Pogaçar gets KOM after 5 hours in the saddle and whistle his way to the podium. He should get comedy lessons at least to pretend he worked hard. Not even. Yet people want to believe. I seem to remember explanations of LA's "ability" being that his heart pumped blood at a higher rate or something. Whatever it was, it sort of seemed to make a little bit of sense, but then within 2 years of that, it all fell apart. Poggy's "excuse" if you want to call it that, is that he "recovers better" than everyone else. I find that less believable, even though he is very young still. Honestly, I have had some beers after riding and other exercises and it felt refreshing, so I believe that. Bottom line: I believe Poggy is better than all of the rest because he is DRIVEN and can push past the rest, and yes, watching the Giro 2024, I think he has gotten better

So much so to the point that ok cat 4s have become cat 1 national champions without a US Postal Service level team helping them. Cycling benefits from the image of puny men. These guys dope just as much as many bodybuilders do. They simply don't give off the same obvious visual markers.

These videos always make me laugh. Love the information in conjunction to the sarcasm. I reckon that the peleton is practically all on drugs. It is just teams like UAE & Visma a lot of money and have the best pharmacists. But heck even knowing this, cycling is still a grand spectacle. I feel for the cyclist in their health in later years. When there is so much sponsorship and money involved there is so much pressure on these young impressionable athletes. I think that they are used and abused. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone what they do. I just think the blame doesn't go high enough. The UCI clearly knows the extent of the drugs; but brings out an occasional scape goat to calm and distract the masses. I get tired after a week of commuting, let alone a grand tour.

Cyclists are getting faster, some of the reasons aside from tech. Well-known is Maurten Bi-carb to reduce lactic acid/hydrogen ions. We all know about the increased amount of carbs/hour that can be consumed. We also all know about altitude training and hypoxic tents/chambers/hotels. Then there are the improved training methods e.g. the Norwegian system. Less known is the use of Tapentadol, especially by pro cyclists, a WADA legal and a powerful opioid painkiller. Also less known is the use of hyperbaric chambers, 95%+ O2 at 1.5 to 2.0 ATM. Elites are using these esp. for recovery (as you note Pogacar uses one as do I right now). Then there are legal 50ml non-intravenous NAD injections that boost stamina. Not well understood is the consumption of fibre which the gut ferments to create SCFAs of which butyrate can provide 10% more energy. Similarly the positive effects of an abundance of Firmicutes in the gut esp. the genus Odoribacter which create butyrate and energy as above. I can provide a long list of supplements that boost mitochondria.
