She also explains in Act 2 she depended on Elphaba all her life hoping she could use her powers to make her walk but I highly doubt that she ever did ask Elphie to help her as she really lives up to being the Governor’s favorite. She never defends Elphie from all the countless judgements from their classmates and even their father. It’s too obvious their father raised her to think Elphie was an enemy because their mother died giving birth to Nessa. When really all this fault is the mother’s for having an affair. Too obvious as well the governess never told the truth. Even worse Nessa blamed Elphaba for Boq’s Tin Man transformation when in fact Nessa started it casting a spell to try to make Boq love her and Elphie was only doing it save his life

The foreshadowing of what Nessa did to Boq and keeping him with her is actually before Elphie gets in the train. Umm...no. When Elphaba (in the play, Glinda in the novel) adds magic to the shoes, she is able to walk while she wears them. She was mean to the munchkins because she didn't want Boq to leave her. When she gets the ability to walk, he feels she doesn't need him anymore. So he leaves her. Nessa tries to use the grimmerie to cast a spell but since she can't read it right she makes his heart small. So Elphaba has to turn him into something that doesn't need a heart. That's why and how he becomes the Tin Man. Please tell the story correctly.

ok yall r pissing me off w the “they went woke!” shit. the whole reason nessa is handicapped is bc it explains the existence of the magic slippers. that’s a major plot point in the novel AND the musical. this wasn’t a “woke” casting choice. and even if it was why do we give a fuck? there’s def criticism of fake activism here w the casting but ask yourself if THATS why you’re upset or if it’s just simply seeing a black and disabled actor on screen in a major role (as if nessa was ever more than just a pair of feet under a house but i digress). like oml why are we purposely being stupid 🤦 just admit you don’t wanna see black or disabled ppl in big roles! don’t shit on the story just because it doesn’t resonate with YOU personally. also in ref to them casting Cynthia as Elphaba: COLORISM and ABUSE OF POLITICAL POWER are the main themes of the wicked book, musical AND movie, so a woman of color playing elphaba makes WAY more sense than a white woman does (no disrespect to idina or the many other talented elphabas). at the end of the day she’s still painted green anyway. the story is literally abt society outcasting her because of her skin color. you don’t need to be an “SJW” to comprehend that, you just need basic media literacy. like if you don’t like musicals just say that, don’t shit on black and disabled ppl?? like you can criticize writing choices without being a dick to an entire group of ppl. that being said i really do wonder how they’re gonna handle the shoes in act 2 since marissa bode can’t actually walk 🤨 i hear she’s keeping her song from the musical but that song requires her to walk in the slippers. i doubt they’d do a body double just for that, so i wonder if they’ll just enchant them another way? def can’t wait to see how they’re gonna handle that in part 2 🤔

Tell me you haven't read the book without saying you haven't read the book. It is NOT in the slightest about colorism & no it does not "make more sense" that a woman of color plays Elphaba. The books major themes are the nature of evil, propaganda and terrorism. Elphaba's skin color was simply the device by which she was initially othered, but ultimately the story is about how she eventually internalizes claims the "evil" reputation she's been smeared with in order to keep people afraid of her. Also, if you've read the books you'd know that Nessa was never in a wheelchair and that she was given the slippers LONG before they were enchanted to help her walk.

1. In the books, Glinda is the Witch of the South but is the one who tells Dorothy how to get home meanwhile the actual Witch of the North was the one to greet Dorothy and instructs her to go to the Emerald City. For the 1939 movie, they combined the characters so Glinda was the Witch of the North and the one who tells Dorothy where to go and how to go home 2. Nessarose’s story is that she’s unhappy with how others view her as only the girl in the wheelchair and wants to be loved and seen beyond that
@TOONJERZEY4 күн бұрын
also to add on^^ the reason she’s in a wheelchair is to give the magic slippers an origin story. in the musical, nessa resents her wheelchair and wishes she could walk so she didn’t have to depend on others, so elphaba enchants her slippers and gives her the ability to walk. not sure abt the book but i think they serve the same purpose there too. both the shoes and the wheelchair serve as mobility aids.
