Just a suggestion, DP Review has a camera and lens “timeline” on their site. It covers most major manufacturers and actually gives the date when a camera or lens was announced. For example they list chronologically Nikon cameras from the present time back to 1997. They call it a “product data base”.

@joee6506 Thanks for the comment! I'll have a look at it-sounds useful.

@21upbowls You can take the red pill or the blue one, doesn't really matter to me.

I really miss my Z50. I hope they release a Z50ii.

@Ben_Stewart Maybe call it Z60, 70, etc.? Thanks for the comment!

I believe the Z8 is Nikon's answer to the Z7iii. I would say that the announcement this week will show a Z6iii as the new camera. I also feel that the Z50ii will be the second body this year. Nikon needs to produce a APS-c body with a little more horsepower to bridge the current Z50 and Zf. A Z50ii with the right internals could be a replacement for the D500. If they did a Z50ii right, I would consider it over a Z6iii. I currently have the Z6ii and Z8 and both bodies are fantastic.

@rdphoto2 Yep spot on. Whatever they call the new APSC camera, I hope it'll be a fully qualified camera body with top shelf capabilities. Nikon has product for the $600-900. I want to see what the $1200-1400 tier will bring. Thanks, as usual, for the comment!

I agree. I doubt Nikon releases a Z7III, unless its 60MP+ and more of an A7R5 competitor. The A7R4 was a total flop and the A7R5 is not exactly a big seller, so why bother. A Z50II or even better a Z70 with IBIS would be quite welcome. It doesn't need to be an APS-C version of the Z8.

I’m not sure we should expect a 500 5.6. It seems they’ve replaced the F-Mount 300 and 500 focal length with the 400 and 600 in the Z Mount. Not sure we need a 500 in the middle.

@steveblythe9504 Thanks for the comment! You may be right, the wife really likes the 600, I prefer the 400. But how many people shooting a 100-400 might buy a 500 5.6 prime? Nikon has smarter people than me and must've already given thought.

I agree it would be nice to have the 500. I have the 400 but can’t afford the 600 yet. I have the 1.4X TC to get the extra reach. I guess we have to think of the 400 replacing the 300 with extra reach rather than replacing the 500 but with less reach!! Maybe they’ll let Sigma fill the hole by putting a Z mount on their 500 5.6 which has had great reviews on the Sony mount.

Maybe Nikon Z mount will come on the excellent Sigma 500mm 5.6 DG DN OS Sports. I do not think Nikon will come with a new 500mm 5.6 for Z mount. I have the excellent Sigma 500mm for Sony E mount. Nikon need a new Z7III

A Z 500 f5.6 would be completely unnecessary at this time. The F 500 f5.6E PF is still a perfectly viable lenses on the Z mount via the adapter, and is is flanked by the Z 400 f4.5 and Z 600 f6.3 PF lenses. There are plenty of other priorities in the 200mm+ lens lineup. A 200mm F2, 100-300 f2.8, 300 f2.8, a high end version of the 100-400 but f4 and with a built in TC, 500 f4, and others.

@free-qe6wx Intriguing idea of an f2.8 300. Thanks for the comment!

@@folkartandcamera Personally, I think a Z 100-300 f2.8 would be the bigger seller, especially among the paid indoor sports crowd. A 300 f2.8 is a lot more of a niche lens. I just bought a used 10/10 condition F 300 f4E PF for 1/3 the new price, and while also a bit of niche lens it is very light, small, and a heck of a lot more hiking/travel friendly.

No 500 f5.6 because there is already a 180-600 f5.6 - 6.3 >> far more versatile and Ultra Sharp for a Non Z Lens
