A Paul McCartney album revisiting classic Beatles tracks with help from members of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and his old Fab Four bandmates should have been a slam dunk. Instead, the messy, unfocused 'Give My Regards to Broad Street' caused McCartney's decade-long winning streak to come to a crashing halt. "Doomed to fail?!" The album was #1 on the UK charts! I liked the album very much back in 1984 and I like it just fine right now. I thought that Paul's work with George Martin back in the early 80's was very good and it was when he started pulling away from George Martin - that was when I had a difficult time appreciating Paul's work. Was it as good as "Tug of War" or "Pipes of Peace?" I wouldn't say so, but considering what they were trying to do with that project - that doesn't surprise me...but I still thought it was good. Certainly not a "failure!" The movie - it was MTV brain candy. There was a lot of that going on in the day.

I was in the theater the night the movie opened. There may have been half a dozen others there. I was embarrassed to have dragged a friend along. I was working at a record store at the time. I usually found something on each of Paul's albums to recommend them, but I don't remember ever recommending this album to anyone.

Um, forgive me UCR, but how can you call this piece, “Doomed to Fail”, when the narrator used the line, “… with so many power-players this should have been an unqualified success …”? Either it was doomed to fail-in the prescient way the title suggests-or, it should have been an unqualified success. It can hardly be both. Just a thought. A lovely day to all at UCR.

Some of the re recorded Wings and Beatles track were good! Plus No More Lonely Nights was good! It isn’t as good as his other material, but it’s not that bad.

I rather enjoyed it. It felt like a pet project. The soundtrack was better than the movie for sure, but I still enjoyed it...

If always loved the album and I even love the picture, there are many ,many films and soundtracks that are much worse. It came around a time that every body was into Lennon who was shot in 1980 and Paul couldn't to anything right anymore.

I loved the Beatles. Liked some of Paul's solo work (and some from Wings) but I was not a fan of this
