Voldemort learnt a valuable lesson. You do NOT touch a mother's son. I swear, sometimes I feel like mothers would KILL in order to protect their children. So since Narcissa lying lead to his death, I'd say it's an accurate idea

I think it came down to not minding what Voldermort did until it began to affect her family. So long as Lucius and Draco were on good terms with him, there wasn't much that she cared for. I feel as if this resonated with a lot of situations in life: people do not mind certain bad things happening to others until it happens to themselves or the ones they love. A very informative video, thanks for making these!

I've always seen Narcissa Malfoy more as like a more condescending female Slughorn. She's certainly believe that there was a hierarchy based on blood purity and she certainly believed in maintaining that hierarchy. But I don't believe that she was inherently as much of a militaristic blood Purist as her husband. I feel like she just accepted that that was his view of the situation and as long as her and her family were safe she didn't care that hard. She was willing to lie straight to the Dark Lord's face about Harry Potter being there in Malfoy Manor at all. Because I'm sure Lucius Malfoy recognized him and told his wife but they agreed amongst themselves that it was best not to expose Harry Potter and give up their one chance of being rid of Voldemort. She lied to him about Harry being dead in the forest. It was ultimately Narcissa's wand that Harry used to defeat Voldemort. I have to believe that by the time that happened they were very much ready for this war to be over and were doing everything they thought they could get away with to sabotage Voldemort from inside. Even if it was only to save their own necks the strategy was effective. Harry Potter was saved by a mother's love twice. First by his own Mother's sacrifice and second by Narcissisa greater love for Draco then for any blood Purity cause. Personally I think she took a morbid satisfaction in the fact that it was her wand that Harry had used to kill Voldemort. She could never Strike Back Against Voldemort herself it wouldn't have achieved anything. But by providing the wand that did, she could contribute.

You see her only as a wife and Mother. I think, as an individual, she was as committed to Pure Blood Supremacy as her sister Bellatrix and her husband Lucius. She was as prepared to commit the same horrors as Bellatrix, probably. Lucius was committed to himself, his riches and his family (probably in that order). Because he gained advantages from his inherited Pure Blood Supremacy (and the Malfoys were at least as anti-muggle as the Blacks), Lucius was more than happy to follow (and probably fund) Voldemort's First rise. The disappearance of Voldy after the encounter with the Potters in Godric's Hollow enabled Lucius to go back to his abiding loves - self, wealth & family, while still keeping up his anti-muggle campaigns (witness his opposition to Arthur Weasley's Muggle Protection Act in The COS). Narcissa was a more than willing backer and supporter of Lucius in his efforts (witness her reaction to Harry when he meets Draco in Madam Malkins). Neither of them was too upset when, after the events of GOF, Voldemort returned, though, probably not delighted to have him as a house guest (after all, Both were High Born (or at least considered themselves as such)) and Voldy tended to treat ALL his followers as Servants. Both Lucius and Narcissa were arrogant to their core, and being treated as a Servant in their own house probably wasn't pleasant. On the upside, Lucius was the top Death Eater at that stage and Narcissa certainly enjoyed the prestige that brought. And she also got her elder sister out of Azkhaban. Definitely a win-win. Then Lucius FAILED in the Department of Mysteries and he ended up in Azkhaban. Suddenly, Narcissa is on the outs with the Death Eaters, Voldemort (probably still a House "Guest") is more than likely constantly reminding her about Lucius's failure AND she has to attend Lucius's trial. Humiliation on Humiliation on Humiliation. For the arrogant Narcissa, it must have seemed like Hell. And then Draco gets his "task". And suddenly, Narcissa realizes what Hell really feels like. (It's probably also worth noting that while she is aware of the task Draco was given, Draco excludes her from what he's planning (In the books, unlike the movie, Draco visits Borgin & Burke's WITHOUT "Mummy" (as Ron calls her)). While Narcissa has recruited Snape to help Draco, Draco seems unwilling to confide in ANYONE (though he probably does HAVE to give Voldy "Progress Reports".) In the end, Draco fails, though Dumbledore does end up dead, (and here's the bit where I'm confused), despite Draco's failure on top of Lucius's earlier failure (and Voldemort HATES failure), Voldemort still breaks Lucius out of Azkhaban. (It is most unlike him to "Reward" failures.) So despite her fears, by the end of the HBP, Narcissa has her Husband and Son alive and back with her. But Voldy ISN'T going to let Lucius off that lightly. He seems to take delight in Publicly HUMILIATING Lucius and any pretence that he was a "House Guest" is over - he is the True Master of Malfoy Manor and he has even turned the Cellar into a make-shift secret prison. The glimpses of Narcissa we get in the DH show a Woman stripped of her previous arrogance. But let's not kid ourselves here. Her lack of enthusiasm for Voldemort and his New Order is NOT any renouncing of her previously held beliefs. In fact, we see no sign that she opposes Voldemort's methods (unlike, for instance Sirius's parents), never mind his goals. No. Narcissa's ONLY issue is that she is no longer Lady of the Manor, merely one of Voldemort's Servants and subjected to HIS arrogance and that is unbearable to her (Bellatrix, on the other hand LOVES the role). So IF Narcissa ever grew to "Hate" Voldemort, it was only because he Humiliated her and her marital Family. Given that Voldemort was doing FAR worse to Many, Many other families, our sympathy for Narcissa (or ANY of the Malfoys) should diminish accordingly

Even villains have a moral line that they won't cross, but it often isn't in a place that works for the rest of us (to say the least). Voldemort may have known this, but his mistake was in guessing where it was for Narcissa: it was her family, not her fear of him. Voldemort's mistake was that he thought he could reprogram everyone's moral compass to revolve around him, and him alone, purely through fear. It failed . . . frequently.
@WilliamAGould Жыл бұрын
Voldemort greatest mistake was focusing on feeding his ego and not his following through on his goals. He constantly disrespected and/or put his most loyal followers into no win situations as a way to better control them and his other followers. This eventually created resentment for constant disrespect and recklessness among his followers in taking risks to try to succeed in no win situations.

I always felt that it was a kind of karma that Voldemort was undone by both his arrogance & not understanding real love, particularly a mother's love, twice!! Because in her heart she had always put her husband & child first, then Voldemort didn't actually sense a change in loyalty from her, only a change to fear being why Lucius & Narcissa were still at his side when the attack on Hogwarts was started. He didn't care that she never liked him, he only cared that she supported her husband & he thought that putting their son on the front lines would make them both cooperate more out of fear. (After all, Pettigrew only served him out of fear, hoping that when Voldemort finally took over the world that he wouldn't kill him.) Fear did keep them both in line at first, but when a loving mom fears for her child nothing else compares & she will do anything she can, whether it's outright fighting or scheming. That's why the trope of the "mama bear" is so common. So her going behind Voldemort & Lucius' backs to get help from Snape & then lying to Voldemort about Harry being dead didn't cause any noticeable shift in her behavior or emotions, meaning Voldemort never thought to do another deep reading of her mind. He was too confident that he had control of them.

On the subject of Lucius, his occupation was never stated, in fact I believe it was said he didn't work due to his inheritance. But to be honest, I would think that Lucius, someone obsessed with status and power, wouldn't at least want to work. How else would he spread his influence? My personal headcannon is that Lucius works as some sort of prosecutor or lawyer for the Ministry Of Magic. He's said to have exceptional talent in the courtroom, having beaten Hagrid in the Trial of Buckbeak (I'm aware this is also because he threatened the members of the committee). This would also explain why he isn't always at the Ministry Of Magic, as a prosecutor wouldn't necessarily be in the courtroom all of the time, having to gather/re-examine evidence on the field. It would also enable him to have plenty of people in his debt, which I'm sure would come in great use when trying to escape the threat of Azkaban himself. It always struck me as odd that he, despite being quite obviously a Death Eater (So much so that Harry detected this fact in his Second Year), managed to escape the clutches of the law. Therefore, it would make sense if someone who knows the law like the back of his hand would be able to effectively evade capture. This would make him a pretty good asset to Voldemort as well, I'd assume, considering he may have aided other Death Eaters (at least initially, I doubt Crouch would've trusted him long enough to stay in the courtroom proceeding Voldemort's fall).

Voldemort took away her family's privacy, stripped them of all affection and freedom, even their home. If it were up to Voldemort, the Malfoys would have long been deeply embarrassed and distressed, but Bellatrix is the one who somehow ensured that Lucius, Narcissa and Draco could still remain in a certain "safer" position under Voldemort. Not only Harry's mother's love weakened Voldemort. You should not underestimate Narcisa's love for Draco, because that love is strong and also a weapon of balance in this war. Even Bellatrix went to great lengths to keep Draco out of trouble by making Snape take the Unbreakable Oath. She did that for Narcisa and Draco despite her looking up and obsession for Lord Voldemort. Narcissa used her feelings as well as her pain to make Bellatrix feel compassion, which in turn convinced Voldemort not to humiliate them any harder than necessary. There is a kind of bloodline pride in Bellatrix that ensured that the Malfoys were never fatally punished by their "in the eyes of the lord" failing actions of Lucius, for example, who according to Voldemort always acted too cowardly and would make too little effort. The failure of the Malfoys' dark wizardry actions was not because of cowardice but because they never erased their emotions unlike other Death Eaters or followers. Mother and Father Malfoy, despite Voldemort's heavy pressure to do some nasty things, also tried to save their own family but also cautiously steer clear of Voldemort's extreme performance because they have a line that they clearly don't want to cross. Draco's mother is always silent, often in the background but has hidden talents and gifts that combined with her love for her son and husband that may not have been intentional but still played to the advantage of Harry and the others. Draco didn't betray Harry in his house, Narcissa didn't tell Voldemort that Harry was still alive, Lucius Malfoy despite his arrogance must also have regularly concealed curiosities against Voldemort that plays in favor of Hogwarts, Harry or the others. Lucius could have paralyzed Harry and the others from the shadows in the fifth part and handed him over to the Lord but instead provokes a conflict by walking into their faces. Big mouth to prove his reputation to other followers but no drastic actions that he could have done perfectly. The Malfoys use their tactics of using time in favor of the others but not showing that they are benevolent so as not to create suspicion with Voldemort. In secret they always tried slow down The Lord and help the good side even when we don't see that.

@@kellenmoon3084 in the movie, Harry nods when she asks the question, as us audience can't feel the heartbeats of course. It's the tiniest of nods, but she still sees it, therefore that's how she knows Harry's alive and then lies.

Please do a video about why older wizards had suffixes after their names like the evil, the foul, the barmy etc and when and why this practice died out. By the way I love this channel and all of its videos. 3 months since I first requested this

"3 months since I first requested this" Being passive aggressive and self-centered isn't going to get you what you want. You can keep asking without the snark and eventually he might get to it, you aren't even close to the only one who requests videos from him on a daily basis.
@lahavzaken66382 жыл бұрын
@@Sp3c9000 I'm not being snarky and self centered. I also stopped asking for a while because he hearted my comment a while back which means that he saw it. I think he might have forgotten about the idea due to all of the content that he is trying to put out on this channel and his other channel so I thought I would remind him. I'm being snarky lol

Narcissa would have been happier if she'd had more children. I feel like there is some deep angry over how many children Molly had. Say verses how many children she ended up with. I might be reading too much into it, but I feel like that is a sore point for her.

My guy... look, I really like your channel. I really, really do, but I can't take all the shilling. I understand that this channel is your livelihood. Everyone has to make a buck, I can respect that to a point. It's kinda a fine line between making your bottom line and becoming a sellout. To be clear I am not calling you a sellout. I appreciate just how much hardwork goes into these videos; I'm a failed content creator and I know the hassle. Answering a simple question with a bloated answer is fine but bloating a sentence all the way to 10 minutes? Well, I guess technically you spent 4 of those minutes shilling sooooo.... What I used to love about this channel was how much heart your videos had... this is why I say it's dangerous to mix money with matters if the heart.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT!!! Lucius didn't work at the Ministry. He only used to have a lot of influence over it because of the tremendous amounts of money he passed on Cornelius Fudge and because of his entrancing ability of being in good terms with the precise people on the right positions so he can get any sort of favours every time he wanted. Just as many people in real life sadly do. Just a side note. 💁♀️

In the Chamber of Secrets Lucius Malfoy tells Mr. Weasley that he will "see him at work" so I think he does work with the ministry.
