They can literally do Chath puja at any water bodies (Be it Ghats, swimming pools etc..) I have even seen people doing this in a tub. But they *chose* to do this on Yamuna river. God had given alternatives to people but it's people who are taking this route.

Let's be honest religion is such a soft target i see here criticism of bihari but major pollutants in water are not related to relogious rites at all dumping of sewage , chemicals , garbage in water bodies is cause for major more than 95 percent of polluted water Just like the supreme court bans crackers on diwali but crackers don't even cause more than 20 to 40 points increase in aqi But the aqi days before diwali has already in severe above 400 or in very serious more than 350 After diwali it increased from 380 to 420 what about the 380 if we are gonna die of polllution better to celebrate diwali for a night how did the aqi went to this level Days before diwali all factories are in production mode and all waste is poured in river bodies But people who are criticizing these people don't see yamuna was polluted before they arrived for chhath Puja Instead of being keyboard warriors and having opinion for being racist or just looking down on these people better to watch a documentary on pollution in rivers or simply searching major causes of pollution in water and what are major contributor and to hiw many percent

They should go to the Municipal office and drag out those people and ask questions. They should make sure their husbands and children are happy by making sure that the waters, air and land are in good condition. It needs to have a proper sewage evacuation and treatment network in Delhi (in fact, in most areas of the Gangetic Plains if not India), which needs to have a proper urban management of built and lived areas of Delhi (here rise subsequently the slum issue, as well as the non-declared/non-surveyed industries issue). If water is the first object for truly mastering Delhi agglomeration, next matters will rise, as electricity, everyday wastes, etc. In fact, what is done by municipalities or regions in most developed countries... Development as it is done and presented currently in India (flyovers, metros, new posh neighbourhood with accompanying shopping malls and business centres) isn't truly "the" form of ultimate development. Too much development projects in India seem to be done according to a "Bhadralok" point of view. According to me, that's why we are in a situation where a big population of posh Gen'z middle-class and upper-class Westernised youngsters want to show off India as a "modern" country. When at the same time, and at the front of whole world's eyes, a vast section of Indian population is sometimes still living in medieval era like conditions (in fact, more like during the Industrial revolution in Europe) !

Devotees will have to look for other options as Chhath Puja cannot be stopped and the increasing pollution in the Yamuna river water is a matter of concern for people's health. They can form groups collect funds and organise Chhath Puja at temples. I know one such committee which collects money from devotees and organises Chhath Puja at Omkareshwar temple in Ramesh Nagar, they have been doing this for 27 years.

The solution I have suggested in my comment is related to the health of the devotees considering the pollution in the water of Yamuna river so that they can avoid health related problems. Did I said that the river does not matters, that it should not be cleaned? Don't just misinterpret anything you read. Lastly devotees are not the authorities to whom complaints about pollution should be made, so I suggested them to look for other options. And obviously these options are only available until the river is cleaned.
