I think the reason sales dip in May,June and July is because people who are in to plants and have a home, shift their focus to outdoor gardening. I know I do. That has much more to do with it than vacations. Also, local box stores and grocery stores load up for the summer. Don’t need to pay shipping fees when you can get it locally. Love my online retailers, but spring and fall are my shopping times for online. Winter cold and the need to buy heat packs when I ship, makes buying online less attractive Nov- April.

That’s a really great point!! There’s endless factors

From my perspective, and based on Google Trends data, the weather seems to be a more significant factor in plant sales fluctuations. In my country, where the climate is steady across regions, plant sales remain consistent throughout the year, except for a dip in November, December, and January, which I attribute more to seasonal weather changes than to other factors. It’s interesting how regional differences can shape our experiences in the plant market.

oh, I've lost plants in September, but that is part of living in Florida because we tend to have hurricanes that month. I have lost plants in shipping because the seller sent the plant and it failed to arrive before the hurricane and sat in a box an extra week in HOT weather. I've also had plants in my collection just crap out after a hurricane because power was out a week and it was dark and the air was hot and stagnant. I lost so many after Ian I decided to put in a whole house generator so the A/C will run and so will the grow lights.

One thing I don't think you mentioned is that families with school-age children will often wait to the of the school year during the summer to move house. No one wants to buy plants if they are planning to move in June-August.

Thank you so much for that information! It so helps to know how the market works on a monthly basis it also gives me ideas of what I need to do when I open up my shop next year. Great job love your channel.🪴

So happy it helps! Just remember it’s anecdotal, and there’s some great stories in the comments too! Unsolicited advice for opening shop next year: take your time doing it-we’re in 50/50 chance for macroeconomic recession in the USA. Retail spaces should be cheap, but there has already been a consumer pullback in discretionary goods (ex: houseplants) Let’s hope it recovers after fed cuts interest rates

May and September - yes! This is the only time when you can get your new plant alive with minimal shipping cost. Trusted sellers have not just "summer" and "winter" shipping costs, they offer a big spectrum from USPS cheapest cardboard to a hundred-something UPS or FedEx overnight. If you really want the plant RIGHT NOW, don't try to save on shipping. That's it.

I'm a number's geek so I really find the data useful. The holidays do sell plants but they are VERY specific types like poinsettia and anything that resembles a xmas tree. Both do well, potted or in-ground and we've the perfect weather in L.A. to keep them outdoors all year. I'll check out your ferts, you got 'em for both soil and semi hydro set ups?

I guess I'm an oddball out. I order as many as my budget allows every 2 weeks. Finding out about TC plants this year feels like I found a treasure chest and I may have gone a little crazy on it, but when I seen those plants that I really liked over the last few years that are outside my budget, that now cost significantly less and it has a better chance to thrive in my environment because that's what it grew up in, it's like crack. A good example is my Thai Con. I wanted one for years but I think the first time I seen it, it was hundreds of dollars. All I can say is I have a newly found and great appreciation for what you and the others are doing. It's been an amazing spring and summer for me because of it. Would you mind holding onto a Panda Galaxy War and a Spiritus Sancti until the 14th? ..... J/K i know its first come, first serve but if they're still on sale I'm going to buy them.

Haha I’ve been scouting spiritus lately too 😂 But I keep holding off. They’ve really entered a tempting price range, but I think they’ll continue to drop. And I’m trying to be real with myself and ask “do I love this plant or do I love the history of it?” Not that I’m trying to dissuade you!! I’ve just been having this internal battle that my friends don’t understand because they don’t know plants 🤣 But I realized that if I did get one and grew it out… I do *not* have a place for a plant of that size and shape 🤣 Still so so cool though

This year I stopped buying plants in summer, other than cacti bc I'm in AZ and everywhere I look there is disease and rust fungi. My birthday is in June, so I did a big plant haul and introduced the rust disease to my collection. Now I have less plants than I did before I bought 15 new plants 😢 I decided to swear off plant buying until local plant diseases are more under control. Its most likely my own fault, I've never delt with this issue so I wasn't really looking out for it. Lesson learned.

I buy most of my plants in the summer, so you’re welcome sellers 😜 I do also buy plants in January thanks to that sweet sweet Christmas cash 😂 But living in New Hampshire, summer is the best time for me to order rare plants. Even if the seller is experiencing a heat wave, a cold pack could get the plant through long enough for it to reach more tolerable temps on my end of the trip. But I haven’t needed to order a cold pack so far since I pay attention to weather on both ends. However in the fall or spring, some sellers can’t add a heat pack for me because it’s still too warm on their end, even though it’s too cold at night on my end to go without. So January and summer are sweet spots for me ☺️ And I’ve had some sellers cut me some tasty deals this summer as a repeat (and polite) customer while sales are slow Edit: to address your points, I’d be an exception to several major factors, so my opposite behavior makes sense with your theories. For example, I am home most of the summer and enjoy focusing on my on plants and don’t really travel

I sell the most in December surprisingly! The 10 days before Christmas are INSANE. I sell on Etsy but am looking at my own website due to high fees as you’ve spoken about. I ship from Texas and shipped right through the hot weather and fortunately have never had an issue.

Hmmm interesting!! We used to sell on Etsy (80% of our sales) and December was so slow! Which types of plants do you focus on selling?
@anneplemons
@anneplemons 2 ай бұрын
@@prettyingreenmainly just different types of monstera, recently had more focus on some of the more rare types. I’ve been very surprised that so many people would order during the dead of winter but definitely the busiest time for me. Almost all being Christmas presents for others! This year should be interesting since I’m transitioning away from albos as the market is quite saturated, so we will see if the demand is there.

I love that beautiful syngonium you offer with the vibrant orange and green leaves. But I couldn’t order it the last two times you offered it because I live on the desert side of Oregon and it was too hot. I can only reliably order spring and fall, but even then sometimes it’s a risk because of our cold nights.

I wonder how this is dependent on the market or types of plants one sells. I wonder how it works for Anthuriums and those are hard core 365 collectors. I HOPE it's not the same! How do you think that affects the data? In Anthuriums, the selling prices are going down right now. It seems there are only like several months that are good. Summer is bad, winter is bad. So spring and fall are our months.
@prettyingreen
@prettyingreen 2 ай бұрын
I’m sure it changes based on the plant you’re selling. Lots of good data in these comments! Anthuriums probably do great spring fall, with little dips down in winter and summer
