Three days into the meta, and this much is clear: Stealing buddies is highly imbalanced. Anything that gives opportunity to combo buddies with other buddies has tremendous potential to highroll. And then highroll again... and again... and again...

Great video as always! This was one of the craziest high rolls I’ve ever seen, not in terms of final board but just how quickly you got insanely strong, for the last few turns it really didn’t matter what you did the game was practically over already

19:48 "How do you make games last longer?" There are more knobs available than just flattening board states. It would _work,_ don't get me wrong, but everyone loves getting a runaway condition, so simply removing them isn't ideal. Making the game longer _despite_ a runaway condition is better IMO. Not necessarily much longer, but longer all the same. Lower damage cap would keep everyone in longer, as would keeping the cap until two people are dead instead of just one. Or make the damage cap increase with the number of dead players. 10 with everyone alive, 15 with 7 alive, 20 with 6 alive, unlimited with 5 alive, that sort of thing. Alternately, more health/armor across the board could have a dramatic effect if enough was added. Being able to do 40 in a single round wouldn't be as wild if everyone could take 80. Being able to go from unhurt to dead instantly is a bit much. Armor as damage reduction instead of ablation could also be interesting, but that's a massive refactoring effort I'm sure, and then a whole new balancing act.

Interesting take for sure. I'd argue that runaway conditions are the core problem causing effective game length to be short. I'd consider that none of these make the game competitive for any longer. Just keeping people alive when they've already fallen too far behind to compete isn't enjoyable for anyone. Making power of boards closer allows for more impactful choices each turn. Keeping people alive but having power super spread allows you to spend another 1-2 turns simply spinning your wheels without meaningful choices to recover. Changes to delay death just incentivize even more powerleveling midgame to increase the chance you hit these runaway conditions, since you can't be kicked out of the game as quickly with weak boards. Yes, dying turn 8 sucks, but that should be more tied to risk/reward of choices rather than midgame matchup rng imo. There's a bit too much of that in recent patches. Lich B and (currently) Scabbs are huge culprits. FWIW, I don't think the game needs to be longer to finish (total number of turns). I want all of the turns to feel like choices matter though. Rather than these last two metas which have clear leaders who are insurmountable a vast majority of the games by turn 6-8 and 1-3 people with bad midgame rng sitting at 5-15 hp by turn 7. All that being said, this meta is fun. The discussions are to make the game more competitive and increase agency. That's not ultimately the goal for Blizz. Fun is pretty important in games lol

The 2 games I've had so far with ETC seemed way too easy. I don't know if I'm just highrolling with my discovers, but stabilizing and making at least top 4 felt simple.

yeah he's crazy good. The highrolls are nuts and the lowrolls are usually at least salvageable.

Isn't more valuable to roll with golden elise than picking up non-economy neutrals?

Depends on the lobby and amount of gold per turn/next Elise proc. Basically hardroll Elise is 2x neutral + 2x (4/12 of a neutral or w/e odds are for ur specific lobby) for net 7g. Playing any neutral is 1 proc per 2g. There are many other considerations, like is uther relevant, the value of next board for efficient neutrals, brann value, glowscale value etc, orgo gold, etc. Both lines come out super close so u have to gauge the turn each time based upon exact how much gold/rolls u have available. If u can efficiently play the next Elise proc it’s typically better simply to end on a mantid or orgo if greeding

do you really want games to be longer? can only speak for myself, but games being short isnt necessarily a bad thing. more explicit variation in compositions, faster development of optimal curves etc etc. i don't really get why people insist on giga statted turn 18 endgames being the best form of bgs

I really don't think they need to be longer. I just want games to be more competitive for longer. People hitting runaway conditions on turn 8-9 effectively end the game. It's just a matter of 4-5 more turns to work out all of the placements. Without these runaways, those 4-5 turns would be way more entertaining. We're playing them anyway... might as well make them interesting.

@@bofur 'people' as in lich imbazal or gallywix? Or does it have less to do with the hero discrepancy and more with fundamental limit breaks like hitting a token on turn 1 or tripling into a specific minion? Too many garbage heroes and shitty 4/5 stars and the reality of not hitting a token limiting your play
