My girls milk, hay, hunt, can, cook, forage etc. They don’t do social media, so they are not going to find anyone that way, either. My oldest says she’s probably just going to become Amish.

It has been actually really tough, started with chicken broth, then cooking with beef tallow, over months I'm finally able to eat some meat without being sick!! Zac, it's not oooop-eees, it's O-pus. O as in Ohio and pus as in what comes out of a sore. And I think most people are just trying to get by day-to-day. As a 63-year old female with no family, I can't run a homestead by myself. I follow a whole food animal-based diet, about 90% carnivore, and have seen a remarkable improvement in my health, including 80 lbs. down. In the end times, which we are now in, folks, especially in the Torah Observant community, are going to have to come together instead of behaving like it's every man for himself. That is, IF they have a thought in their head about and want to see their elderly brothers and sisters survive. We have knowledge, skills, and abilities that we can contribute, and our generation typically exemplifies character traits such as honesty, integrity, and a willingness to work. And some of us have substantial physical preps as well.

I'm not in the big cities but I am in a town at the moment. When I am able to get chickens I will. Worst case scenario for me if things go bad quickly is there are usually deer. I also have a massive amount of salt since I make kimchi regularly before the last bit is done. I had one batch ferment so well that, after 8 hours, I burped it and it sounded like a soda can. There was this ghastly mist that rose and it sounded like rice Krispies, or that popping candy.

I also started my jar with the garlic, local honey, and Korean red pepper flakes yesterday and I can already tell it's starting to ferment. NGL I'm def an omnivore. I don't like grains much at all. Is there a health benefit to them that I can't get from other sources? I had one pear for breakfast and plan on using veggies for lunch. Dinner will be a goat meat stew. I also eat peanuts and a nut mix I make for when I'm at work. I just wasn't sure if I really NEEDED grains. Time to time I buy Dave's bread or use mung bean noodles but ever since I was DX as prediabetic refined sugars and grains don't interest me. I can even make Reese's mock candies that taste much better but usually the only sugars I get are from the fruits or foods themselves. I rarely cook with brown sugar, even, unless it's a particular meal or Asian dish that someone wants, like lo mein.

City folks are going to he in a world of hurt when this all hits the fan. I pray for the best but prep for the worst. The big thing that city folks lack are self-sustaining skills. So even if they run out and buy land, they do not know the first thing about setting themselves up for success. That is generally speaking. Look at the covid shut down in this country and how Ill prepared the majority of folks were. There was a lot of panic buying until local govts stepped in and were shuttling food from the markets for people. The people in this country are living in a vacuum and unfortunately will be the baned of existence for those who are prepared.

Smart to hold off on goats! They are a nightmare to contain - they'll actually play leap-frog to get over a 6' high wall! Pigs are really easy keepers, and sheep are a calmer, easier alternative to goats ;)

@AgnesMariaL Thank you. I am in the process of building a barn to house pigs on one side and sheep on the other. I have also been looking into the Highland Cows as well. They are adorable little guys and gals.
@AgnesMariaL23 күн бұрын
@joyceterra2265 Pigs actually don't require a barn (most animals don't, unless you need to lock up for predation reasons), and it's really not a great idea to keep them in one, due to their sheer strength and determination should they ever feel the need to get out. We rotate our pigs through the forest (we bought a woodlot), and they just choose a thicket or grove for their shelter. When we do have them in a more open area, we provide a simple shelter. Like I said, pigs are easy keepers! Two or three strands of hotwire is all you need, and as long as they have forage, feed when necessary, and water, they won't test the lines!
@joyceterra226523 күн бұрын
@AgnesMariaL We enclose them at night because of 1. We have mountain lions and 2. Due to extreme winter weather. We do open up for them to go out every morning. Of course since we moved, we do not have them right now but that routine we will get back into. The other thing is that our average snowfall is 7 ft. We have to be able to shut them into the barn to clean out the corral/pasture areas. They will have to be confined to certain areas as I will not run other animals in the areas that pigs have lived in. They deposit trichinosis into the soil and other animals will become infested. So I keep them sort of isolated. I have never had a problem with them breaking out but they are never fully blocked into a barn, they have free roam during the day. Thanks for the heads up though.

As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE sheep, we have struggled with them - there are just SO many things that can kill them, and even with all the hours of research I did prior to getting any, we have had many hard lessons! If you are looking for a quick and easy animal to raise, my recommendation would be to start with pigs :) Depending on what you have for land and how much land, you will likely have to supplement with commercial feed, but pigs average about 8 piglets per litter, two litters per year: keep one or to per litter to raise up for meat, then sell the rest to cover your costs :) Another really good livestock option that I truly wish I had ventured into twelve years ago already when I was still on my tiny, rented one acre, is rabbits! The cost input for them are very little to none (you can grow veg for them or put them in tractors to forage rather than buying hay and pellets), they are super-easy to process, and omg SO delicious!!!

If you can find something seller-financed, that is a good option. Another option would be to seek out a couple others also looking for land and co-purchase. Like, if you have only $10k and the best you can find for that cash outright is only 2 acres, but if 100 acres is $50k... well, with four other co-purchasers now you're getting 20 acres instead of just two!

Technically the phrase is not backwards, only the words in the phrase. If the phrase was backwards it would be milk raw or klim war. The second is the words and phrase are both backwards. 😁 I love war taog klim. We can get I from the pet stores here. I keep getting it for my cat, but end up drinking it all, lol. I have been eating meat based. More like "bear diet" carnivore plus some berries. You are correct. In times of chaos and famine, it would be a less sustainable lifestyle. I may at those times have to resort to eating starvation/prisoner food. I am grateful that when that day comes that I will have had as long as I have eating well, and building a much stronger and healthier body so that the famine period does not have as long to effect me negatively. As opposed to eating so poorly all my life up to the famine, and then survive on less. I can also get really good at fishing. However, one can sustain themselves rather cheaply now on a carnivore diet. You can buy ground beef instead of ribeyes. Ground beef, eggs, and sardines in water. It would cost way less than the standard American Diet, or the 1-2 lbs of every vegetable a day you would need to attempt to get enough bioavailable nutrients as a vegan only to have your brain shrink in 5 years anyways due to the lack of essential animal fats. There I also outside the box options, like becoming a butcher to be around, get paid for and trade skills for the meat or working on a ranch. But you're correct... logical conclusion.

I'm a mother of 7 on my own because of abandonment. We (my teenage sons and I) are building a tiny house and a homestead on some family land in southern Illinois. We planted 40 fruit trees last spring and I just got 65 chickens. I recently tried carnivore for two months and loved it, so now I'm thinking of getting some cows. I bought my off grid cookstove today. Things are coming along, as far as the usual sense of "sustainable" anyway. But, I'm struggling with coming to terms with America itself being any longer sustainable. I'm praying about taking my little brood and immigrating to Russia as that country appears to be turning to Christ and putting outright Christian values into their laws and constitution. Maybe it sounds crazy since we all were raised on all the Red Dawn propaganda, but actually a lot of homeschooling, large families are doing this and I cant get the thought out of my mind. So praying. I certainly don't feel much hope for America in the long run.

Russia also has programs for helping new immigrants, and even programs for free land (the Russia far east program). Spotted lanternfly is now present in Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia. Its threat continues to reach further west and grow more intensely in existing areas.

My wife and I eat vegan at the house. Not because we believe in the power of being vegan, but because we believe in the power of not doubling our grocery bill for a few pounds of meat. By vegan I don't mean we buy that processed "plant based protein" crap. Actual vegetables. I have more confidence in sourcing unmolested vegetables than I do meat in terms of not depositing my wallet in the incinerator. Also, I'm hearing that people are finding chicken at walmart that have bruises on them, for example. Maybe I'm overreacting, but a bruise is essentially damaged blood vessels. Life is in the blood, etc. Until my wife and I get our homestead property and chickens and quail like my grandfather did, I'd prefer not eat crap quality meat until then. However I'll drop some dollars for some good quality meat once in awhile.

The bruises come from the way they were raised and processed, it's a shame :( When I started learning about where our food comes from and how it's grown/raised, I made it my mission to become a homesteader! It took me over a decade, but doing it now! FYI, if you go carnivore, you only need to eat once a day/every two days. It's actually WAY cheaper than vegan just based on that! A tin of sardines - a perfect whole food - costs what, $1.50? Yet as a hard-working 150# homesteader, a tin of sardines is sufficient for my daily meal! Or, four eggs cooked in butter or lard with shredded cheese; or, a third of a 750 ml jar of canned pork... Carnivore is WAY cheaper than vegan! Especially when you consider that cheap crap like bologna are actually HEALTHY BECAUSE it contains connective tissues and organ meats! And the nitrites? Pfft - we've been lied to on that front! What is vital for optimal blood circulation? 🤔 Could it be nitric oxide? 🤔🤔 how do we make that, without consuming nitrites??? 🤔🤔🤔

@@AgnesMariaL I was reading a book about how much meat you really need and it also mentioned that you do not need to eat meat nearly as much as the american food pyramid says you do. More like, 4-16 ounces a week. I also remember reading somewhere that B12 depletes very slowly, so the amount of meat to sustain it is not a bank busting amount. I have nothing against meat - I still eat it. I just got done with chicken tortilla soup just before responding to this actually. I'm just backing off until I have a better education on choosing higher quality meats. When my grandfather had his farm, I'd help out growing up and it spoke to my soul. I loved it. I was the only grandkid that did out of the whole bunch. A shame, that. Those quails and chickens lived their best lives and were quite happy I'd say. Makes a difference in the quality of meat for sure.

@@matt8578 My dad - who went full carnivore after having a triple-bypass at age 83 - sent me a video the other day. The doctor interviewed in the video repeatedly stated that the ONLY organisms that can break down plants are bacteria! And when you look at the herbivores, they ALL have feementation chambers, whether it's the multiple stomachs in ruminants, or the hind gut in the monogastric herbivores (which need to eat some of their poop in order to keep that gut seeded). The ONLY way we can extract nutrients from plants is if we first ferment them, such as making sauerkraut or sourdough bread - otherwise, we are simply sending useless material through our digestive tract that only irritates our gut while poisoning us with various toxins (lectins, saponins, phytates, etc). When you look at our physiology, right down to the tiny stomachs we have and the acidity of our stomachs, humans ARE carnivores, and we are wasting energy while creating health issues (such as IBS and diabetes) when we attempt to use plants as a food source.

So many lifestyles aren’t sustainable. Having my own land is my goal. It seems out of reach as a single mom so we shall see.
@AgnesMariaL24 күн бұрын
Not out of reach, but certainly more challenging :) Building a homestead from scratch is A LOT of work, so you absolutely will need to get your kids involved - either that, or find a good partner :) Best of luck to you!

Back in 2021 they were experimenting with getting it into lettuce. Now we have birdy and piggy sniffles, and they have the technology ready for at least the piggy sniffles for all the cafo pork, but of course we won't know if and when they are actually using it, and I suspect that they have been already, based on the record speed of "operation warp speed".
