Successful? Programming has helped me not f**k up my life. Mainly the concept of modular programming and planning for the worst case scenario has helped.

I never use the word 'derivative' as a programmer. Just curious. Is it a mathematical problem? The problems I face are far more vague. While programming, many more questions arise to ask colleague's or the customer. Always deferring from the original design. Nice video! Also, what encourages growth? Clean code and effective programming * and -most important- having fun doing it! * keep code readability to the max (fewer comments needed) * refactor your code from time-to-time as you learn to spot dirty/hacky/tricky code * do not try to outsmart everyone else (beginners mistakes: seen it a lot, important single char variables, pile of wrongly used language features, overdoing some design pattern they learned/discovered)
