In my opinion, music is all about promotion and awareness, and Nigerians have excelled at doing exactly that. When we look back at the time when Hip Hop was an underground genre, the pioneers globally promoted it and brought it to the forefront. Similarly, Nigerians have successfully promoted Afrobeats, putting it on the map and making it a well-known and popular genre.
@menzimngadi6793

It's only one factor. The quality of the artists is downplayed here. I can give an example. Amapiano in South Africa has developed or attracted the kind of talent that made the genre the biggest in popular culture. There have been other dance genres but production was lame and musicians relied in European music an beats.

What hes getting at is pride. From my time in ghana eye can say that ghanians are not inherently as proud to be ghanaian as nigerians are about their nationality. Nigerians set the trend, whilst ghanaians as a culture are still looking to thr oitside for validation. Just my observation. Eye think twi is a beautiful language. And trust me as americans we dont know whay they saying in half the nigerian songs either. But we listen just the same. Imagine how many ppl dont understand english, but still bop american music. Its because it soinds good + the clout of being adjacent american culture (infliential) thats been created. If ghanaians hype up their country from all corners of the globe, then the music will spread.

how many times do we say this... Step 1. Have the Talent = 15% ( Step 2: Get the Swag, flare =5% Step 3: Get the beat (Most Nigerian Afrobeat or hip-hop have lyrics that will score zero): 20% Step 4: Music Business : 50% Step 5: Be Unique = 10% (the longer you keep comparing, the longer you wait to catch up). I can tell you clearly, Nigerian Music industry did not have any plan or blueprint to blow. up They dont even have a functional association. PMAN has been dead for years. People who go into music do so for the business knowing well that is what guarantees ROI. Ghana be unique and force sell your agenda. Seed into the cultural reinforcement and it will yield.

Bro what the host said is the exact problem, Ghanaians can never transcend musically because Everything is geared towards the local audience and everything is twi twi twi, you have to mix it up a bit so you don’t alienate outside listeners and even our beats need some modernization itself which Nigerian have already done because todays Afrobeats is highlife and azonto put together
@nanaaraj
@nanaaraj Жыл бұрын
Even in Nigerian music, they mix English with yoruba or Igbo but not as often. Majority of the time, they will use pidgin which is kind of easier for others to get because it’s broken English. I’m British Ghanaian and proud to be Ghanaian. Our music is more often mixed with Twi and pidgin which makes it harder for them to be understood.
