I worked for Frank Furber on the roofing, Peter, I was on the roof of the tower about 62/63, dismantelling the slated part. Douglas Fairbanks junior (actor) opened the bowling alley next to the fair, I was 15/16, great memories.

@@danno2036 I remember the bowling alley opening danno, a lot of my mates to worked for Frankie furber too, some say Gloria Swanson stayed at a home on Warren drive for a while with Fairbanks jnr .

Once the Tower and Pier went, the decline of New Brighton started, some businesses burnt down ( insurance jobs ) the indoor fairground declined, the swimming pool suffered in the famous “ Michael Fish” hurricane , the floral pavilion could be sacrificed if wirral council goes bankrupt. Sadly Kev,I can’t see the area improved

Where you started your video, that was the start of the promenade and ferry terminal ... they both ended around 1969/70 when the Tower building was burnt down.

There used to be a high speed hover ferry from moreton to rhyl but it went on fire

Hi KC. 👍 At 2 minutes 30 sec. I saw myself on your video! I was amongst the guys chatting at the bench near the Beatles plaque. I was with a couple of guys that could of told you a lot about the tower/ballroom & the fair that once occupied the green hill as one of the guys worked on the fare for many years. Just moments before you turned up the guy who played Mick Johnson in Brookside was sitting on one of the benches! Anyways, keep up the great work KC. 😎👍

You need to do about new brighton stadium which used to hold 80 000 people before it was demolished in the late 18 hundreds

Really enjoyed that one Kev. Fully agree that New Brighton has tons of potential as a cool leisure destination and residence, but not as a holiday resort. I'd love to see the tower and landing stage rebuilt, but to a modern design, as futuristic now, as the old ones were when they were built. At the turn of the 20th C Liverpool and environs was a futuristic city, with cutting edge facilities. It is only because we were in a slump for so long that we ended up with just heritage to obsess over.

Hi KC, read up about New Brighton Tower FC. Who played at the ground you mentioned in the video. They were elected to the football league after initially being rejected but due to an expansion of the football league. New Brighton Tower FC were accepted into the football league division 2. They struggled to attract the crowds with only around 1000 per game and therefore their life in the football league was short lived when the club disbanded in 1901. They even finished 4th in Division 2 one season. The were reformed in 1921 as New Brighton FC playing at a different ground and then later back at the old ground where the tower was. Think they ended up in the football league third division north. Even reached the FA Cup 4th Round 4 times. Even lost one of those to Tottenham

if the area round the NBT had the money that blackpool fetched in, year in year out then they could have rebuilt it to have 2 "las vegas" style places in the UK would be a proper money spinner for the north west

I remember my Mother telling me she used to go dancing there at the weekend, they had to rush to get the last ferry back to get home to Bootle before her Dad bolted the front door, this would have been in the late 50's / early 60's, she said it was amazing.

I'm a "southerner", live abroard for years, but know of the Tower and what it once was... forget how or why though. You're right, it "could" be a money spinner if it came back, but who's got the money nowadays to risk on such a build. Also, if there was a market for such a thing, then why is the rest of the holiday infrastructure there going to pieces, falling apart, not succeeding? Blackpool is also no longer what it was, despite it's tower!

New Brighton had a pier and there's was a ferry which ran from Liverpool and Woodside and Seacombe ferry is stop running about 1971 My dad and family was on that last ferry to sail there New Brighton also had one of the biggest outdoor swimming pool in Europe and the water was bloody cold even on a hot day ..My playground when I was 4 yes old

This is something that I had no idea about until about 10 minutes ago. There is such potential for the area that would bring in tourists & revenue. These isles hold a lot of treasures that need to be brought back to life. Of course money is the killer of it, but a mix of private & public funds could enrich the area & its people. I have heard of New Brighton but knew nothing about it. Fabulous beach. 🏖 I hoped you were going to build a sandcastle. 😄

The sports ground had a capacity of 80,000 and held stock car racing and New Brighton Football Club who were in the football league members from 1923 to 1951 New Brighton also had a pier with a ferry terminal at the end

Well every days a school day never knew that and even bigger than black pools cant believe i`ve never heard or anyone mentioned it, used to be there all the time at the bike jumps before they built the new shops

Hiya Kev, great video, I used to work at the indoor fair so have happy memories of New Brighton. Not sure if you’re aware part of a film was shot there ‘Let him have it’ the Croydon high street scenes were shot there, back in 1990, since most of it has been demolished, Victoria road. Also would you do a video about the ‘brick beach’ in Crosby? 😊

Liverpool and the Wirral have lost many great buildings and structures due to greed and corruption by councillors and town planners if these great buildings were in London they would of been saved, there's a book called it all came tumbling down about buildings they demolished rather than save in Liverpool,youd like it
