Why New World Lied To Us - My Theory

New World had their big announcement in June to the largest collective head slapping from the playerbase I've witnessed in my decade or more of playing MMO's. I have a theory as to why they lied.

AGS.... Does. Not. Give. A. Fuck. About. Us. The have consistently overpromised, underdelivered and demonstrated gross incompetence. I really wish this wasn't the case, those of us that have stuck it out know the amazing potential this game once had. I'm done defending it. Without some major shakeups in senior leadership, I don't see it coming back from where we find ourselves today.

Probably they are pushing console to October because is in general a much better time for sales than idk, July. And they have no idea about games, or gamers and community, we are like aliens from an unknown galaxy, decisions are made for people with expensive suit that ony follow the smell of cash, that's a fact. Check path of exile 2 and the connection between those devs and their community and players base. How they take feedback and support their community, even small content creators. Devs are hardcore games, and hardcore gamers of the game they work on, and you can CLEARLY see the difference between nerds gamers doing games vs corps doing games.

Yeah another example is Baldurs Gate 3. Fun fact: Path of Exile is made in NZ where I am from:) Honestly, I'm starting to think subscriptions are a smart choice for MMO's because it hurts their bottom line when people leave.

I think AGS tried to do a soft relaunch with brimstone sands but the bugs and failure to put out lasting content. Could not stop the players from leaving. Console is the make or break.

Interesting theory. I think it is a mixture of reasons why New World and AGS are at this point now. Remember release. 1 mio people wanted to play New World and AGS struggled to manage that because of bad game and server design. The past years they struggle to get those who left the game back into the game. It feels like somebody created New World and then he left and the actual AGS team had to deal with development, marketing, money etc. They were and are not ready for this. Me personal i dont expect anything, just play the game as long i have fun and hope that AGS is ready for october. I guess not many chances left for the studio and New World.

Im gonna go even further back here, where i think the shit hit the fan. I believe that back sometime after the expansion, someone higher up realized that its not selling enough. This was brought to the attention of the rest up there, and they just gave the devs an ultimatum that went something like "ok you failed, you had your chance and now you need to drop whatever you are working on and bring this game to console, and so, their hands were tied. After that, i pretty much agree with what you are saying, however, the reason they failed with the expansion and everything around it, is either because of incompetent devs, or lack of resources, but most likely both.

I fully believe this was 100% coming down from Amazon HQ and not AGS. Hartmann is a vet in the gaming industry and would have seen this backlash coming a mile away. Being that AGS cut 180 positions last year everyone put on the happy face and did what the suits in HQ told them to say.

They are trying to bring more money in not make their current player base happy. Nothing new there many companies do it but the communication was so poor that it made it even worst.

they basically played us.. the focus on a shift to a "new" console game must have been around for a long time. the PC player base has become for them irrelevant, other then as a testing platform, and used our number and money to continuing developing console. (all while acting there would be something great for us coming. "better then christmas") Also if u been since the start, u know how many huge embarrasments and mistakes and incompetentecy they have had/done over the year. they have completly shown how bad they are, and have ruined their image with the PC community allready, a long time ago. the PC playas know the game better then any NW dev or anyone on the ags team too. i think they are counting on heaps of casual console players, to give it another few years of revenue. and these casual players wont know, realise or even understand alot, and most wont know or understand the constant dissapoitment and mismanagment that NW is. first u fall in love with the game, and its combat..and it takes awhile till u start realising all the issues. and mostly only really dedicated playas, start seeing all the holes and issues, bugs n exploits etc.. in this game u have to test every lil thing out yourself. as there is no telling how things work, going by tooltips, numbers n infos etc. we have already found so many things that dont "work right", or have wierd synergies.. etc. there is def also an issue with the game just not coming across as being made by skilled devs and gamers. every patch brings so many bugs and serious issues.. that are only ever fixed (often repeatedly, to no avail) when the PC base, shows it to all, and makes a big deal outta it. even when bugs are reported on ptr, they raely do nything about it. only when too many people know. So it will prolly take awhile, for console players to get frustrated with the game (im ghonna help tho, ha) so AGS can "start over", with a clean sheet. and console players usually dont get into games like PC playas do anyways. there will be heaps of just casual pve players, and thats perfect for ags and NW atm. its all just been a business strategy, and we PC customers have long been hated by them. they prolly cant even apoligise anymore to us, while keeping a straight face. at some point it just becomes embarrasing

I'm not sure about console players not been serious, the ones on ESO XBox were real serious about the game. I am sure they think console players won't complain but my experience on ESO is they will be similar to the PC players and then they'll have both sides yelling at them.

Nah. They did decide to drop pc probably after BS when numbers did drop again. And they didn't tell us 6 months ago there is nothing coming just to milk as much as they can for next 6 months. We just were paying for closed beta for last 2.5 years.

So there were two engines. The DX11 version we have been playing in, and the DX12 Azoth Next Gen engine. The older engine had a lot of inefficient script language that had lots of problems esp when it came to available CPU cycles and the network stack. The DX12 version has more compiled languages used like C which is rewrites of what were currently playing on. At some point last year they decided to snap the line and push all efforts into getting the DX12 version out which was required to push to console. Without DX12 they cannot employ FSR on consoles to get good frame rates and they would never be able to launch on console or it would be so poorly optimized people would have problems playing the game on consoles. Same problem with the scripted languages the CPU's would suffer compared to a compiled language. I suppose AGS decided to not shut the game down and just farm us for datapoints and get this new version out and work to claw back a player base from that side of the equation.

Could be something in your theory but I think they are just badly managed. They are not run by gamers - they are run by money people. They are stupid on the communications point. There actually is a lot of good things in the update they could have highlighted albeit way too far away. They looked embarrassed and insincere in their presentation to me. They should have handled it the way Diablo IV did with their October Expansion. Here is what is coming and right now we are giving you this. (They gave a new feature pet, and some cosmetics if you preorder.

Who cares at this point, everyone thinks they will expose AGS and bring them down. When the game is actually fun, and we as a community has shaped this game with ideas and inputs. Take a Break, its ok to take breaks.

I think they're using this console release as a test bed for their LOTR content so when/if they ever release that they can release on PC/Console at the same time. Why not extract lessons-learned from their failed game. Console also represents their last grasp at expanding the player base.

I left the game when the battle pass came in, you should have done the same, the game doesn't improve, they just implement failed systems and remove them. Think how much dev effort was wasted on things like red stones? Stop playing this dogshi game, that's how you vote. Move on.
