2 Timothy says teaching is the emphasis not preaching, there are various ways to teach and esp shepherd through the word. Preaching is a type of teaching!

I get why it often gets prioritized. Romans 10:14 & 15 KJV states "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" However, while both are spiritual gifts integral to the pastoral calling, preaching and teaching are not the same thing. Preaching is a facet of teaching. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 ESV states "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." You must be well versed in teaching to preach and follow up on said preaching. Teaching is done through other corporate activities such as Sunday School, Bible Study, Small groups, etc which allow you to show, tell, and lead directly. Preaching on Sunday morning is important because it is where you catch people. Where people come to or come closer to Christ. But teaching is what grounds them, strengthens them, and guides them. It leads the way and that happens mostly outside of Sunday morning worship.

pastor is a spiritual gift, not a title, not authority but accountability. the authority is christ, and the word. pastors are shepherds called to guard the flock of God, and be examples. teacher is a separate gift. there are hopefully several men in the flock that have the gift of pastor/shepherd and never preach. better yet is a pastor/teacher. you can't shepherd God's flock if you aren't able to teach, meaning, rightly dividing the word, not a happy clappy story teller. authority: luke 22:25-27
