Might be an unpopular opinion, but Im glad you cut up even the hype sneakers. Really shows how much of it is hype vs price for performance.

Yeah, while Kobes shoes are certainly one of the best basketball shoe lines around, its a real shame that a lot of them now go for outrageous prices on the resale market.
@hammo41687 ай бұрын
Agreed. I’ll throw in another unpopular opinion. At the foundation, the Lebron 21 has the same technical features as the Kobe 6 but the Lebron it has more zoom units, better heel cushion referring to the Nike sphere tech, top loaded shank plate vs bottom, but it has a thicker upper…. To me, considering the price difference, I’d rather have the Lebron’s.. more tech in a shoe that has the same foundational features, that’s FAR cheaper and readily available. At that point I would be paying for hype, status, and legacy as opposed to actual technical features. All respect to Kobe, RIP to a legend, but I can’t bring myself to buy scalped shoes like that.

Played Basketball for 30 years. Played in these during the original release. The Kobe 5, 6, and 8's are the 3 best shoes to hoop in. Period. Not overpriced 190$ just need more inventory so we all can indulge in the fruits.
@XYZeke8 ай бұрын
played in the original Vs (as well as the IVs, all the way up to the VIIs) and the Vs were for sure the best. I felt like the VIs were a downgrade in terms of heel lockdown, which was perfect in the Vs. That was before the "Protro" though and for sure before Kobe died. These days I can't afford Kobes and even if I could I wouldn't pay the going price on hoop shoes. They're never in stock for retail

Basketball shoes seem to come with a lot of added hype around the latest integrated tech, but what makes them so different from shoes meant for volleyball? I wonder how something like a popular asics volleyball shoe differs from a basketball shoe.

You can add tennis to the mix as well. Similar motions and lots of abrupt stop start pivoting. A comparison between the 3 would be interesting. ...now I need to go down the rabbit hole on differences between how a slo mo volley ball serve looks and how it compares to the tennis one.

I was able to play in both the original and protros. For the most part, theyre pretty similar. I will say while i enjoy the upgraded forefoot cushion in the protros, the lack of heel zoom make you feel like your heel sinks in the shoe while standing. The heel zoom in the originals made the shoe feel balanced and smooth. These new protros irritate my achilles after long periods of time

I've got a pretty long history of playing basketball poorly. I had the original Jordan's and many others after. I had the Barkley's, Iverson's, and many others as well. The guard on my city league team showed up with the Kobe's first, and he gave a pretty positive review. I bought some the next time I needed new shoes. They are IT, the Kobe's are the only basketball shoe, everything else is just playing.
@nickvoelker71808 ай бұрын
Context, there is something different about the shoe. I was a D1 athlete in my prime, and I'm still in very good shape and capable of moving somewhat like an NBA player. The issues I run into with basketball shoes are durability and power transfer. I've torn many basketball shoes apart in transitional movements, they don't hold up to the forces I'm placing upon them and the seams split and soles separate. There are others that do hold up, but the materials have too much give and I lose a lot of snap in my movements. The Kobe's hold up, and provide great base to generate power. They're very rigid where it matters.

@MyManD8 ай бұрын
Believe it or not, Kobe's line up only sponsors two players with free shoes - Demar DeRozan and PJ Tucker, because of their close connections to Kobe. Every other player is buying them off the resell market to wear, just like regular people, because they want to wear them for clout. You have to realize a lot of NBA players are in their 20s and are big Kobe fans, just like anyone else.
