Such a great video. First 10 seconds really hit home for me. Two years ago me and some college buddies did a reunion in Washington DC. It was the summer and the five of us decided to take a walk to the local liquor store and grocery store to stock up the Airbnb for the weekend. On the way a summer storm rolled in. One with almost dark gray/greenish clouds. It started to absolutely pour as we are walking with still about 10 minutes ago to the liquor store. Despite the absolute downpour, almost as a sign of complete indifference, all of us continue to just keep walking through it. Literally getting doused on as if we were getting sprayed with a hose. All the while we’re retelling old stories, and chopping it up like we’re back in school. We just kept walking without a care in the world. A few weeks after that weekend, I always thought about the power of that example. When you’re around the right people, the things that would’ve been an inconvenience to you and really slowed you down. Don’t matter in the slightest. And don’t delay even for a moment. This really ties together, the importance of having the correct mindset, and also hang out with people with that same mindset. Hope this is insightful for someone.

This information is very valuable but how to practice it? How be in the now? ActuallyI have found some very good tips or techniques from listening to Eckhart Tolle, nice! It makes it not only a piece of knowledge for the intellectual mind but shows how to practice it in daily life, while living.

Great questions. I think we all have a different answer to this. What happens in the now, is happening all around you all the time whether you want it or not. Why try to change it or wish it were different? You must adapt your reactions. Water, seemingly formless and submissive to its environment eventually causes its environment to change as well. Work on being present for those few things/people that matter most to you and remind yourself that you have love to share even with yourself.

“Letting go” by Dawkins is working for me as an engineer and systems thinker. I have “power of now” to read from eckhart that’s the more spiritual part from what I understand. Any other suggestions?

When someone insults person A, person A doesn't get flustered. When someone insults person B, person B gets flustered. For person A it comes naturally, and theuy don't know much about stoicism. Person B tries to apply stoicism after being insulted to remain indifferent by reminding themself that the words they hear are external. However person B does this several times and always seems to get flustered despite his efforts. How is person B supposed to fix this [subconscious] problem?

By choosing to accept/embrace their emotions rather than that of trying to suppress them merely through reason alone. Practices such as mindfulness, for example, can allow Person B to recognize the transient nature of emotions and respond to them more thoughtfully. Stoicism encourages reframing perspectives to focus on what is within one’s control, and thus, Person B can practice reframing insults as reflections of the speaker’s state of mind rather than objective truths about themselves. Moreover, I cannot stress how imperative the cultivation of self-worth independent of external validation is enough. In Person B’s case, working on self-acceptance and self-compassion can reduce the sting of insults. And speaking of desensitization, by the way-gradually exposing oneself to mild insults or criticisms in a controlled environment can help desensitize the emotional response over time, making it easier to remain indifferent in more intense situations. Finally, consider virtues like courage, temperance, and equanimity. By actively practicing and embodying these virtues, Person B can develop a more resilient character that is less susceptible to external provocations. This is all just scratching the surface of such concepts, by the way. If you need me to clarify anything, let me know. The short answer though here (for what it’s worth) is acceptance, my guy.

Cultivate self love and self belief first. Observe how you react to things and build self-awareness. When you are aware of yourself, you can try bit by bit to be more measured in your reactions. It takes time to develop new habits, but it's possible. I've seen myself change through the years from being a reactionary hothead to a calmer person who doesnt easily get flustered or rarely gets angry. I've was able to evolve by learning from stoic, Buddhist, Taoist and even Ekhart Tolle's teachings. I'm not perfect but I continue to learn and evolve. I wish the same for you...

, don't forget that he said in the video that the selective and controlled apathy or indifference comes as a result of meticulous reasoning. Therefore, person B needs to "map" him or herself, to learn and discover themselves, which means that they need to understand why they are being triggered by the insult. If an insult hurts us, on some level we probably do believe that about ourselves. The most important question to ask all the time is "why". After "what am I feeling?", we need to understand WHY we are feeling like that. Our duty is to understand ourselves better. Again, meticulous reasoning. Therapy comes in handy with this because sometimes we can't ask ourselves the correct questions because they simply don't occur to us.

Those who believe philosophy blindly and apply always fail.everyone should have its own reasoning skill beside philosophical ideas. Everyone has its own answer to life in his search.
