my childhood dog growing up was a pitbull and her name was myah. my single dad told me that when he was too worried that he couldnt leave the house and feel confident that we would be safe, thats when he got the dog, myah truly took me and my sister in like her children. she completely understood the family aspect of things. she understood what her role was and she fit it perfectly. she had a fight in her that you wouldn’t believe, but also a love in her heart for all of us that no one would be able to match. she was willing to fight anything that was a danger to our family, and she would growl at anyone who stepped in the door until my dad said it was fine. my dad used to playfully hit us with like paper towel rolls and myah would tear them the fuck up, she would get genuinely angry, but not at my dad, at the object. eventually cancer robbed us of her, the doctors gave her 2 months to live, but that fight in her kept her alive for 22 months more than that. she survived and kept pushing until my sister moved out. nothing mattered more to her than us. my heart will always be with that dog. ❤

I take this literally. You shouldn’t own a dog you can’t overpower, outmuscle and physically dominate. You should raise it with kindness, love and fairness- but you should be able to yank it in any direction if required. It pisses me off seeing women with dogs that can drag them along. You want to say “stop pissing around, take control of your dog and pull it away” and they can’t, they are too physically weak. That means in emergencies, they can’t control their dog and someone’s pet or child might suffer. You LITERALLY need to be able to control your dog with your physical presence, or you shouldn’t have that dog.

I,v known multiple people with pit bulls, both of them had very different personalities. One of them was an older pit bull, female and black and white. She was very laid back and not very rowdy at all. The other one was very young, not a puppy but at least 2 or 3. Also female, all black and extremely hyper. Both were very sweet dogs but me personally, I'm not sure I could ever own a pit bull as a pet. I have a mild fear of dogs, especially scary looking ones.

That’s interesting. I’ve never heard that before. We got our lab/pit mix, when he was 9 weeks old. Super sweet, gentle, and great with kids. However, walking him was proving challenging. He wants to meet every dog we come across, and pulls hard. I tried every collar and harness available. Finally, with a mix of the pinch collar AND reward training him, he’s mostly broken of that bad habit. Just a pinch or shock collar absolutely would’ve done zero to stop him, though. He’s never fought, or been aggressive, but he’s so strong! Now that he’s 3 years old, and chilled out, I’d say he’s the best dog I’ve ever had. He wants to please his people, he just don’t understand how big and strong he is sometimes.

And when our Mom was passing away from stage 4 lung cancer back in 2010, Crazy sat beside her bed with his head resting on the bed just so she could touch him & pet him. He knew that she needed him near & wouldn't leave her all night long. She passed the next morning & Crazy didn't leave her side. Thank God for that precious dog. They don't have gigantic heads either. A lot of people will call it a pitbull if it has a big head and it's short and it's muscular those aren't even pit bulls and they get blamed all the time. I miss my pit bull Oscar. He was rescued from a horrible family that were giving him roids, using him as a fight dog, and beat him with a shovel. When I met him we bonded like crazy. He’s right about the level of connection that you get with pit bulls. Had one pretty much for my entire 20s, went through some of the worst and best times of my life with her. She passed away pretty suddenly a few years back and it devastated me in a way I don’t think I’ve ever felt before and I’ve had my fair share of loss. Their ability to empathize is such that they sort of become a part of you and when they go a part of you does too.

When I first moved out I moved into a house my cousin bought with a few of our friends. He was the first to get a dog & it was this runt of a pitbull litter. I've never seen a dog play that intensely to this day. Full send every time. She'd make herself start bleeding regularly from missing a bite on a frisbee or not realizing how exhausted she was & hurting herself. She died at 6 & it still hits me many years later. She was the first dog I ever helped raise & one of the oddest dogs I've ever known. She didn't care for direct attention, but would still come cuddle in your lap or next to you when she wanted to. An absolute sweetheart & one of the best dogs to just have around.

Yup, had pits my whole life and each one I've raised from puppyhood was always slightly skittish and I never hit or even really swat my dogs, only a butt swat if they do something horribly wrong otherwise I just raise my voice and they understand lol if trained right they wouldn't dream of attacking though the high fatal attack rate in the US is because they're also the number 1 most abused dog in the US, like who WOULDN'T wanna get rid of their abuser?

Well their reputation is well earned, and well documented so you have to be vigilant especially around children. If I had a nickel for every friend who’s owned a pit/s and told me their dogs/pups are harmless, well trained, so sweet and emotional, would never hurt a fly. But The next time You’re over to their house, the dogs in a muzzle in a crate and some 4 year old cousin who thought the dogs tail was a tug of war rope just got out of the hospital. It’s dog bread to be very emotional (good for fighting) and be able to crush and tear other dogs necks appart. The bully breed was developed in England for pit fights once the normal Fox hunts and other blood sports became to expensive and illegal.

Everything Joe said is spot on. I have an AmStaff and she's the sweetest, most friendly dog ever, and the biggest cuddler too. She's a 70lb lap dog. She's not fat either, she's in really good shape, she's just big for her breed and all muscle. We got her at 6-9 months old, and at first she was more than a handful. She was so out of control in fact that I suggested we take her back to the pound at one point. But we got her trained (amateurly, but it worked) and over the past couple years she's become my favorite dog ever. Like, I don't think I'll ever have anything else but a Pitbull. I can take food out of her mouth and she just gives me that sad, "What did I do" look. She also has those huge teeth and she's STRONG. Like, scary strong. If she wanted to kill me, she probably could and I'm a fairly big guy. 6'1, 190ish and fairly fit. If I'm not carrying and she decides to kill me, she's got a high chance of winning.

My friend had a big ass pit bull he named “Titan”. He was always happy to see new people when they came over; never showed an ounce of aggression. Although you could tell he was totally willing go full Cujo on anyone who messed with “his humans.” This dog was 120 pounds of mouth, muscle, and as tall as a Lab. He had a head bigger than a basketball. He was about 4 years old when he had his first daughter. One day we were out in his back year when she was learning how to walk. I got a little nervous when she walked over to the dog and started playing with his face and tail (this dog could have fit her entire head in his mouth). I said something to my friend and he told me not to worry “they’re best friends.” The dog gave her giant licks to the face and she fell down. The dog layed down right next to her rolled over and expected a belly rub. Titan lived to about 13 or 14 and died well at home. I think just about everybody who ever met him cried a little when he passed.

Pitbulls are not horrible dogs. Literally for 5 years I’ve had the *sweetest* pitbull that loves *EVERYBODY*. It was a rough start at first, but she got trained and wouldn’t hurt a fly. My pitbull was adopted by me and my family from a foster care after found in California being bread and abused, and used for dog fighting. So yes at the time she was a bit aggressive. My mother rescued a pitbull. She can't control him and she was a champion dog trainer. He had gotten loose once and mauled another dog so badly it had to be put down. He's on a list and chipped where if he's ever caught loose or hurts anyone or anything he will be put down. He's a good dog around me. I'm not naive though. The only thing I look forward to with that dog is not having to worry if or when he'll kill again. I just hope when that day comes the ground is soft when I'm digging.

@@mattmarzula Your mother is clearly not a ‘champion dog trainer’ then is she. Trigger had mauled other animals, due to the abuse and fighting he had been made to do by previous owners. That isn’t the dogs fault, or the breeds fault. It’s the HUMANS fault. If the dog doesn’t respect you, it will not listen to you, it will be aggressive and hostile. So you have completely countered your own point. Your mother clearly doesn’t know much about raising pit bulls if she could never get it to stop mauling other animals, again, my dog was abused terribly, by several owners and used as a fighting dog in his youth and I got him to stop. 👍 Don’t come here spreading bad stories about pit bulls when actually it’s just your family don’t know how to handle it. Which there can be many reasons for, none of which are the dog itself. The dog clearly has/had trauma that was unresolved If she couldn’t/can’t control him, she should give him away to someone who can, a farm is what I recommend as they love to work.

He's 100% right .. I remember one time my boy Ruger was laying in my lap after a huge fight with my gf at the time. Everytime I would start to think about the fight and getting riled up in my head, he would start licking my hand as if to say " bro, it's okay.. I got you. I love you bro" I'll never forget that or Ruger. He was the best and taken way to soon. I put a Ceresto flea collar on him last September and it killed him before Christmas 😭. It's been a year and I still think about him every day... He was my best friend...

My sister boyfriend has a 4 month pitbull she is so sweet she learned three command in one day recall sit and down all three of us trained her she has never barked she is so quiet I recommend pitbull for owners with a bit of experience

My neighbor had a pitbull and after about a year, for some reason it was outside with the child and it bit the child's face and neck, had to be put down. Kid almost died

Pitbulls wanted me over about 20 years ago I got mine and she was the sweetest thing in the world she hated violence she would actually get in the middle of two people who are arguing and bark at both of them because she wanted them to stop fighting and she knew fragile people from regular people like she knew my grandfather was older and more fragile and she would climb up on the couch so slow And gentle and insure way up to him and lay her head on his lap and she loves babies no matter what species of animal or human she loves all babies

Well I have the exact opposite story. You are lucky the baby was not mauled. Ours attacked on 2 separate occasions a total of 3 children under 8. If I had not seen it on video I'd never have believed it. A neighbor set our Garbage cans in our backyard and didn't close the gate properly. That led to the near death of 2 kids and the dog rightfully being put down by the city. This dog was loved and exercised and kids were a trigger for it.

I had one and she was the sweetest thing. We didn't raise her but she had been a stray that stayed nearby all the time and eventually she never left or yard and she never hurt anything even our aggressive dog.

Me and my Family we’ve had 2 Pits rescue, as baby they were shaking for fear of people, 1 week later they were sleeping on the sofa with us. One of them died at Cancer after 10 Years the 2 one still with us, without a single aggression event in 12 Years. The lovely dogs i ever had
