterrent factor. I wish you could do just a practical test to get an A1 full licence and then go through MOD1 & MOD2 for the A full licence. Some teaching instructors do have that off putting macho attitude though. Nowadays so many motorcycle dealerships are closing and the youngsters are more interested in uninsured unlicensed e-bikes. It could spell the end for motorcycle riding for future generations.

Just got myself a 2003 BMW R1150RT from flea bay for a staggering £720 to use as my winter daily so that my Sprint gets a rest when the weather gets really bad. Sadly my wife has had very similar experiences to yourself with her CBT, the first school and I use that term very loosely we're awful and really dented her confidence, luckily we found another one where the instructors were really good and that helped her a lot. I really don't get all this sexism rubbish and people trying to put other people off riding, the more people that ride bikes the better it is for everyone that rides a bike it really is that simple. As a former motorcycle instructor the only advice I would give regarding doing your license is, it's easier to do your full license when you are young and once you have it you have it for life.

If you're looking for an all year round everyday hack, super reliable, low maintenance, reasonable performance, comfortable, affords some weather protection, slips through traffic, can carry the weekly shop and cheap, you can't beat a low mileage 250cc + Japanese scooter!

To the wife. If you want to give up riding fine. if you just want to have a break from riding fine. But imoo it would be a good idea to get your bike license even if you want to have a break from riding. as the years keep tick over the tests will get harder more laws ect. once you have it you have it. you can jump on whenever you like if you want to start riding again. and same advice to others that are having same/similar things that are happing to you. don't let the a-holes make you quit to hell with them.

Motorcycles should be fun and if it's not fun and it becomes a stress then it's maybe not right for you at that time and that is fair enough. I obviously can't comment on your personal CBT experience but just as a caveat to what you were saying about your CBT instructor you have to remember that a CBT is not just a bit of red tape it has been designed to check your suitability to safely be out on the road on your own as a learner. Instructors are very much like Teachers and they all have their own ways and you really have to take the time to find an Instructor that you gel with. I have concerns about calling the Instructor sexist without any context because he may well have had genuine concerns about your safety to be let out on the roads. After all it is his job to determine if you are safe to be out on your own before he issues that certificate and by your own admission you were struggling a bit. My Wife went on a similar journey and had a bad CBT experience and she gave up but she did start coming out on the back of my bike and she now loves that so much that she has no desire atm to go back to riding. For her she enjoys the pillion experience and she can look around and see the sights and just enjoy the experience. Maybe you need a different instructor, maybe now is not the right time for you or maybe motorcycling really isn't for you. Only you can make that judgement but it should be fun and not a source of stress.

I’m 55 and only came back to riding after 20 yr break. And I almost walked away from it during my direct access after the tutor shouted at me for grabbing the front break. Now ive been riding a few years I’ve got a big adventure bike and I’ve dropped it a few times and I’ve not ridden for at least 3 weeks because of confidence loss. I always feel like some stupid old man with a mid life crisis. I also think everyone is just laughing at me. I’ll probably keep riding because it is so much fun but I reserve the right to walk away from it and I couldn’t give a furry crack of a rats arse what anyone thinks. Do what makes you happy and what makes you comfortable.

Some instructors can really put u off, they should be there to teach you since your paying them to. I told my cbt instructor off once for yelling at me he never did it again. At the end of the day everything will be ok. Got all the time in the world to do it anyway. When ur ready ur ready.

Hi , first off . My CBT was awful . Walked away with zero confidence and had no flipping idea how to ride a motorbike. 2 months of watching KZbin , Ur channel amount them . Bought a bike literally scared for my self for a good few weeks of riding it . Last winter at one point at 6 am in mist I couldn't see f all ( thankfully a lorry driver was behind me and sussed it out and tailgated me until I got on a light road ) I thought f this shit but had to ride it back from work . I done 3000 miles on Mandy the Mondial . Now done my Das at the end of September this year . Street triple bought 1 week later and iv done 1000miles + in about 4/5 weeks . I literally no longer enjoy driving a car tbh . But hey hoo . I think self belief is something important as well as trusting yourself ..... Anyway . I have stopped watching this video at 43 mins ISH . Iv just heard the chat over money 6k ISH . Yeah money is important BUT no one ever in the history of the world had ever layed on their death bed and wished they had more money. We live we learn and learning is worth more than money . Happiness ,Memories, time, health , and loved ones is all that matters . So what if u don't even want to ride ever again!!! Or just 2 days every year or whatever . Do what makes you feel good . F what anyone thinks , I think it's great!!! if it's making u feel even a little shit then what's the point . This isn't a practice run this is real life . I hope this comes across well . ✌️👍

Hi gobs, great video.. Mrs Gobs, don't worry. It's not the end of the world. You've lost interest in riding. I think all bikers have gone through that stage at some point. I used to do a week shopping on my old FJR.. There's only 2 bikes I've never got bored of, Blackbird Zzr1400.. You are correct. Zzr1400 was the reason why I personally started watching your channel.. Bikes are definitely more fun than cars, I prefer them. The example of the MA..that was perfect, I remember when I did Judo, I just could not do a one arm shoulder throw. Yes, I could do it for grading , but never in competition, I just couldn't do it..showed my Mrs once, and she did it perfectly..
