I love how it’s like the two different reasons people include Nightmare and Killer as a duo. One side being- “HE NEEDS A SIDEKICK SO HE CAN SHOW OFF HOW EVIL HE IS!!” And the other being- “HE NEEDS A BOYFRIEND SO HE CAN SHOW OFF HOW SWEET HE CAN BE!!” And then there’s just the people on the side just watching. Also I just imagine Dust and Horror also in the bed, one trying to sleep and the other munching on chips!

And, depending on how deep Ink was willing to go on explaining his job... Ink isn't the "protector of AUs" but the "protector of the Aus' script". So, if he explained this part, he did pretty much admit that yes, everyone is part of a story. This is why he tries not to interfere with a scripted part, as much as possible, hence trying not to be seen and stuff like this. (though, there is also times where he just actively makes the choice to look the other ways to give us some entertainment, such as with the ships)

from nightmare's perspective, I assume it's because he was drawn to killer's immense suffering, realized from the carnage that killer could be useful, but wanted a solid pawn. killer's emotionless means that nightmare doesn’t feel as tempted to torment him, and also that killer can't harm him by way of happiness. killer is a solid pawn, one that owes everything to nightmare and can't betray him, because night holds all of the power and killer has practically nobody else. he's both someone nightmare can see as a person rather than a power source to be exploited, and no person at all due to his lack of emotions... a perfect companion, in that way, because it means that nightmare can be himself. no worrying about consequences, as I'm sure one is bound to do when you're a creature whose effect on people affects you. killer is unique, disposable, and hard to accidentally toss into walls on purpose when nightmare gets angry. he really needs killer. killer's also the easiest person for nightmare to love. I bet nightmare also sees himself in killer (and really, all of them)... killer won't abandon him if nightmare terrifies him, either, because that would be very hard to accomplish. his intense loyalty makes him someone nightmare can trust... I don't think that's a small feat. nightmare can also trust *himself* around killer, that's a big deal. killer's safe, for him, and for a squid with godlike power, I don't believe nightmare often feels so secure. plus he's really portable and won't bat an eye if you pick him up-
