lol don't let all these "mom and pop" shops fool you. It's still ghetto af with major gang activity. highland park, dog town, avenues, etc just because you see chad and susan walking their dog doesn't mean its a nice neighborhood.

At least it's Chad and Susan and not Ken and Karen!

I grew up in Glassell Park, adjacent to Highland Park in the 1960’s to early 1970’s. It was a quaint town at that time. Saw the decline for awhile, but glad to see the entire northeast LA area getting better, at least I hope it is! I probably spent more time in Eagle Rock, but also spent a lot of time in Highland Park. Haven’t been back there for years though!

I remember buying a set of wheels in Highland Park in the 1980's. I felt like I was being watched. The seller yelled out that I was with him, no problem.

Wow, that sounds scary, glad it's not like that anymore, at least as far as I can tell.

I lived in highland park from late 1997 to 2005. I went back in December 2019 to visit my dad and sister and I saw nothing but white folks, I almost thought I was in a lower level Beverly hills lol.

It was a great place to grow up in the 60's and 70's. There were so many garage bands and just about every race was presented ,,,, I live in a small town in Wisconsin (aka hell) now,

@@LosAngelesLiving Hell yes brother i miss beaches but not all the people, I live in River Falls WI the topography is a lot like HP rolling hills..River Falls lacks culture of any kind and the side walk suffers are weak and the bands suck,,,,

It is still very high crime. Many murders and shootings right now like the two dead bodies they found in the famous "pit". I feel sorry for anyone spending so much money only to be surrounded by murders.

@@joelopez7459 Yes, many of the violent crimes are completely random. College students from Occidental College get pistol-whipped and robbed there all the time.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn where I grew up and still live, is the template for urban gentrification. Ya having seen nothing yet!!!!

I thought that too in 2013 but much hasn't changed. Los Angeles is completely different than New York. Things have been the way they here for a very long time. Gentrification hasn't been very successful here at all despite all the resources they expend to deceive people in order to get them to pay ridiculous high rent and prices. In other words, to rob people.
